This is indeed the best version of this sublime piece I have ever heard. Not too fast, not too slow.....just the right tempo not to mention the sensitivity displayed by Mr Pressler......simply perfect
What magnetism. You can't do anything, you close your eyes, the memories in the depths of your memory are jostling, you lose track, of the joy of sorrow, even those that you could not imagine still exist, that you can no longer manage to place them neither in time nor in space. You try to listen and re-listen again to this nocturnal in the hope of deciphering them. How magical and beautiful.
I believe the interpretation changes with maturity. I have been playing this piece for forty years. Now in my fifties, I play it deferent. It's not just a piece, It's an experience.
There is so much complexity to the piece and at the same it sounds so undecorated. Every key and tone has been refined and mastered over a lifetime of Mr Pressler’s wonderful interpretation. May his music live on in hearts and souls around the world.
It’s difficult to play it as beautifully as this pianist. It’s not a technical piece, but it’s profoundly moving. I’ve seen kids play this piece, but nearly all get it wrong in terms of emotion.
There's a difference between simple and easy. People aren't saying it's easy, they are saying it's simple, meaning the melody isn't drowned in pointless flourishes, the melody is simple in that way.
From 0:22 until about 26 seconds… I feel ya bro. I’m glad I’m not the only one who reacts that way to this song. It kinda rips your heart out and makes you feel comfortable not having to be strong all the time
I can't stop listening to it over and over again. Behind the tenderness and wisdom of touch seems to emerge the loves of youth always present and fiery! All the phrases are perfect in tempo and articulation, it makes me stop breathing and it gives that timeless sensation. ❤
Mr Pressler’s interpretation takes your breath away. I never have felt so breathless and speechless at the end of anything. He stopped and I froze. I didn’t want to hear any comment and I didn’t want to say anything. I just wanted to absorb what just happened. A wonder…
Every time i listen a piece from an old person i always ask myself “will i still playing piano when i’m at that age?”Especially my favorite piece of all the time, will i remember it as correctly as these people or even if i lose my memory, will i still remember this perfect piece forever?
I've been playing piano by ear for four years now, and a lot of that time I've practiced for 2-3 hours a day, and recently more that. I finally have the courage to learn this song! This performance will be the version I imitate once I have it memorized.
I know it has been a year but I thought I would offer some advice. Try not to imitate people's performances and always opt to make it your own. Having your own performance and take will make the performance 100x more convincing. I apologise that you didn't really ask for this comment.
Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp Minor is a work composed by Chopin in 1830 and published posthumously. Chopin never wanted to publish it, not because he doubted its artistic quality, but because he composed it only for his sister’s pleasure. The score is dedicated to her: “To my sister Ludwika as an exercise before beginning the study of my second Concerto.” In fact, Nocturne No. 20 is built on themes very dear to Ludwika Chopin, especially those from the Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21. Nocturne No. 20 was published only in 1870, more than 20 years after Chopin’s death, and for this reason, it is also known under the name of “Reminiscence.”
I've been so intrigued by classical pieces ever since I was a 16 yo boy till now 21 but never get a chance to touch nor play a classical instrument like violin and piano. But I do play the guitar, the acoustic one, till now. Not that I hate the guitar, but I just feel like these two instruments is just different. I could feel it resonate more with me than the guitar did. Oh I forgot the Cello. That one is on a level of its own. I grew fond of it lately. I like how mature it sounds compared to the two. Ofc the guitar is also nice to me. I can say it's my childhood friend
This is indeed the best version of this sublime piece I have ever heard. Not too fast, not too slow.....just the right tempo not to mention the sensitivity displayed by Mr Pressler......simply perfect
@bellaadamowicz8380 I prefer this version from Pressler
Huge congrats to the worlds quietest audience. Not a cough to be heard.
Yes, I wish the London Proms audience could hear this - they like to claim they’re the best audience in the world
It‘s a german channel but I‘m not sure where it was played
@@mo-chi3344 I think it’s the Schauspielhaus in Berlin where Bernstein conducted Beethoven 9 on Christmas Day 1989.

I am 62 and have played this for 50 years. Admiration for his touch at age 96. Salute et merci
I think he was 92 years old at the time. The best version of this Chopin nocturne I have ever heard.

wonderfully explained, its the synthesis of an extraordinary pianist who didn't stop growing .. a music from the stars ..
Habe gerade die Interpretation einiger jungen Pianisten gehört . Man hört ein anderes Stück😢
The magical but sweet power he held over every soul in that room (and ME!) is testament to both Chopin and Pressler. Wow.
People comment here “so simple but so beautiful”. I tell you, THIS IS NOT SIMPLE. Try learning to play it
Indeed, just because it sounds or looks easy to the eye and ear. This piece is far from easy talk about interpretation, phrasing and feel.
It’s difficult to play it as beautifully as this pianist. It’s not a technical piece, but it’s profoundly moving. I’ve seen kids play this piece, but nearly all get it wrong in terms of emotion.

@@alan5496 actually well said, nice
Well it only took me about a week to learn but it does depend on the pianist

Yes
What is the name of the pianist ?
Music...the highest achievement of mankind...
I keep coming back to this performance. This IS the best version of this nocturne.

So much delicacy and subtlety in the touch of notes expressing feeling, a life experience. Simply gorgeous.
Exceptionnel! Merci
wow the pianist's touch and the tone of that piano is just perfect
Goodness, sitting here crying at the end and don't know why even though I do. I play this piece. It's so beautiful.

A beautiful rendition of a Chopin classic, played with a light touch.
A beautiful piece played so beautifully,,,when I’m sad and lonely I listen to this-and then I’m more sad and lonely 😔
😂 that’s true x2
Wow. The sensitivity and delicacy of this performance is amazing. This version and Szpilman's version are the top for me.
The definitive version for me. I keep returning to it to cleanse my palate , so to speak.
Most epic musical piece ever
I feel like I'm drowning and my breathing slowing down, how he can do this with this simplicity?

Astounding
Merci 💐
Not so difficult to learn, but to get the clarity, the tempo and dynamics right? Takes patience, lots of practice and love.
Wonderfully played. ❤
When the joy vanishes we all come to the same place or the same music.
Beautiful. Beautiful. I could find just 2 words to describe how I feel. Music that comes from somewhere within.
