Used to work at a hotel where Mitsubishi execs used to stay (USA and Canada). One day I decided to ask why they stopped making the evo, they literally told me the enthusiasts don’t make them as much money as the econo boxes sooo I cried after my shift 😭

Mitsubishi is the only company on earth that could make a car from scratch. Down to turbos and electronics. The mined the steel, made the fabrics and all. As for being diversified that's no joke my dad worked for them for decades and he even got some Mitsubishi branded tuna in a can. Crazy.

Don't forget the montero (Pajero) on the SUV side. That thing was a genuine overlander for the US. My mom drove one while I was growing up. Zero issues (and I mean zero) in 15 years until the engine finally let go at 180k miles. I attribute that loss to my younger brother getting his paws on it in college.

Just got me a 1991 Mitsubishi Eclipse (called Plymouth Laser but we all know what it really is) and man the parts are haaaaaard to come by
The best "car" that Mitsubishi made was the A6M Zero! That thing was so sporty and fast that it would get airborne!
Yeah, and the Japanese also conducted more crash tests with it than with any of the other models.
It's was so durable that when a single bullet hit it, it would burst into flames! That's what I call reliable

I can understand pulling the EVO from production considering the sales but the Lancer model as a whole is a shame, it was one of the cooler looking sedans you could get for a decent price
You forgot to mention the Pajero which was a multi rally winning masterpiece.
The 3000GT is arguably the most advanced and the most underrated JDM car of the 90s.

My favourite Mitsubishi's are the Eclipse, the Lancer Evo from the late 90's (EVO V and VI), and the GTO (known elsewhere as the 3000GT)

At least they're clarified this on their website's:
" As efficiency and versatility became increasingly important to consumers, Mitsubishi decided to focus their efforts on crossover vehicles or hybrid cars in order to meet customer demand."
Mitsubishi should really start worrying about how its history was and will be, since it has canceled other vehicle classes instead of maintaining and innovating them. I don't think that all models necessarily have to last forever, because part of creating those concepts is recognizing that there is art and pure design behind something that leads you to have the best possible experience on the road, which evolves.
They really should start making supercars, sports cars again, beef up their SUVs, continue to participate in Rally events and diversify in their intellectual prime. Their charts just show a huge waste of time due to a huge lack of confidence (since they were pretty much sold to the US) and that's not deserved by a brand that created such amazing cars.
I really miss the Lancer and the Eclipse. Those two were a very deep part of my childhood. Sometimes I wonder how those models would have evolved or how their names and forms would have changed.

I love Evo 10s. I seen a black one with white wheels when the 10s had just came out and I feel in love with the style. Eclipse Cross looks really good but they shouldve called it something else. My buddys cousin had a 99 GS-X Eclipse and it made us all so jealous. We was 14 so bout to start driving and really obsessed with cars.
My first car was a Mitsubishi Mirage LS 2000 Sedan. such a fun zippy little car. 1.8 4cyl with 16 valves the color was Midnight Blue and transmission automatic 4 speed.

Was a really cool brand... I like all EVO's, and esp. am still fond of the 1st and 2nd gen Eclipse... Truth be told, I'm still surprised they haven't followed Suzuki out of the NA market.
Why would they pull a Suzuki when they have so many Outlanders to sell to Karens? That is the opposite of a good business plan.
I liked the Starion and the Galant. My brother had a maroon colored Galant and it was pretty nice all around. Comfy, decently sporty, and pretty roomy.

@@justinbellio2285 If you take the number of sales before the drop and divide it by the number of sales after the drop and multiply it by 100 you will get that result. For example if I was making 100k sales and now I have 10k. 100k / 10k x 100 is 1000% So thats a 1000% drop in sales.

The Diamante was my favorite Mitsubishi. Definitely the best looking car they made and had just the perfect dimensions all around. Kinda reminds me of the Lincoln MKZ how it just looks perfect from every angle.

Mr Osamu Masuko, former Mitsubishi Motor CEO sold many Mitsubishi IP to Hyundai in 1980's when he was Mitsubish Corporation(trading company). Masuko killed Evo, Pajero/Shogun and Ecripse. He fired most of engineers and managers woring for him. He remained CEO of Mitsubishi Motors after selling it to Mr Ghosn of Renault. Hyundai became one of biggest motor company and Mitsubishi became one of smallest motor company in the world. He reired just before a few wks of his death. He might be only Motor company CEO without driving licence and never drive any car in his entire life.
back in high school, one of my friends actually owned a plymouth laser. That car was a ton of fun! We drove all around the Navajo Nation Reservation's dirt roads, acting like we were in a Rally! The Laser's suspension was awesome, going 60 on washboard roads easy.
Owner of a 2022 Mirage 5MT here.
It's a very fun car that is easy to work on and gets me about 43-45 MPG on the highway. They dropped the manual transmission for '23s in America but Canada still has it as an option for some reason. Hoping they bring that back for future buyers.
The Eclipse Cross and the Mustang Mach E need different names. That's it.

Used to own a Mitsubishi FTO Mi-vec a little while back... Great little chassis and that high revving V6 engine sounded so so good...
I have a soft spot in my heart for the H24 Eclipse/Laser/Talon. I drove thousands of them around the test track. My fav was the Euro H24. Another issue was management at DSM/MMMA/MMNA. Numbers started to get pushed over quality. The F41 Galant never had less than 10 defects per car going through the final inspection areas. Most were vendor issues that for some reason (Japanese owned?) never got addressed. Came a time of stamp those defects off and ship them out. But oh well, just as long as I keep getting my pension check, hope them the best.
I still feel warm around my heart when I see the iconic RalliArt logo. So many memories from playing Gran Turismo, watching Jackie Chan movies and rallye, be it WRC or Dakar. Legendary
I got ralliart brand mud flaps and Recaro seat covers in my little rally hatch and I dont plan on stopping there. The logo brings me joy.

There is a big part of the equation you did not look at or mention in your video: In 2002 Mitsubishi took a risk by offering 0% financing on almost all new vehicles. This gamble sent new buyers to the brand and resulted in some chart-topping success for Mitsubishi. It also left the company in a lot of debt and was ultimately not sustainable. Buyers were willing to pick up a 2002 Galant for $5000 less than an Accord if they also got 0% financing and some pretty substantial rebates. The problem was that Mitsubishi was selling a lot of cars this way but not actually turning much of a profit. As these programs ended, it turned out that buyers would simply rather go with the Accord.
You also left out the huge lineage of SUVs Mitsubishi had--the Montero and Montero Sport. And that Mitsubishi was one of the pioneers of All Wheel Drive systems, and some would argue, was the inventor of AWD (later selling the technology to competitors).
The lack of a yellow bar wont hinder me from knowing when to stop skipping foward.

especially the Proton Satria GTI. A rebadged Colt with Lotus tuning and a 120~ hp engine

Yeah the eclipse cross was the line for me too. My favorite is again the 2nd gen eclipse GTS, and the EVO 9 MR. That was the peak and no pun intended the "Eclipse" of Mitsubishi sports cars

After owning a 98 Montero V6, it was a disappointment.
It was underpowered compared to Toyota 4runner V6 from the same year.
Boris just cause the V6 had under 200 HP doesn’t mean it wasn’t capable the 2nd Gen Montero was always an overlander and compared to the 4Runner just as if not more capable. Third gen then became monocoque frame and improved 4 wheel independent suspension added third row. It was a family car that had a locking center diff , comfortable on the trails and highways

AMS built my Galant VR4 back in the mid to late 90's. Fully built. TAD actually rebuilt the transmission before AMS. Had that car, '92, 044, for over 10 years. Back belts didn't lock for my kids, sold it and had DEVO build me from a frame a '03 Evo 8. 350 to the wheels. HATED IT. I was too old by then.
Bought a '20 WRX to get my MOJO flowing. Hated it. Gave it new to my kid for her 18th birthday and bought my dream car for the past 20 years because of the engine, which we had N/A in a 04 aveo, the Kia Forte GT.
Absolutely love it! Burger JB4, AEM intake. Awesome! Total sleeper, faster than a auto 6 cyl Camaro.

11:54. The Mark 10 was the best design of all the Lancers in my view. I lived in Japan in the 90s and had two Mirages, first a sedan and then the hatch, but I really wanted one of those Lancers instead, which would've been the Mark 5 I think...
1991 GSX.....one of the most fun cars I have ever driven. It's an evo only lighter, and better handling. Not to mention one of my fav cockpits.

I have ridden in a 3000gt rebadged as a dodge-stealth. Zips around for sure and fun but the engine bay is tight and the transmission computer roasted capacitors several times. The foot well in the passenger seat is also insanely tight.

@@poggrejohnson9862 base model lancer* and yeah, here in Australia, 90% of the new Mitsubishi Mirages are driven by uber drivers/food delivery services and teenagers since it's one of the cheapest cars in the country, around $3,000-$4,000 less than what the base model lancers go for. I easily see nearly twice as many new mirages than pre 2008 and post 2008 lancers

Btw: everyone rags on the Aztec but I never hear anyone say the same things about the Buick Rendezvous which was the same car with Buick badges. Kind of like when people say pintos blow up when rear ended (actually it was quite rare and the news report was rigged so it would blow up), but never say a word about the Mercury bobcat or Mustang II which were all the same car.

Having grown up in the Middle East in the 90s, we had the Mitsubishi Colt, Lancer, Galant, and in the SUVs, the Outlander (and eventually the Nativa) and Pajero, which is a mid size SUV. They also had a minivan called the Space Wagon. None of these cars were cool but they worked as a line up. I’m still bewildered they aren’t organising themselves like this again.
Chrysler Mitsubishi Sigma Scorpion (Mitsubishi Plymouth Sapporo ) 1977-1984 was my favourite out of the Mitsubishi Cars with 2nd choice being The TP Magna Wagon.
I've owned 3 evos... and after they dropped it from their lineup it hurt my feelers. :/

If you are interested in a 3000GT open canvas, I do have a 1991 3000GT SL that was in Florida until 2015, rust free, but does not have an engine or transmission, so it is a great shell!

@@strmshadow8411 for real. I just don’t get it. The car was a damn movie star and sales started rising like crazy. Aftermarket support was insane. And the first thing they do to follow it up was to make a funny looking successor with a god awful engine and the sad thing is. They had such a huge following that people still tried to support the 2000 eclipse and u had a bunch of options to make it perform or look however u wanted. But then it the u reliability and the fact it just could never be as good as the late 90’s eclipse set in and that mafucka died. They should have kept the 4g and just added things they put in the evo. How hard would that have been.
@@vatican35 Yea, they def could've bounced back if they did that. After the 90's some good cars were coming out, it's just the evo was more than most people wanted to pay and they left the eclipse to rot.

i own a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 with 4wd . It’s still amazing. Look cool , comfortable. And i can even take my family or friend to a trip .
I know this is an old video but I think another aspect keeping them alive is their strategic placement of dealers. My closest small city has alot of different brand dealers, including 1 Mitsubishi dealer. It's the smallest dealer around, but it's very close to a large hub area with lots of traffic. I see more mirage's there than anywhere else because they know the demographic. They know who and where the ideal customers are. And when your cars aren't all the exiting, I think that's pretty important

I was a kid when the 2nd generation of Eclipse was released, my neighbor had one, i fell in love with that car.
I miss my 2nd gen eclipse. It's the reason I have so many tools and despise fixing cars but it was fun when it ran!

Owned a 97 vr4 legnum back in the day, we loved that car.
They have done well globally with the suv range, the Outlander or Pajero series as its called in Australia is decades old and has always done fairly well here as 4x4s and family cars are a big part of our market, even the 90s series are still seen everywhere here mixed in with the Landcruisers and Prado's
my first car was a green 2004 Mitsubishi Galant, i loved that car it had tons of heart and tons of memories, i miss that car

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Galant. That was a great car!!!!! My aunt had 2 of them ('94 & '01), & they both did her justice. It was for those who couldn't afford a Camry, but didn't want a Sonata. Mitsubishi lost my respect when they phased it out. It was nice-looking also, especially 1994-2012.

I love the Outlander Sport for speed in sport mode when passing some vehicles eats gas like a mug and handling is a bit rough but fun to drive if you got skills
The biggest loss is the Pajero, it was a very iconic model!
They still sell well in Southeast Asian markets, though are named as "Montero".
