I think Churchill’s decision to abandon the Channel Islands in 1940, and to bypass the islands during D-Day, are questionable- every inch of British territory should have been protected, rather than leaving its citizens to the horrible Nazis. Many thousands who were not born on the islands were deported to prisons in Germany and if anyone was a Jew, it was straight to the concentration camps. And thousands of Soviet soldiers who were POWs to the Nazis were brought here and suffered extreme torture.
