I'd love to see you covering Spoolman. I discovered it by myself and used it upon notice since i very much enjoy organizing (what is wrong with me, help) and having you wrapping it up would be so nice. I can't grasp how many things i tried out or even just heard about and was an instant fan of thanks to you covering it
Yes, one vote for a video on spool man. Also is there a potential video for the Magneto X coming up? I couldn't help but see it in the room and I'm itching for a review on it! Appreciate your work, thanks!
A must should be to use cabinet joiners to join them all together. That should make them a fair bit less likely to fall. But if given enough force might make them all fall over. I've had 3 of these joined without fixing them to the walls due to landlord issues and they seem much more stable.
snap off window packing shims are a great option to add a slight backwards lean to bookcases, so your anchor is less likely to be needed, and to keep things from rolling forwards off shelves.
Dude, that is a great idea. Especially for people who live in a rented apartment or house and can't or don't want to drill into the walls. I use wall hung racks but may go with a couple of these in the new shop. Thanks for sharing!
Great setup! I just started using Spoolman and it's absolutely life changing! As I print with ASA almost exclusively, it's great to be able to see the last time a filament was used so I have an idea of how much drying it may need before I start.
Cover Spoolman please! I would love to see the community pick this up and run with it, hopefully leading to custom integrations into slicers and multi-material systems like the ERCF.
Conduit cutting tip: if you can secure it to something so you aren't holding it while you're cutting then the experience is sooo much better. You get much less tired and you can cut faster. I used conduit with Makerpipe joints for a project and once most of the structure was made I clamped it to that and it was a huge difference
I am going to do similar on a much smaller scale. Also, in Idaho though so waiting till I can get the billy shelves delivered without paying the freight charges. Your filament wall is impressive.
Love this. Filament storage is definitely a problem for me. I currently have them all in bags in a storage cabinet and it’s super annoying. If I had the space this would be the solution 😊
Good video. As I start collecting spools of filament, I realised I need a storage system, that wouldn't break the bank. 20mm PVC conduit and 3D printed brackets have worked so far. But it is ruff, 😅
I would love to see Spoolman and how it works. I have a Bambu Lab printer which you didn't mention, but it sounds like it may not work. I tried to use 3D Print Log but it the last time I checked it didn't have all of the filament types (for example it has ABS but not ASA), the interface was a little clunky, and requests to the people who manage seem to have fallen on deaf ears. I like the Ikea storage system by the way, it's cleaner to me than the reprack solution. I would try to go that route and seal it up for desiccant (my place is humid as heck), but I already went down the sealed storage boxes with desiccant and hygrometers.
This is great! Definitely giving me some inspiration for future filament storage when I have larger volumes of filament. P.S. I’m glad you think you won’t be getting anymore filament, good luck with that! 😂
Please make a guide for spool man. Wanted to implement it but its hard for me to read long texts, a video of at least an overview in video form would really help!
3:21 Your alter ego is The Incredible Hulk? 😂 It should be emphasized that wall anchors are even more important for those of us living in earthquake zones.
Bought a billy only to realize I have no access to 1/2in tubing where I live. I drew up a 16mm tube version and test printing right now. will upload 16mm version tomorrow once I've confirmed fitment.
Any way of getting labels under the rolls? Like a clip on thingy that you can slide a paper label or will you just put pla in the left petg in the middle and right would be abs/ asa etc
This seems unnecessarily complicated. I just have my spools in a Billy straight on the shelves. I made some custom holes to mount shelves at specific spaces to fit more spools, but that's like a five minute job for the whole bookshelf.
IKEA… an excuse to visit Portland or Seattle lol. I’m fortunate I live within an hour of the Portland store. I wish they had more stores or at least cheaper shipping to areas that don’t have stores.
A hacksaw or sawzall and a 3d printed saw guide that holds the blade perfectly 90 degrees to the pipe will be far quicker and easier than pipe cutters. Surface finish isn’t as nice, but that really doesn’t matter for this use case.
The only downside I see to Spoolman... there is nothing that can be done about tracking Bambu usage and I print quite a bit on my Bambu printers as well.
For that cost for a particle board that you're not going to use the shelves on boy what a waste, what's wrong with Rep rack did you not like it, I love rap rack pet G rapid makes it faster the print.......
IKEA Pro-Tip: Add carpenters glue to those wooden dowels. Keeps these things from falling apart when moving them around.
"as long as I don't get any more filament in".... LOL. famous last words.
Please make a video about spoolman!!! Looks amazing 😍
Great build. I’d like to see a video on spoolman.
Haha I was not expecting so many people to want to check out spoolman. I will add it to the list :)

Yes yes yes for Spoolman. I've been wanting to get it set up for myself but been too lazy 😂

This is awesome! One extra benefit of doors on those is it keeps the debris from settling on the filament.

A Spoolman video would be awesome!
Cover Spoolman please!

One of the better looking filament storage solutions. Still prefer to keep mine in sealed containers rather than out in the open where they get dusty.
Thanks. This is exactly what I needed! I really like that you can also keep filament in original boxes.
Do the billy with doors then add a dryer in it your spools will never need to worry about wet filament again 😊
I'd love to see you covering Spoolman

Long time listener, first time caller. Loved the video, would also enjoy a video on spoolman!

I use Robert Cowan’s filament drawers with two IKEA besta (23”x16”) cabinets screwed together. Fits four drawers with nine rolls per drawer.
saw this on stream, exited for a full video,
Edit: Id love to see a spoolman vid
You just solved a problem I've been trying to figure out how to deal with. Thank you!
Looks interesting. Looking forward to seeing how you integrate spoolman!
I would love to see you do a video on Spoolman!
Hello, really love the "IKEA meets 3D printing" idea. And yes please, spool management system
Would love to see a video of you tuning your Z offset, for first layer on that voron.
Would love to see a vid on Spoolman, thanks!
I'm like how you started out currently, barely any filament on hand; still might be able to morph this concept into a mini storage rack, though
I'm sold, going to Ikea today.
Onother vote for a video aout Spoolman. Looks pretty awesome!
Good video.
As I start collecting spools of filament, I realised I need a storage system, that wouldn't break the bank.
20mm PVC conduit and 3D printed brackets have worked so far. But it is ruff, 😅
Enjoyed the content! I'm going to build one to get my filament off the floor soon. Thanks!
I would love to see you do a review on spoolman!
You should totally make a Spoolman video. Would be a good change of content in my opinion
What an awesome solution!! Thanks for sharing.
At least in Europe, Billys come with wall-anchors included.
If you have a chop saw (miter saw) you can cut the emt with that.
I would love to see Spoolman and how it works. I have a Bambu Lab printer which you didn't mention, but it sounds like it may not work.

Yes I would like to know more about spoolman
Please make a guide for spool man. Wanted to implement it but its hard for me to read long texts, a video of at least an overview in video form would really help!
Like i do with all of your other videos, I would love the filament tracker software video! :D
Yes need a filament man whatever software tracking video
Gotta love a good IKEA hack
3:21 Your alter ego is The Incredible Hulk? 😂
It should be emphasized that wall anchors are even more important for those of us living in earthquake zones.
what electric screwdriver do you have? looked good.
Would like to see a video on spoolman and the homeassistant integration

Could wooden dowel rods be used in place of the conduit? It seems like dowels would be less of a hassle to cut.
Spoolman sounds interesting!
Any way of getting labels under the rolls? Like a clip on thingy that you can slide a paper label or will you just put pla in the left petg in the middle and right would be abs/ asa etc
Why not use a hack saw for the pipe cutting?
Why not use PVC instead of metal conduit?
Too flexible. And conduit is very inexpensive.
@@tonycosta3302 Thank you!
Wouldnt wood dowels be cheaper then conduit?
Sometimes you can rent tools from Home Depot for the day in case you have to cut more pipe
This seems unnecessarily complicated. I just have my spools in a Billy straight on the shelves. I made some custom holes to mount shelves at specific spaces to fit more spools, but that's like a five minute job for the whole bookshelf.
Ugh I need this
IKEA… an excuse to visit Portland or Seattle lol. I’m fortunate I live within an hour of the Portland store. I wish they had more stores or at least cheaper shipping to areas that don’t have stores.
Dude, I am actually putting up a RepKord rack unit as I came in to take a break.. so weird..
So, when is that Spoolman video
Make a video about Spoolman please
could have used a hacksaw or a cheap angle grinder to cut the pipes
A hacksaw or sawzall and a 3d printed saw guide that holds the blade perfectly 90 degrees to the pipe will be far quicker and easier than pipe cutters. Surface finish isn’t as nice, but that really doesn’t matter for this use case.
Or a grinder if you don’t mind the sparks.
@@modern_DIY those are way harder to get a straight cut with
I cut this conduit almost everyday for work. That has to be the most terrible way to cut. I would suggest a hacksaw if you don't have power tools.
God damn it I just made a design for the fila shelf :(
But mines cheaper :)
The only downside I see to Spoolman... there is nothing that can be done about tracking Bambu usage and I print quite a bit on my Bambu printers as well.
I just wanna know what the movers thought when they found out they had 500kgs of plastic rolls to load up.
If not movers then your friends and family
Thats a lot of weight for the pressboard..
IDAHO!!!!
For that cost for a particle board that you're not going to use the shelves on boy what a waste, what's wrong with Rep rack did you not like it, I love rap rack pet G rapid makes it faster the print.......
