  • This is the first video in a series I will be making about how to use your audio interface and DAW to create Captures on the Quad Cortex. This video is meant to help people get into making Captures with an standardized template that clears up a lot of confusion and allows you to spend time making an awesome tone with no messing around.
    Enjoy making excellent Captures!
    You can download the Ableton Live set here:
    drive.google.com/file/d/1ZxUS...
    "JZ gain test 1" Quad Cortex preset:
    neuraldsp.com/cloud/p/3cab63ac-9d06-4868-b745-5000c27cfad4
    "JZ Go2" Capture:
    neuraldsp.com/cloud/p/95864dea-819a-42bd-95a2-14c9abe2a310
    To get the IR that I used in the video, download the demo for the Will Putney JST amp sim and you will get a couple folders of some pretty good IRs. The one you are looking for is called "05 Ascendants IR" and it will be located in Documents\STL\Tonality\Will Putney\IRs\3 Album Guitar Tones IRs

    This might sound silly, but should i use stereo cable or a normal instrument cable for going from the out of the second interface into the input of the quad? Should it all be stereo trs cables?

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  Год назад

      I think either would work just fine. I know what you mean about a "stereo cable" (its actually called a "balanced" cable). The output of your audio interface is balanced and so is the input of the Quad Cortex, so it should be fine. But honestly, an "unbalnced" (mono TS 1/4" cable) should also work the exact same.
      Also, sorry I missed this comment for a month!

    Great Video and explanation, I only have a IRig Pro Duo with 2 inputs and 2 outputs can i still capture my plugins with this the Universal Audio Apollo x4 is abit costly for my needs.
    Would the routing be any differant.
    Thanks

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  Год назад +1

      You can definitely do this with 2 ins and 2 outs. You would have to choose which part of the signal chain you want to exclude. If your IRig has an independent headphone output that can listen to the "master output" while your 2 "regular" outputs can send totally different, independent signals, then you can actually pull all of this off. Im not sure how the iRig works, though. You might not be able to differentiate between headphone outs and the "main" outs.
      You def dont need an Apollo for this to work. Just follow the same signal path that Im doing and get as far along as you can. If you have to remove one thing from the signal path, I would eliminate the first part: the guitar DI loops. Instead, just play your guitar manually while you mess around with the sounds inside your DAW. If that doesnt suit you, you can skip the last stage, where the IR sits, and just do your captures with the IR baked into them or simply disable the IR right before you hit the "create capture" button. Its going to be a little different than how I have it set up in the video but that should give you what you need.

      @@jasonzdora yeh the IRIg duo has two guitar instrumental 1/4' inputs , 2x balanced 1/4" outs and a headphone output which I guess is just a master output .

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  Год назад

      @@mbadge2477 What I mean is, can you differentiate between the headphone output and the pair of balanced outputs? Where you send one signal to the headphones and a different signal to the pair of 1/4" balanced outputs.

    • @mbadge2477
      @mbadge2477 Год назад

      @@jasonzdora I'm not sure I can do that with the IRig duo I think the headphone output is just same as the two 1/4" outputs

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  Год назад

      @@mbadge2477 In that case, your best bet will be the following:
      Guitar > QC Return 1 > QC Send 1(or Capture Out) > iRig Input 1 > DAW (this is where you make your FX chain that you want to capture) > iRig Output 1 > QC Input 1 > QC Output 1 > iRig Input 2 > DAW (this is where you add the IR for your personal monitoring) > iRig Output 2
      With this, you will only be able to listen to output 2 of the iRig in order to hear your signal chain. So that would be the only output from the iRig that is connected to the speakers in your room.
      Let me know if this makes sense.

      @@jasonzdora damn, i thought last night I’ve been replying this, lol, I’ve got Apogee Duet, too bad, it doesn’t have input 3, that’s why im confuse, its the input 3 that I can’t follow, forgive my confuse sir 🥳🥳🥳🥳

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  2 года назад +1

      @@fikardam No worries, brother! IF you are only dealing with 2 inputs you can still do this! Just need to do it in 2 steps.
      Step 1 - record some guitar DI loops. This is done before ever touching the Quad Cortex. Just get a couple good guitar loops going and when you are done with that, you can put the guitar away. Meaning, you no longer need that input1 for your guitar. Just use the loops that are in your DAW instead.
      Step 2 - Set up the QC and your Duet. I assume you have one of the "breakout" devices for your Duet but Im not sure. Either way, you will need to figure out where you want to listen to the end results (the end of the signal chain). It looks like the Duet has independent headphones outputs and "main" outputs. You will need the "main" outputs to connect to the QC and you will likely need to listen to the end results (the output of your DAW) on headphones. Im not sure if thats possible, though, because I dont own a Duet.
      So the signal chain will remain the exact same as it is on my video. You just need to figure out how to route your inputs and outputs so they go in a correct signal path (just like the signal path I show in my video).
      Loops in DAW > Duet Output1 > QC Return1 > QC Send1 (QC sends the Capture signal here) > Duet Input1 > DAW (make your cool guitar sound here) > Duet Output2 > QC Input1 (QC does the capturing computations here) > QC Output1 > Duet Input2 > DAW (put your IR here) > Duet Headphones out (so you can hear the end results.
      I hope this makes sense! Again, Im not sure if the Duet has independent headphones and "main" outputs or not. If it does, this will work :)

    • @jasonzdora
      @jasonzdora  2 года назад +1

      @@fikardam If the Duet does not have independent headphone outputs and main outputs, you can do this another way. This will exclude the guitar DI loops and will require you to simply plug your guitar into Return1 of the QC. You will have to play guitar and mess with the plugins at the same time. This is fine but it requires a bit more fuss and concentration on three things at once (play guitar, adjust plugins, adjust Quad Cortex).
      For this setup, I would do the following signal path:
      Guitar > QC Return1 > QC Send1 (this sends the Capture algorithm sounds) > Duet Input1 > DAW (make cool guitar tone here) > Duet Output1 > QC Input1 (this listens to the finalized Capture sounds and makes the Capture) > QC Output 1 > Duet Input2 > DAW (this is where you put your Impulse Response) > Duet Output2 (you can hook this up to one of your speakers/monitors and listen to the results. It will be mono but it will work!
