If you want to go even more minimal, get a tracker like Milkytracker (free), the Erang sample packs (also free) and you're good to go. No extra hardware required ;-) Fun fact: Valfar used a tracker (Fasttracker 2) to make the Windir-songs, you can see that in an interview NRK did with him back in the day.
Wow that's cool! But it seems like milkytracker can't see mp3 files...since this free dungeon pack has mp3 samples...always wanted to figure out how to work with trackers :)))
I watched the interview! He really used fasttracker! That's amazingly:) I wonder how he recorded his music..maybe he used analog recorders or something...
The best dungeon synth I ever heard was with a fellow student. In his student apartment, it was on an Ensoniq ASR-10, no computer or DAW. Man, it sounded AWESOME!
People: "There's no music genre more underground than Black Metal" Me: "What's more 'under-ground' than a DUNGEON related music genre?" ...Ok, Maybe Dino-Synth is.
Dropping a themed- or concept-album isn't "creating a new subgenre" but reddit spergs think they re-invent the wheel while stealing 38 minutes of your lifetime with a bunch of songs no one remembers after listening to them...its "le reddit gentlemen tips fedora xD synth"
I haven't tried Sonatina Orchestra, will have to give it a go. I'm something of a vst hoarder, but for Dungeon Synth I absolutely recommend the free Creepy Piano by Electronik Sound Lab, it does get a bit away from the classic synth'n'rompler sounds but I love it, especially for more ambient stuff like I tend to create. Welcome to Dungeon Synth :-)
Oh, I've already bought a cheap late '80s Casio keyboard for this purpose... only if I'd seen this video sooner. Although no regrets, it's fun to try out all the oldschool midi tones, there are a lot! Will check the mentioned softwares as well to spice up things a little when I'll finally have the inspiration to write/record something. The EP is really nice by the way, keep going on with more dungeon synth stuff! :)
My first two albums were made with Perfect piano , a phone app and recorded with my laptop mic. That was 1 year ago. Now I have a proper synth and audio interface
For that modern, ambient dungeon synth sound, like something out of a ps2 game . I highly recommend vst VITAL, it's free, and very but very modifiable, although not so friendly if you don't have knowledge of sound design.
Haha! Sablast! thank you for your vids! They are always simple and very informative, and btw I'm from Russia and just played chess :))) can't wait to hear your ds album :)) Hails!
I downloaded Sonita to to get started, but it is just sound files? How do I make use of that keyboard UI you showed off? does this have to be loaded into a DAW? I have looked online and cannot find what answers to my questions. Many thanks in advance.
So I somehow got it into reaper, I just had to open it through FX > Developers > Bigcat Instruments. Maybe I can restructure the pathing to make it better, but it's playable at this state which is pretty cool. 👍
Everyone silently agrees to communicate in english but no,you're above that and expect moonrunes because why read the room if you can just squat and empty your bowels to get attention, right?
the link you posted for Sonatina Orchestra only lets you download the .mse files. can you explain how you got it to work on Reaper? I’ve tried just about everything and forums aren’t helping. Thanks!
Black metal with basic rock influences. Although black came from/against death metal, death metal came from thrash, thrash from speed metal and hard rock and hard rock from blues and rock and roll, so technically all that DNA is *IN* Black metal, most of it is distant and faint. So adding pure rock elements creates a hybrid genre. You could think of it as blackened hard rock if approached from the other side.
Hey bro if I paid you some cash and give you tabs and a song that has example guitars in it would you do guitars for song? Only like 3 different riffs it’s mostly synth
cheers brother, would you be able to put your email in the information section or reply with it here? You don’t have it on here (I’m on iPhone so not sure if that’s why)
Hej from Long Island! Question: What do you think of the Polish project called Diabarha? Diabarha produces Speedcore, Splintercore, some Terrorcore, and Extratone musikk. My favourites by her are Russian Piano, and her video with the dancing Anime girl named Chika.
After watching your first movie about dungeon synth i started recording stuff. Thx man for inspiration ;) hails from Poland \m/ P.S. if you want check out my project Taor Belkor
Step 1: Have a synth.
Step 2: Have a dungeon.

Step 3: Profit!

Great video! I am also into Dungeon Synth. This Method is one of the most effective to me aswell 👍🏻 Your stuff sounds epic!
Can you keep making DS videos please, only a few people have made/are making videos on how to o make it. Great video as always

It mite be better as midi is to snapped to grid.
The best tutorial ever!!! I'm gonna try something like darkwave using this method!
You're very clever to work the computer

Very good dungeon synth tutorial video!
Thanks dude!! Got inspired to make some dungeon synth! 🤘🏽
A keyboard from goodwill and a tape recorder is all you need. Everybody shut the hell up.
Truth!
SampleScience Nouveau Mellow is great for dungeon synth. It has lofi sounds that really fits well in the genre.
Limitations also breed creativity. Highly recommend starting with the most basic setup possible.
Hell, DI into audacity if you feel like it.
Been using Audacity for over 10 years now. Perfectly content.
