    It today's video I'm talking about a small change that you can make in how you approach Etsy which might sound counter intuitive at first, but actually helps you work in tandem with the algorithm.

    Wow an Etsy video that actually addresses handmade sellers. Every video I watch is talking about POD. Thank you. I’m new to etsy and always looking for tips I can use.

      This was exactly the reason I leant so hard into the handmade business side of things.
      No disrespect to POD RUclipsrs, but us handmade sellers need something to watch too! 😁

    I feel like the algorithm is going to be the downfall of Etsy. If you go there to find actual handmade items and all you can find is POD items then…why would you shop there?? It’s very frustrating as a seller!

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  5 месяцев назад +4

      I do wonder if they're going to bring in higher fees or something like monthly payouts to try and stem the influx of people flooding the platform with generic rubbish.
      It would also help if they just introduced a separate category for print on demand products too, I wish they would just do that. It wouldn't magically fix the problem, but it would certainly help a huge amount.

      @KimBliss I wish they would be able to reduce the insane amount of dropshipping that is ruining etsy. Handmade items cannot compete with dropshipping and white label companies. It gets disheartening to say the least

    • @kaistockman6443
      @kaistockman6443 5 месяцев назад

      I hope they don’t do monthly payouts but if they continue to take the shipping out of your balance then it would be OK for me. I sell in one shop with supplies and sometimes people will order one item and the shipping costs more than the item.

    This channel is refreshing… i got so tired of big influencers literally saying strategy every other word. It was exhausting lol. I’ve always used inspiration but end up doing my own thing. I’ve learned a lot from everyone but in the end, I gotta do what has my personality behind it, not someone else’s. Things change too so I believe when your business plans change, you gotta go with it. I tried so hard to sell apparel but recently started to see my passion in making dyes possibly for other makers. As crafters, I believe most of us have a lot of different things we enjoy!

    Excellent video. I have seen grown Etsy sellers on a Facebook group literally crying and asking hats wrong with my SEO. How can I improve my SEO. Why aren't people seeing my page. Why aren't people buying, etc.
    I'm a bit sick of SEO now, to be honest.
    On a lighter note, I've done it. I've got my own website, and it's live as of today.
    I have a feeling that Etsy is going to introduce a monthly payment system for sellers soon. I hope I'm wrong, but watch this space as they say.
    Claire

      I've never understood the whole thought process behind changing your SEO equating to more sales. The only way that would work was if it was rubbish to begin with, but if their products are getting seen then their SEO is working! 🤷‍♀️
      And I really hope Etsy don't do that. I think that would be pushing sellers past their pain thresholds.
      I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did something like increased the fees or introduced monthly payouts or something like that. They've been very quiet lately so we're overdue some tomfoolery! 😄

    Thank you. I write my titles as if I was searching for 'it' myself and think about who and how it would be used.
    I'm a batch lister. I would be losing the will to live going on to Etsy everyday.

    I started a mug and coaster shop in January, where I print everything myself. It takes me several weeks to get a set of image ready to be uploaded. I can’t imagine the fees associated with uploading a ton of products. That seems like it might be a recipe for disaster.

    • @KimBliss

      I know, it's definitely not a sustainable way to run a business. And I suspect Etsy will be trying to curb this with a fee increase or something similar soon. We'll see though. They've been very quiet of late, which is always a concern. They're like toddlers. The moment there's peace and quiet, it's time to worry. 😄

    I needed this today. I have been selling on Etsy since 2011. Since 2017 in my current shop and this last year it has really taken a downturn unfortunatly and I have found myself online again looking for ways to improve and I am so tired of seeing people to tell others to just do POD and copy what they see others doing. I always hated that advice. I am still updating a bit. Taking some new pictures here and there and adding videos, and tweaking but I am just going to keep being myself because in the long run, I may not be pulling in life changing money, but I am still here and still selling after all these years. It is a rough time for everyone and I just have to keep pushing and believe things will turn back around for me. Selling always has its ups and downs. My upswing will be back.

      I love this comment and your attitude is spot on. There are peaks and troughs in running a business and this has been one heck of a trough. I do believe we're over the worst though so if we can hold on just a little longer, we'll feel the wind in our sails again soon. 💚

    Verrry good advice, Kim. But let me put a little twist on it.
    As far as driving external traffic, for me, I'm afraid of too many orders. Handmade takes time. I have a full time job so there a limits on my time. The Black Friday weekend was huge for me, but it also showed me how too much can be a challenge. So, while I agree that getting traffic to your store is important, external traffic may need to be tempered by how well one is doing organically. Good advice, but maybe not for everyone.
    You say don't copy your competition. When it comes to your products, that is very true. However, learning what your competition is doing behind the scenes can be a good thing. If you're struggling to find the right tags, taking a peek at your successful competition's use of tags may give you a tag you should use or inspiration of some tags you should try. You can take a general look at all of your competition's photographs and find common features that they use. It's not copying if it's a tried and true method. You certainly don't want to look like the other shops with your products or your style and what not, but there are things you can learn from your competition that you would be remiss if you ignored.
    I love your chats and your ideas and logic and your delivery. You are one of a small handful of handmade/Etsy advisors that I watch on U2'b.

    Hi Kim, love your channel and great advice! I do wish etsy could figure out a way to separate the handmade from the pod..lol it was a mistake to allow pod on etsy in my opinion...but what do I know..lol I did the pod and dumped it, I just didn't feel like it was right to do on etsy. I'm going back to handmade with photography cards very soon!

    • @KimBliss
      @KimBliss  5 месяцев назад +2

      I'm so with you here and it would be so bloody easy for them to do too. A separate category for POD, just as we have separate categories for supplies and vintage. Boom. Sorted.
      I was emailed a while back to take part in a survey and they requested feedback so I suggested this to them then.
      I'm guessing there must be a reason for them not doing it and I'm willing to be it's money. 😊

    I follow you on my other channel (I have made this one to show my handmade sewing stuff and things - I'm just getting started). I just had to post here. I was watching A Cake to Remember LLC and she mentioned Goimagine platform for handmade sellers. I remember you saying you couldn't find a handmade mug. Goimagine has multiple ones (especially by one seller in particular) and I thought of you. They are awesome/pricey but awesome!!
