5 star recipe for Nanny's Zeppole

    This is Nanny's recipe for Zeppole. Enjoy! - Hedy
    1 cup warm water (110 degrees)
    2 cups flour (sifted)
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. yeast
    Tbsp. sugar - optional
    Mix well the flour, salt, and yeast (sugar if using). Add the water and mix until well blended. Cover and place in warm area until the dough has risen about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Heat oil until temperature is around 325 degrees. Drop by tablespoon into hot oil and brown on both sides. Remove from oil and sprinkle with confectionary sugar or cinnamon sugar (1/2 tsp. cinnamon with 1/2 cup sugar). This recipe makes about 15/16 zeppole.
