Ima looking to start making my first violin, but I’m not entirely sure where to get a mold thingy (for some reason it’s name scapes me) to attack the ribs to while forming them?
Hello Captain Nelf, thank you for your message. Normally, violin makers make the mould/mold themselves. To do so, you need a scale 1:1 plan of an existing violin, from which you can derive the shape of the mould. Otherwise, you could design your violin model yourself (no need for an existing plan than), and design the mould accordingly. Good luck with making your first instrument! (PS: a good book to start with is "The art of violin making" by Johnson and Courtnall)
