    I think the reason it only applies to the Merry-Go-Round's organ style music is because [if I remember correctly], that was the only ride that played music in RCT1. So it might just be a piece of legacy code that was never changed for RCT2.

    • @607
      @607 3 года назад +1

      0MindSwept0 In my experience it's not much more than piano; if you don't switch keyboards in the middle of a piece you don't have to think about there being multiple ones, and if you have to change stops within a piece someone else will usually do that for you. So there's just the pedalboard that's extra, and in return, you can leave any concern about dynamics. Of course, note duration is very important, but if you frequently play without the sustain pedal on a piano, it is fairly important on piano too.

      I wonder if that comparison operator is to blame? At 1:43 you can see that if nearby_music is equal to '1', then it allows that comment. I wonder if that nearby_music is a True/False flag, or an integer. If a True/False flag, then it only detects if there is nearby music. If it is an integer, then whichever music is labeled as number one would be the only one showing up as equal to '1'. (So if a nearby music was of type '2', it would be false)
      So if nearby_music is an integer that can be one of several values, that IF condition would be changed from:
      If (nearby_music == 1 && num_rubbish < 20)
      to:
      If (nearby_music >= 1 && num_rubbish < 20)

    Music does something, it makes the game even more fun. The restrictions with the organ style comes from the classics parks in the world, at this time only organ style was available because the box that generate the sound is like an automatic piano, so you don't need people to play the song. The instrument has a box where you put air, with something to push it to compress the air, then the piano opens a all leading to a tube, the smaller the tube is the highest the note is, to make it automatic there is a wheels that contains a paper with holes in it, when the hole cross the button it push it and you can visually see the buttons moving as if a ghost was playing. This mechanics cost a lot and you usually only get one for each park. The fun fact is the Marry go Round failure could really happen IRL, if the wheel suddently go too fast it makes the song quicker. Also the Marry go Round has 42 minutes of playtime on RCT, with at least 11 classic tracks. Search "John Madin - Keykens' Serenade - Ossett" :)

    I have a second use for the music, but only the merry-go-round. I always open a window centered on the merry-go-round and make sure that it is playing sound. I don't listen to the rest of the park. When the merry-go-round breaks down, and starts to speed up, so does the music. I know it is supposedly a urban legend that it explodes if you let it go too fast, but I've had it happen. It was so long ago that I was only a kid, and wasn't recording, but it scarred me bad enough that hearing the music speed up even a little gives me anxiety. Anytime I hear the music speed up, I go and shut the merry-go-round down and it slows to a stop until fixed.

    In RCT3, ride music affects ride intensity. Each music track has a hidden "Genre" value that is associated with it, and depending on what specifically is chosen, it can either raise or lower the ride intensity; for example, genres like Rock and House will raise the intensity rating, whereas genres like New Age and Easy Listening will lower it.
    It is also possible to edit the genre of a music track on a whim by going into the game files: there is a .txt file somewhere buried in there that allows you to edit this variable.
    I forgot how many named Genres are in RCT3's code.

      Well, in the code that Marcel showed, the music condition was
      "nearby_music == 1"
      I did implicitly assume that the "nearby_music" variable is a booleaan, and can't go above 1, but if it is an integer that stores HOW MANY music sources there are nearby, then that would mean having more than 1 source will indeed keep peeps from enjoying the music.
      Maybe Marcel can elaborate on this?

    I guess it goes to show how little I do in decorations because I almost always get tons of guests with "clean and tidy" but realized I rarely do music either. In fact, I typically have "clean and tidy" towards the top. Even in maps that are decorated to start with, I have barely ever seen the scenery thought or the music thought.

    I still use music as an ambience for myself. If I don’t have any default music rides around, I’ll often choose something with a theme to let me know I’m in a particular themed area of my park, even if I can’t see the ride. For example, the Wild West music on a wooden coaster goes well for some themes.

    In an amusement/theme park in real life, music can liven up the atmosphere of the park. In the case of merry-go-round/carousel music, this style can even make people feel nostalgic 🎵🎶🎠

      Most of the time, carousel organ music is quite cheerful, and it adds to the fun factor a bit, as I feel the music goes well with the up and down motion of the animals on standard carousels 😉 Makes me think the up and down motions could be somewhat rhythmic if they're timed with the music 🎵🎶🎠

    Another very interesting video, eventhough the topic isn’t that broad ;]
    Something I would be very interested in, is a video similar to your maze-video, namely: how does some of the other in-attraction pathing/route-choosing of guests work? For example the rowing boats or watercycles, but also the dodgems or even the pathing of guests to coastertrains or which enterprise cabin they enter. I would love to know more about that without actually reading coding myself ;]

    Notice possible mistake (nearby_music == 1) instead of what is considered a good style: (nearby_music != 0)
    it seems, music was at some point a bool (1=true=music, 0=false=no music),
    they then chose to make it an int to also store music type (0=no music, 1=style1, 2=style2)
    but they forgot to change the code when they added new styles beyond merry-go-round and dodgems,
    so for some reason organ style got ID=1, and now that is the only one that is eligible.
    the dodgems drowning out "nice" music was most likely intentional, and it is probably hardcoded somewhere that presence of dodgems always sets music=0, but again they forgot about it when they implemented selectible music styles so this code unintentionally overrides actual music style for dodgems.
    In the save way, it may also be that merry-go-round specifically will always allow for a "nice music" thought irregardless of actual style.

  • @racer927

    My guess is that this thought was programmed for vanilla RCT where the only ride music was Fairground Organ or Dodgems Beat, hence why the Dodgems playing music will drown out that of the Merry-Go-Round.
