Thanks for sharing this. I got this Hoverair X1 drone, which is only 125g with battery. It was designed to be more like a flying camera, so it can fly a max of about 9 meters. It's great for taking selfies, it does not use satellites nor have a remote control. I use this mostly to capture my walk in the bush or jogging since it can track a person without any intervention from the user. Does the distance from people apply to these kind of drones ?
Hey mate, thanks for your feedback. Simply speaking, just join an FPV club, attend the socials and you'll be fine. www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/flying-first-person-view#ModelaircraftassociationsapprovedtoflyFPV

I am planning a guided boat cruise from Darwin to Broome. Would I be OK to use my DJI mini se ( sub 250g) to take home some personal recreational drone footage of some unpopulated parts that remote Kimberley coast? I envisage launching it from the shore line to take in some views of the coast, from over the water. I would not be flying over people , over 120 metres, within 5.5 Km from an airfield, or fly it at night.
It should be ok. Just check the areas you want to fly over on Ok2fly, to make sure you're not flying near a military base or marine national park. Take awesome footage!
Just a quick question: you mentioned a drone cannot fly over private property which i can understand in the case of certain property like homes, schools, hospitals etc but, can a sub 250g drone be flown over commercial/industrial sites as long as it is unrestricted airspace according to OK2FLY? I am wanting to shoot my own footage for my channel so i already have an ARN with CASA and will be registering my mavic mini and obtaining the relevant requirements from CASA for commercial use in case my channel gets monetised, i just want to make sure i have all the boxes ticked. Thanks for an informative video. Bryan
Hi Bryan, thanks for your message. CASA doesn't control land, it only controls airspace. If you don't have permission from the owner of the land you're flying your drone over, they can call police and claim trespassing. The main thing is that you are breaching their privacy. It's highly recommended to reach out to the owners and let them know that it's a business flight, and also have your flight plan written on paper just in case.
Hey mate, if it's indoor, you won't need anything except understanding how the drone works, but if you want to fly outdoor, you'll need to be a member of an authorised Australian FPV club. Google what's around, and join one of them.
No, you don't need a licence for it. I still recommend to become a member of an FPV drone club. For more info: www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/flying-first-person-view#Thedosanddon%E2%80%99tsofflyingFPV
Hi @eaglise I am planning to buy DJI MINI 4 PRO with intelligent flight plus batteries just for longer run time. I will use it for recreational activities and I am soooo confused do I need to register or need a licence or anything before flying it as it will go over 250 grams with those batteries 🥺. Please help me!
Hey mate, no you don't need any licence to fly it. Mini 4 has a really good camera, and it's a fun drone to fly. Just remember, smaller drones are normally less wind resistant.
Yes. Only if you use your drone rather than sports and recreation, you must register your drone. www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/travelling-your-drone#TravellinginAustralia
Hey mate. You don't need a licence for mini. Beaches that are not national marine parks are great locations in Victoria. Just make sure you're not flying near the other people.

Hello what certifications do I need for me to bring my FPV kwad in Au? I applied for ARN and do I still need to register it if I'm only gonna use it for Fun? cheers from Ph! :)
Hi there, to be able to legally fly an FPV in Au, you need to be a member of an authorised Australian FPV club. It's very easy to apply. For recreational flights, you don't need to register your drone. www.casa.gov.au/drones/drone-rules/travelling-your-drone#TravellingoutsideAustralia
You can do many things but they've got ramifications. Same as mentioned in the video. It can be a bit tricky with the FPV. Join an FPV club and it should be ok.
