    I started binge watching you during our lockdown here in oregon, and slowly but slowly am catching up. I really love it that you take the camera on your walks so we get to see some of england in addition to the canals. Also appreciate the introduction to the Bald Explorer a while ago. I watch his as a break from all my NB vlogs. Thank you!

    I love the Ashbury Canal also, too, as well. Gorgeous daffodils. We tried to grow some here in Minnesota, but I don't think they liked the -50 degree winter weather. Next year we will grow some here in the house. Thanks for taking us along, although blowy, I enjoyed the whole vlog. Hugs from Merry Ann from Minnesota.

We’re going up the Llangollen between 18th April and 6th May so if you go through Whittington then we won’t be around but hopefully we can still sort something out, would love to catch up x

    nothing wrong with Greggs considering John Gregg started as a Tyneside baker in 1939 and opened his first shop in Gosforth Newcastle upon Tyne in 1951 and his son Ian and assisted by his brother Colin took over after Johns death in 1964 and they do have an historic shop front in Brecon Mid wales which they opened in 2005 so they do have some old style bakery shops and they still use some their own old recipes as well as new recipes in todays operation lol another great video by the way and glad to see the weather changed for you during all that heavy wind couldn't you have found a less open space area and had trees on either side to protect you and the boat from the winds or was the open space what you preferred despite that wind keep up the good work

    Lovely video, taking time to show the scenery makes all the difference, too many others are now spending all their time just showing their heads talking at the camera ,they may as well have a channel sitting in a council flat.On the Barge l brought a Army surplus hard frame pack cheap and found it a lot easier for carrying back supplies and it was great for collecting decent sized "free range" firewood and a lot better on the back,etc.
    We were renovating on the move as well and as you know on a boat there is always something that needs fixing, one of the handiest tools l had was a rechargeable Demolition Saw that came in the drill kit,l would carry it in the pack and use it to quickly cut good heavy firewood with and carry back in the pack.We used the fire as much as possible to save gas as it was a ordeal to get in France and the bigger bottles were a pain literally and to get the double use from the fire for cooking/simmering as well as heating . In the end we were sick of towns as well and use to deliberately look for moorings at least a mile out of town, just far away from the bustle and still a nice walk and much needed exercise to grab supplies, we ended up always spending more time in the country side. Happy Cruis'n and give the dogs a pat from us

    • @francesmccarty1544
      @francesmccarty1544 5 лет назад

      Hi Daryl. We always pat the dogs at the end of your messages. You sound so similar in outlook to us and we have picked up lots of tips from you. We will definitely try to do a bit more outdoor cooking this year when the stove isn't lit. Grilled veggies by the fire with a glass of wine and a little star gazing....how wonderful. We do have backpacks for shopping but have often thought that army surplus stores would be great for more ideas. Thanks for all your messages

    The CRT are always saying how green and environmentally focussed they are, so a couple of recycling bins here and there would be
    The wind does seem to whip across the canal. The exterior of the boat looks good after the ravages of winter, internally it looks as if Fran is not treating those drawers very well !
    I walk my garden and local footpaths daily and it is amazing how the earth is responding to a bit of warmth.
    Another very enjoyable video.
    Thanks. AJ

    Some lovely photography in this episode. I really enjoyed the view along the lock gates as they opened and closed. I’m glad you survived the terrible weather, it’s only slightly improved here and we’re going from warm sunshine to hailstones in a matter of minutes. It’s all very strange and I can’t believe we’ve had such a mild winter compared with last year! It’s incredible that CRT are still not getting to grips with recycling facilities especially when so much waste can be recycled now. With regards to Greggs, I hope it improves business for the independent bakery because customers will see a direct comparison between their products. I had one of Greggs much publicised vegan sausage rolls at the motorway services last week and had heartburn for the rest of the journey! Thanks as always for another great video. I can’t wait to see the Ashby I loved that canal.

    Oh, the wind! I grew up in the NW portion of New Mexico in the US. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Farmington. Beautiful country! But, the wind starts blowing like that in February and stays until the middle of May. I go back, occasionally, as all my family is there, but managed to avoid the wind. Went back last year while daughter went into hospital and husband became so ill we almost lost him. So I was there for 10-11 months. The wind! I started walking with my shoulders protecting my ears. The sound, the feel of that wind is miserable. I had forgotten how it had effected me (and everyone around me). When you are inside, it whistles down the fireplace, blows sand in through places you would swear it couldn’t get through. Ugh..then in the heat of the summer you are wishing for even a slight breeze. Too much for too long then not enough when you want it. You just start to get cranky after awhile.
    You came into a lock doing what I assume was real time. I have determined to buy a Narrowboat and spend several years on the canals once husband recovers fully. I am reconsidering. I would like to think I am laid back, and have often been described as such, but that was awfully slow. People seem to love it, and it seems fantastic. But how does one adjust to crawling everywhere? Do people change their mind after a month or two? I think I will have to rent one for about that long to make sure it doesn’t make me as cranky as that wind!
    Great video! Though it made me think. I hope you have a wonderful spring cruising. Or how about a wonderful couple of decades? Even better. Till next time! Thanks!

    To buy 4 sausage rolls and a coffee in a bakery would cost you best part of a tenner in Greggs it costs about £5
