I own a T5 custom and am absolutely thrilled with it. It sounds great with or without amplification. I play it daily and have never had any issues with it. To the best of my knowledge, they have not been discontinued and are still available (I purchased mine less than a year ago).
When Dave says he is there for his patrons, he is serious. I have asked for guitar advice on several occasions and he has always promptly responded with sound advice. Also, through watching his videos over a period of time, I have become my own guitar tech, rivaling most of the guitar techs that I have met in my city. Several have commented on how good my work was, joking that I might take their job. I recommend people watch his videos for awhile and learn. Become a patron for the skills you gain. You get his dry sense of humor and sarcasm for free.🤣🤣🤣 Thank you for everything, Dave.
I have a Taylor T5Z, the model they still make. They are brilliant to play. The controls are 1 volume, bass & treble centre notched. The 5 way switch changes pickups and an internal piezo pickup so it can sound like an electro acoustic or an electric. The pus are stacked humbuckers.
When you're as old as me (you may never get there) and your arthritic fingers can't manage a full acoustic, you will come to appreciate the T5. Yes they still make it.
Hey Dave were with you bud. FTG Maybe others don't realize what all your super cool guitars and repairs are worth. Thanks for your time. $18.00 per 1000. We all appreciate you and know who you are. Peace and be good to each other.
When I got my T5z, the 1st thing I had to do was fix a grounding issue. They built in what is essentially a fuse in the ground circuit (because it was supposed to protect the player from getting zapped by sketchy venue wiring). So when the fuse inevitably blows for no reason, it still passes signal, but it has a buzz. It actually sounds like this guitar might have the same problem,or perhaps it is just the amp buzzing. I got mine for cheaper because it buzzed, and now I love it a lot, since I fixed it. Great guitar, especially if you do acoustic and electric songs in the same set.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff no worries Dave, of course I did that. 👍 I was referring to that buzzing sound like when you plugged it in around 22:20 and proceeded to work past the crackle pots. That buzz was still there, even after the crackling was gone. Like I said, it might just be amp noise, (being near the camera mic etc.) and it was not in any way intended as a criticism of you or of your work. You do good stuff, and we enjoy watching you do it. 🤘

In the world of guitar repair, and youtube videos Dave is the best. I was just looking at another video from someone else. I won't mention their name but they were so irritating to watch, at least to me. I know the person was just trying to be entertaining, and they do have a lot of followers. I suppose that guys type of humor just wasn't my cup of tea. I like it when the presentation it straight forward. Humor is fine but not stupid humor, I don't like stupid humor. I like honest humor, and even the type that may be considered a bit dry. Any info presented that is straight to the point. Dave doesn't candy coat anything. I like that the most! Thanks Dave!
I've learned a lot from you I also appreciate your remarks. I started getting braver about monkeying with the truss rod from watching your videos. A giant thank you from me to you!
Some cretins will steal anything whether it's nailed down or not; you might look at it as a sign of how popular and special you are. Good on ya for stopping that crap. That's a beautiful sounding and looking guitar, one that I'd love to have but not for $3k!! It looks fragile from here, like a few years on the club circuit could kill it. Those knobs reminded me of Jujubees soft candy.
I'm just like you I don't care if I lose every friend and acquaintance but I am not filtering myself I have earned the right to be myself and if you don't like it go...... well you know! Cheers Dave
It's always the battery compartment in these things. DO NOT use Duracell 9V batteries; they are fatter than others and end up messing the battery door up over time and eventually, it won't stop buzzing. I just replaced my entire back assembly on mine.
Some guitars only use battery power when being played. The electronics go dormant until it is played again. Nice feature. There’s a bunch of these on eBay, but all have single pickup.
Dave , love your channel . Having said that why didn't you just re-shim the neck rather than cut the saddle ? The saddle is designed to be a fixed point on a Taylor guitar .
The 2 strap buttons on the bottom (likely) form a stand when you put the guitar's butt on the floor. Same feature was on the Hagstrom solid-body "Swede" & "Super Swede" ... the old Made in Sweden ones.
I think that guitar sounds pretty nice. 🙄 Design flaws notwithstanding. 3G's is a bit ambitious. 😝 A guy on ebay wants 4700 for his. It better come with a case and an attractive female guitar tech.
I remember when these guitars first came out, there was a lot of hype in the guitar magazines in the early 2000s. I tried a couple out and remember being quite disappointed with them, as they clearly did not live up to the hype. It didn't help that I was already playing an exceptional vintage archtop at home, and this Taylor didn't even come close to it.
I have been looking at these, the C-2 for a long time and I was pleased to see you had taken one up to work with. I am emboldened, even though I know bats will fly out when I lift the truss rod cover and there will be a bunch of snot in there. It seems to have a respectable tone un-plugged for just strumming in the office. I'd like to see how she does at higher amplifications and distortions, so far as fremth and feedback goes. Thanks for the vid! Mark
why make a removable neck? because yer design suks and we need to fix it later..overpriced tiny sound junk..sorry if you bought a Taylor..disposable guitar at best
A friend of mine has one of these for a while. I got to try it out. It was ok, I guess. It actually sounded good thru an amp with a little gain. Would I buy one? No. Too much crap that can go wrong. Also, I agree about the comparison about cars and guitars. As long as it plays good or drives good, who the frig cares what people think. Cheers!
My buddy bought a sweet brown T5 and would bring it out, but eventually gravitated back to his Grestch Rancher acoustic electric, which I think looks cooler
Dave I’m glad you are always yourself and you don’t conform to all the PC Bs going on in the world I love you sick sense of humor and we love you show here in the USA keep all the great repair videos coming.
Thanks again for the cooking episode the other day! Side note, I own a DN3. Don't like it much. I just want a plain jane early 2000's -310 again. I know you don't like 'em, but that was a great guitar.
If the action is high an authorized repair tech can adjust the neck angle by getting the neck shims from Taylor. Since this is a solid spruce top, it's likely over-humidified and the neck angle shifted. Adjsuting the truss rod without measuring neck relief isn't the way I'd go, nor is filing the saddle down without measuring to see if it's out of spec. You've filed the saddle down so much the high E string has almost no break angle. That could have been avoided by simply changing the neck shim out.
I have a t5 it has one pu like that one then one hidden under the top then a piezo under the bridge. Nice, fun guitar. Does a lot of things well but nothing great.
Like a Fender Acoustasonic, it’s a jack of all trades and a master of none. I have a nice Martin acoustic electric. It actually sounds great when not plugged in. I have a Telecaster. It sounds great when plugged in. This guitar is unnecessary.
I get a lot of Taylors to sort out too, Dave...constantly amazed at how much they cost and how shitty the build and quality control can be - not every time, but far too often for the high price point.
I own a T5 custom and am absolutely thrilled with it. It sounds great with or without amplification. I play it daily and have never had any issues with it. To the best of my knowledge, they have not been discontinued and are still available (I purchased mine less than a year ago).
The original T5 was replaced by the T5z. The pickups and parts are the same, jsut a smaller body and different fingerboard radius
@@gabrielobrien21 The T5z also has very different frets from the T5C2

You do not have to shave the saddle on Taylor guitars. Remove the neck (very simple) and shim it. That is how Taylor recommends setting action.
the neck removal is a hand job and can be done anytime..4 minutes or 1 hour take yer pick
