How did your, I don't know what they are called, electric draw meters compare to your usual? Does it take more to get it through the wood? I looked a the wood-mizer carbides and the price was 3 to 4 times a regular blade.
This is a great question and one I forgot to address in the video. Usually I Mill at 1.1 to 1.7 amps at 23%, the rated speed. At 1.7 I'm looking to usually sharpen the blade. I'm now cutting at 1.1 to 1.7 at 28 to 30%. I'm definitely Milling much faster. I'm also on my fourth big log and it still feels razor sharp. I did have a little accident with it LOL. Have a great day and thanks for this question.
Good morning Jerry, my fingers were twitching when you were opening those blades. Those boards looked like they were planed. I’ll keep them on my radar for sure Have great week buddy
Looked like it was cutting faster than before. The chips looked denser , it’s got to clean out the kerf better. Finish looked great too. I went right to the 1 1/2 inch .055 10° blades , 14 hp kohler .( never tried the blade it came with.) Seems good in hard maple. Moved it to the white pine lot now , 🤞 Really interested in how long your new blades stay sharp. Thanks Jerry
Good morning Terry. I've milled 4 big logs with it and it's still very sharp. I'm milling much faster as well. I usually cut at 1.1 to 1.7 amps at 23 to 24 percent (speed). Now I'm milling 1.1 to 1.7 at 28 to 30 (speed). Still really not bogging down the motor. Probably could even go faster but I don't want to break anything yet lol. Have a great one Terry.
Good morning Jerry. I paid $335 for 10 of the 1 1/2 blades delivered . What was the cost of those stellite blades ? You’ll be able to sharpen the new blades ? May be switching blades in the future. Thanks
Terry, I have a cbn wheel so I'm sure I can sharpen it. Something I failed to mention as these are 10°also and not offered in 7. They cut pretty dang fast. I paid just both of 200 for 5. Since I bought them at the show they gave me a break. Not sure what the break was though. I never looked them up on their website. I have cut 4 good size logs and they still feel razor sharp. I blew a bearing last week and the blade fell off. Fortunately it didn't break or bend or kink. It did knock off a couple of teeth (about 6). I finally got the flywheel bearings replaced and tried cutting with this blade that fell off and I have a couple of teeth out of set however it cut extremely fast still. I went through yesterday and fixed the teeth. I have not tried cutting with it since I fixed the teeth.
I told you they seemed to be the dogs doo dahs, as you know unfortunately mine broke and im very gutted about that but i had a bad blade where some teeth were out of set but it cut great. Glad your liking them and that finish is excellent. I wonder how they will fair up on softwood too. Nice video with the explanation, too 👍
That so unfortunate that blade broke. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back to my rippers. I do have a bunch of them left that are 10°. I know I'll be using these for a while. Thanks for the continued support my friend.
@@BigelowWoodcraft i wont go to another blade now i dont think. Even them being 1.25 wide and they still hold very well in the wood, almost laser beam accurate. I did have some daft dippy cuts but otherwise it was a great blade. Very disappointed when it broke thats for sure. Youll use them at some point, i always find a use for them thats the truth.
Gm Jerry, looks like you found the right blades finely !! Is the blade holding up better then the ripper blade, I might have check them out though Norwood. hopefully, they have 176in blades .
I read through the comments and second the question of if you can sharpen them using a standard wheel that comes with the sharpener. Maybe you just skip the stellite tooth. Easy enough to do if that is all you need to do. Thanks for the review and test drive. I see you are still climbing on the mill to raise the tarp without a safety harness. Bad boy!!! I only do that when I gas up. I figure I can maybe use the plastic gas can to cushion the fall as the gas spills all over me and the mill and a static spark from my clothes ignites the whole mess. It might not smell like venison BBQ but I bet it will be a hot time at the mill.🔥
You kill it every time with your comments. Thanks for the laughs. My sharpener has a cbn wheel so I think I'll be able to sharpen even the stellites. I've not tried to sharpen it yet since it's still cutting beautifully. Have a great day Jim. PS I'll hook in next time before I climb up.
Put an 8 foot long 20" ave. dia. on my OS27 the other day. Oh boy, heavy! My tractor loader is only rated to 900 pounds! ;) I have two more from above and below that one on the tree yet to bring out from the woods. Commenting before seeing your review, so I'm quite interested in the results :)
Those heavy logs are such a bear to work with. I occasionally have to parbuckle those up. Everything about him is difficult. As for the blades I'm a big big fan of these now. It'll be interesting to see how they hold up.
Maybe just maybe the affordable carbide tips have finally made their way into the bandsaw blade world!! You should be able to resharpen them with your CBN wheel, even with just a light touchup, and never even have to touch the other two teeth, because now they are really only there for clean-up. Hopefully the welds and the rest of the blade holds up long enough to make the carbide tips efficient.
@@timscartoys9321 that's right. I've not tried to sharpen it but it seems to be holding up well. I did have an accident but the blade didn't break lol. Stay tuned. I'm very pleased. As for sharpening I'm sure I can with the cbn wheel. Thanks Tim for the comment. Have a great one.

Hey Jerry , glad you have found a blade that might hold up for you . 👍🏻🇺🇸
@@inthebackyardwithdel438 Del, it's still running strong. I'm very pleased. Thanks for watching my friend.
Hello Jerry. That is awesome that those blades are going to work out better for you. Sounds like they are well worth the extra money. Take care.👊🏻
@@toddsoutsideagain thank you Todd. It's holding up great. Ill report any negatives I come across. Nothing yet. Have a good day my friend.
seen other videos about those blades .looks impressive

Those boards turned out fantastic and I'm not sure if I'm ever going to go back to the old blades. Thanks Mike you have a great day my friend.

@ awesome… thanks. Appreciate
that blade makes total sense to me the old crosscut saws been made like that for over 100 yrs
I totally agree Glenn. I'm interested to see if I can sharpen these. I'm not gone through one completely that needs sharpening. Have a great day.
I am very interested in the blades. I am getting down to where I need to order some keep us informed. Looked like they cut smoother also.
This blade is doing well other than my mess up. That's coming in another video. I've cut more than 500 bdf now and it's still sharp.
