Not so correct . Fulani and Hausa are two distinct groups . In Nigeria they do intermarry because they are both predominantly Muslim and live in close proximity in the cities of northern nigeria . However , there are Fulani in other parts of Africa and even in nigeria , those in the rural areas and villages do not intermarry. They are not Hausa-Fulani . They are Hausa and Fulani just as you have Yoruba , Igbo , Hausa , Kanuri , Nupe etc all distinct groups
Thank you for sharing
You lost historical data my friend Hausa and fulani has intermarriage for almost 2000years so not only in Nigeria but in all sahel region......we only understand ourselves!
@@zaharsani it's lie, the Fulani and Hausa intermarriage and alliance started in 1804 when Fulanis migrated from Senegal and Mali and it's only in Nigeria not African saheliand, and never pass 220years, stop spreading rumors
What a non hausa has a say on this matter? We know ourselves pre colonial era, hausa land is the most diverse society in west Africa, not only fulani other tribes like taureg barbar from both Niger and Chad are mixed with hausa we hausa are far bigger than colonial construct Nigeria.
@@Hausa-Fulani Even in northern Nigeria . Fulani villages and Hausa villages are very distinct . Fulani are nomads and they have small villages and they speak fulfulde also know as Fulani or Fula . While Hausa villages are different with a different culture and they speak Hausa language very different from Fulani. They only intermarry in the cities due to religious affiliations . The difference between Hausa and Fulani is as light and day . All this information is clear in the real world and on the internet
Great summary
Thank you 🙏🏿 glad you liked it
Babban riga means "a big shirt/gown"
Baban riga might mean what you mentioned.
Hakane ma sha Allah ❤
The Hausa were also merchants and slavers. They were and still are the dominant tribe within Africa. Yet the Hausa woman are some of the most beautiful women in Africa next to the Yoruba tribe women. Fulani tribe is a tribe that’s pretty much merged into the Hausa tribe. The only way to tell if someone is Fulani is their face tattoos.
A fascinating culture
@@infographicsafrica the Fulani tribe especially. I think if modern day Fulani tribe women as pretty much of your African equivalent of black biker chicks. Lol! Overall, I hear that there are. I pure Fulani left and many of the Fulani have interbreed with the Hausa.
Hausa and Fulani are not merged , they are distinct groups of people . In northern nigeria they do intermarry because they live in close proximity and are both predominantly Muslim however the cultures are different . You might think they have merged when looking from the outside and because politically, the nigerian media would mention it as Hausa-Fulani , however , this is far from true, you will clearly see this if you lived in the north parts of Nigeria , just as Hausa , Igbo , Yoruba are different tribes , Hausa and Fulani are distinct , its only in the cities you might find them living together and intermarrying but this does not make them merged . Culturally , they have different traditions , different villages , speak different languages , they even have tribal conflicts in the rural areas up till this day
@@victorylapp Thank you Victory for this correction. In some hausa area, it was a tabou to marry a fulani for sure as for many tribes in the past. Parents told bad stories beside engaging in this intermarriage..
You're not right broh!
@ 2:14 You best describe it! Hausa is the incoporation and integration of many ethnic groups. Hausas in the northwest are more Fulani influenced, those of northeast are more Kanuris while those around Kano are regarded as "true" Hausas.
So someone saying he/she is a Hausa-Fulani just means that he is a Hausa speaker with Fulani roots, although he neither tend to cattle nor speak the Fulfulde language.
A culture full of nuances and rich in diversity, glad that you shared this point 🙏🏿 thx for watching
Hausa people exist before the advant of Kanuri, and later in the 15 th century, the advant of fulani pastoralists.
Hausa exist also in Niger Republic area before the Usman Jihad (Damagaram Sultante, Arewa Kingdom, Ader Kingdoms, Kurfey etc.). In Niger the Population of Hausa is 16 millions 56 % of the population and are not mixed with fulani except a very small number.
The true original hausas are in the region of Arewa Dogondoutchi, Gobir, Kurfey, AZNAs of Ader, Maradi, Damagaram and in the mountains of Ayar in Niger Republic. Original Hausas exist also in all the other ancient hausa cities :Daura, Katsina, Rano, Kano, Kabi, Zamfara etc. Above all in the rural area.
I disagree, northwestern are pure Hausas while northeastern Nigeria are amalgamations of kanuri and Fulani where spokes Hausa as there second language
@@nazifiharunajibrin5890I didnt say there aren't pure Hausas, rather their is heavy Fulani influence in the Northwest.
Hausa people are more linked to Kanuri and berbers (tuaregs) than fulani.
Before, it was a disgrace to marry a fulani within hausa custums.
Some to discourage this would told their community that you will become poor even though you are a rich....
What's the difference between hausa and Islam?
Hausa are a group of people Islam is a religion
@@infographicsafrica so hausa is a clan not a region?
@@kobbyflirck6397 Hausa is an ethnic group. Like Arabs, Turks, English, Persian, Irish etc. They have their own language, identity, customs etc. Islam is a religion that most Hausa believe in. My mum is Hausa but not Muslim. She's a baptist Christian.
@@kobbyflirck6397 Hausa people live in many countries but Nigeria is where most Hausa are
@@kobbyflirck6397yeah hausa is tribe of people while Islam ☪️ is a religion 😊
