London's Garden Bridge didn't fail due to apathy but because it was in the wrong location. They wanted to built it next to the South Bank (an already busy location that does not need further public investment or things to attract tourists). It should have been located further east to encourage redevelopment around Shadwell/Limehouse, and provide an actual useful function as a bridge.
Exciting pictures of New York which used to have the by far largest port in the world decades ago. Yet it is still an impressive big city with spectacular views in various directions, for instance at 1:29.
Not that crazy - we have the SkyGarden here in London for example that is free entry to a skyscaper's indoor landscape garden/public space. You got to book in advance, but it's easy and free - beats having to queue forever!
Well there are multiple factors to consider. The first is that reservations are only required for afternoon visiting, and once you're in you can stay until it closes. The second is that the morning visiting hours do not require reservations but park entry is monitored to mitigate overcrowding. IMO, it's a superior approach to mitigate excessive crowding. There will always be a cost-benefit analysis, and carefully tracking the crowd in a space with limited capacity is not new. The primary ways of distributing scarcity are (A) rationing and (B) pricing, and if it were done via Option B then you'd have far more complaints than there already were since the cost would easily be stratospheric -- the rich local clientele can afford what the poor can't -- and using a pricing model would exclude lower socioeconomic percentiles. So to your point, yes it's unconventional to book a reservation at a park, but this is vastly more ideal than pricing out >90% of potential visitors to achieve the same result. Here's more if you're curious: littleisland.org/timed-entry-reservations
It feels like a tourist trap and it's not even a useful as a park. I don't think people really know how small it is. What park activities can be done besides walking. Great video about this park. Little Island is amazing. Lets see this investment in other boroughs. We must restore funding to parks and go further by spending 1 percent on the city budget on parks at least.
It looks cool and it's an engineering marvel but it's rather pointless to me. One small exclusive park in that area is hardly a benefit for the whole city. Not offsetting these kinds of projects with others in the city is weak when considering the bigger picture (of green space development).
@@johnsamuel1999 Maybe worth noting that it will cost a lot more than that when the private maintenance grant runs out. Unless more private finance jumps in or it's just left to decay.
Sorry, but there's no other way to put it: your objection is very poorly thought out. First of all, it's not "exclusive", it's open to the public. Secondly, one small park in *any* area of the city is "hardly a benefit for the whole city", as is "one small" civic improvement _anywhere_ in the city. So...no civic improvements in any borough, according to you? And "bigger picture"? How meaninglessly vague. Bigger picture of _what?_ Seriously, what is your *_real_* objection?
@@AlbertaGeek In my opinion any park requiring a signup is exclusive. Your opinion may be different and that is fine. As for the bigger picture, I am alluding to the development of green spaces in cities. This small and expensive park project doesn't contribute much to that. Hope that clears it up.

Wow! I've never heard of this until now but it looks SO COOL! I can't wait to visit it someday!
There wasn’t one video shot from the “Little Island” itself at all. The whole thing was drone footage. Was hoping to see it closer than that.

Maybe because the videographers can't get a reservation into the park? (The entire concept that you need a reservation for a public park is asinine.)
This is why this channel stands out, B1M gets to the source. Thanks for this. Awesome as always.
To be honest, most of the funding went to lawyers pockets due to legal battles, the actual cost may not even exceed 50million dollars
source?
Either if it's true or not, can you imagine being a lawyer stashing up even a small cut from that big juicy lawyer funds? I mean 2 of those cases and you may just end up moving out of lexington without making a 50 year payback loan

I believe that it was just a glib opinion. You should Google it yourself if you would like to verify it’s veracity.
Very interesting project in NY. Like to visit there once it's completed.
It's a lovely looking park to be sure, but I can't help think 360 Million could have been spent so much more wisely on humanity
From a private donation, not taxpayers money.
Why don’t you become a billionaire and spent 360 million dollars on “humanity”
Spending money on humanity is easy said, giving money to warlords is often the result.
I was thinking about a website like edx, open courseware, etc... and how they are able to provide free education. people should invest in free education to a common source and should bring it to school and college level.
@@jaybariya9 well the city and the state also gave a couple million so that's public money
Great video as always. Keep up the superb work everyone!
I love B1M! 💘
The B1M is the my favourite you tube channel
Okay, so remind me when and if I go to NYC to visit Little Island and get my $10 Avo toast ;)
What? Did you even read what you posted.....try and make sense next time.
Same goal, emerging from lockdown with a loong wishlist!

Don't go, the city has turned into a cesspool of crime, addicts, and general dirtbags. Sane people no longer go there. Two terms from DiBlasio is all it took.

Thanks! 🙌
It looks like a simple little park, but ap-pier-ances can be deceiving.

Amazing aerial shots, as a long time NYC resident I’m so glad it got built.
I think it's beautiful and I may never see it, but I'm glad it exists. Something that reinvigorates, inspires and nurtures the human heart, soul and spirit is invaluable.
Only New York City calls a 70% paved and 10% trimmed turf grass park "beautiful, oasis, jewel" xD
Yes it looks more like a parking lot than anything else
Had the same thought, 😂
Your ratio is off my guy. Also have you even been on the thing? There are so many different trees, grasses, perennials, and flowers. It’s also much larger and steeper than the areal shots make it seem.
It is not that bad... You guys are just being cynical, it is on the water, it has great view of Downtown and New Jersey. It's not Central Park or Stanley Park... Probably a nice place to drop by, and infinitely better than what it was before.
@@ian1856 Glad you did too. Bye.
Great video, nice hearing from other experts and viewpoints!
I actually love it. Nice to see something other than skyscrapers in N.Y
Little Island with little use and even cater to lesser crowd
but a BIG tax relief of 20 years for billionaire couple
cry some more. about money that's not yours.
well, it brings some tax money/tourism in, as everything, and private funded i guess it's a net gain some day.
Exciting pictures of New York which used to have the by far largest port in the world decades ago. Yet it is still an impressive big city with spectacular views in various directions, for instance at 1:29.

I have to give this video a like because Fred Mills is in the video!.!. LOL!.!.

A lot of that money went into the foundation I think. Not cheap to drive so many piles into the riverbed.

Such a beautiful piece of architecture
i love how it was built. i’d love to see these types of islands with different layouts in the future

Imagine booking a place in a park...
You book a place to disneyland and whatnot 🤷🏾♂️
Not that crazy - we have the SkyGarden here in London for example that is free entry to a skyscaper's indoor landscape garden/public space. You got to book in advance, but it's easy and free - beats having to queue forever!
Overcrowded would create a problems. It's a park not a festival
@@TheAcousticCitizen You don't make reservations when you go to disneyland....
Definitely a wonderful addition to already charming NYC, would love to go there someday :)
mixed feelings about this park. it feels disconnected from the city and from the river (i guess that was the intention?). and that price tag! geez
At least it was mostly private funding and it’s free to access (if you are willing to wait for tickets)
It's fantastic, that's how u add to a legend of a city.
It feels like a tourist trap and it's not even a useful as a park. I don't think people really know how small it is. What park activities can be done besides walking. This project is a case study for form over function....just glad it was most privately funded but most New Yorker don't see the point of it. Kind of like the other project he did in Hudson yards.
@@SofaSpy i mean from few shots in the video you get a pretty idea how big or small it actually is and yes it's tiny, a shame they didn't make it atleast 15-20% larger.
It’s quite a nice little park, a great place to go right after Chelsea market or the nearby strip of the high line. You definitely feel its size when it’s crowded, although when I went, they had great crowd flow set up
It looks amazing! But 250 mio? That's a steep pricetag. Especially considering its somewhat limited practical value to the city
Am also ahead with knowledge with BIM
I don't know if you're the one that did the editing on this video but it's fantastic. The beginning, a provocative opening indeed. outstanding. I have enjoyed your videos for quite a while so I'm noticing the significant increase in production values.

$10 for Avo toast is so good compared to Australia where I spend $18 for Avo toast lol #richxo
yea we get cheap avocados from mexico and california
Only $18 mate? I wish. You need to up your game and order a few more extra sides of bacon. :-)
Yeah it felt weird when I didn't think that was so bad lol
Then none of you has ever been to one of those fancy-healthy-select-brunch places in Amsterdam or Zurich or Stockholm!… It's like 12-18 EUROS for avo toasts (with fancy eggs and salmon or bacon, sure, it's real chef prep, not a snack. Still).
「That's $14~22 USD!」
idiotic spending. make it at home. you are defrauding yourself
I've been to the island. Its very cool I definitely recommend it. *and free*
It sure looks nice but that money could have gone to more green space in the city than that tiny island imho.
no all that money should have been given to me >:(
@@PeaceIsKept No, me .
Great video about this park. Little Island is amazing. Lets see this investment in other boroughs. We must restore funding to parks and go further by spending 1 percent on the city budget on parks at least.
10 dollar avocado toast would be a bargain here in Dublin
I go pick one off my tree and toast my own brioche. Cost .50 cents
Because you can’t grow avocados in Ireland ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This video was one of your best yet. So exciting to see you push the limits on what this channel can do! Your consistency is unsurpassed.
It looks cool and it's an engineering marvel but it's rather pointless to me. One small exclusive park in that area is hardly a benefit for the whole city. Not offsetting these kinds of projects with others in the city is weak when considering the bigger picture (of green space development).
It's a good destination gor both tourists and locals . Also it cost the city and state only 20-25 million , which is cheap as hell for new York city
@@johnsamuel1999 Agree, the low cost for the city is a benefit and probably the only reason it did get realised
