  • My 1999 Toyota Camry, Which I Now Own, is a Car, I Guess.
    It's got nearly 200,000 miles on it, so it's certainly a lil bit of a beater, and honestly, i don't really care about it one bit. well, i do, but only to keep it working. the car is NOT the v6 sadly, instead it has a 2.2l inline 4cyl making roughly 120hp, paired to a 5 speed automatic transmission, i think. overall, it's slow, slightly broken, but surprisingly has working AC, which means it meets all my requirements for a daily driver. i love it. hope y'all enjoy ykwis!

    It hurts to see this. I LOVE my 2000 Toyota Camry. It's the only thing I can afford at the moment, and I've always loved the design of it! I actually GREW UP with this Camry. I was a teenager age 15 when we got our first Camry with this design, how dare you be rude to it and make fun of it 😞.

    It's actually not bad. I'll BET the radiator was NOT damaged when the bumper was hit. They eventually get a crack in the top, usually in the same place even the replacements do. The heat, cool cycles. Add anti freeze into the overflow tank. It has a full mark on it. IF, you ever need to replace the timing belt, change the water pump and the two pulleys for the belt. You're at the milage too that the cam seal may leak. So I'd change the cam, crank, and oil pump seals too. Be SURE to change the oil pump seal too. It's like an O ring type material, and they fail after so long. I learned that the hard way. I've owned a 99 camry for over 12 years. They're VERY reliable. Mine has over 260,000 miles. Oh, they're easy to work on too. I'd check that lower control arm on passenger side to see if it got knocked or pushed a little in her wreck, maybe even bent, for alignment issues.

    • @JamesSmith-jq2jc
      @JamesSmith-jq2jc Год назад +2

      I'll add, parts at Toyota are very well priced compared to aftermarket. I've had very good luck with them. That's where I got all the timing belt parts, water pump and seals and gaskets from. It's a non interference engine, so IF the belt breaks, the engine is NOT destroyed. Happy travels.

    Can’t go wrong with a Camry. The beater car of choice for my family was a red Nissan versa 2006 it was nothing fancy but it got the job done and kept my sister safe during college but we got rid of it a couple years ago it broke down on us and was old and not worth fixing now my sister upgraded big time to a beater to a white 2021 Mazda 3 with black interior much better and more fun to drive hopefully it’ll be reliable and strong like the versa was. But beater cars still do hold a special place for me at times

    Blew it up towing a trailer up a very steep hill.
    2.2 auto, and I think it dropped a piston.
    With the oil light on, I kept driving it for 2 weeks, and traded it for twice what I paid.
    On a Mazda Tribute 3.0.
    It was fast but hungry.
    No rust, as evidenced by my having to be cut out of it by Emergency Services after hitting a bank at 60+. The lights went out.

    This thing is as reliable as reliable can get - the pinacle of I4 engines. This and the 98 Corolla just keep chugging along. The oil seal on these cars goes and I basically ran mine bone dry for 3 days without issue. Ran on a bad power steering pump for 2 weeks, etc. If a part does go out it's usually because of rust and they will keep chugging along until you can get it fixed. The only issue is these things are so low to the ground they rust out easily in NE winters.
