    How does this compare with azure front door? I know that this operates on layer 4 while AFD operates on layer 7. If we don't care about SSL termination or the smarter routing that afd offers, is cross-region lb a better choice? It seems to me that afd will still be faster wrt failovers etc. What advantage does cross region load balancer have over AFD?

      Hi Pradeep! Azure Load Balancer can be directly integrated with VM while Azure Front Door is mostly used for HTTP workload at the web layer. Azure Front Door provides faster failover since traffic is proxied at the edge of the Microsoft network. In terms of pricing, depending on specifics Azure Load Balancer generally costs less than Azure Front Door.

    Good news! I Would lke to implement multi-region using a load balancer on top/front of the clusters. But until today, no load balancer (traffic manager, front door and others) allowed DNS TLD entries (type A).
    About using load balancer across regions using the AKS load balancer as the backend. Is this not available yet? I did some tests and I couldn't.

    What's about the backend? and can the gobal load balancer can communicate with regional load balancer with private ip ?

      Hey there! The backend of Cross-region Load Balancer only supports regional Public Load Balancer’s frontend. Private Load Balancer is not supported in the backend for now, but it is on the roadmap for the future. You can read more about limitations here: msft.it/6057VRvQl

    If i have an express route with two regions , can i keep the Global Load Balancer Internal ?

      Hi there Ranjeet!
      At this time only Public frontend for Cross-region Load Balancer is supported. Support for Private frontend is on the future roadmap, but we don't have any more details to share into when it might be available at this time. Keep an eye out on our social channels for updates!

      @@MicrosoftAzure Hi - Just wondering if there is an update on this? We have a scenario with Expressroute where there is no public frontend that we need to failover, can you point me to the roadmap or share the GA date for this feature?

    When should I use Cross-region Load Balancer instead of Traffic Manager? CRLB should be faster and more predictable than DNS for failover, I guess. Any other reasons?

    • @MicrosoftAzure
      @MicrosoftAzure  3 года назад +1

      Hey Viktor and thanks for reaching out! Below are a few pointers we would consider:
      1. Cross-region Load Balancer leverages Microsoft backbone network to provide efficient routing. DNS resolving can also be avoided with Cross-region Load Balancer being a layer 4 load balancer.
      2. Cross-region Load Balancer uses a single Anycast IP which is region-redundant, which makes IP management easier for you.
      3. In terms of pricing, depending on specifics, Traffic Manager could be a better option compared with Cross-region Load Balancer.

    He asked twice what happens in that very moment when the load balancer still hasn’t noticed the region is down and she prevaricated
