Jail works wonders. I knew a guy exactly like this about 20 years ago in the neighborhood and the cops kept arresting him (vandalism, petty theft, drunk in public, the usual) but when he didn't want to get help, they started giving him 6 months in jail. After around 5 years of going to jail for 6 months a crack, he finally got tired of jail and actually got clean/sober and a job. Jail works, people eventually get tired of it and get cleaned up. That was 20 years ago when judges wouldn't put up with this nonsense.
This is insane. This guy needs to be removed from the streets. The judge knows exactly what that guy will do again but keeps doing this BS ruling over and over again and guys out again and again. Recall the judge and anyone like him.
I think we need court-ordered sentences to secured mental health institutions that increase in length upon every reoffense. If they are released and reoffend they go back to the facility for a longer stay. The issue here is largely substance and behavoral issues, it's not really the kind of criminality that prison is meant for. Surely there's a happy medium between complete "deinstitutionalization" (the dismantling of this country's mental health institutions) and having mentally-ill being charged with felony arson?
Are you like, a Dem or GOP guy? It doesn't matter. You're heartless in any case. Really, awful commentary on your fellow American. How do you wake up in the morning, bro?
It can be solved. City Hall simply doesn't want to do it because their donors don't want them to. You know, it's got to do something about not giving up empty properties for the sake of helping people because it's investment for them. City Hall can totally buy up these places -- London Breed had a great idea to do it, but it didn't work because she was talked to by some of these people to cut it out.
We had enough. File class action lawsuits against nonprofits and advocates. They took money from city. A nonprofit that hands out needles should be on the top of the list.
Obviously, we need more mental health facilities where people can stay voluntarily or involuntarily (court-ordered) but CA voters have to agree to pay to build it, staff it, & maintain it.
That's true. Newsom's Care Courts seem like a first step in the direction of involuntary treatment like what you suggest. If the Care Courts are given the authority to impose treatment at mental health facilities then mentally ill people homeless people can be legally assigned treatment. But, I think Californians are loath to mandate treatment. I worry that while liberals are making up their minds about paying for and mandating treatment, the conservative argument will win the day and mentally-ill homeless will be pushed back into the justice system instead which isn't equipped at all to help them.
I know this is not the answer but why do they all come to SF, one of the most expensive places in CA???? How come you don't see this in Santa Barbara? Why not Thousand Oaks?
When I went to UCSB 20 years ago, I head SB put their homeless on buses out of town. Not sure if that's still the case. SF is known for being "nice" to homeless folks.
Yup no consequences in SF , another thing that doesn’t help is all the out of county people using the city’s residents resources and also the immigrants using up all the medi-cal services it’s a shit show out here the gangs have simmered down they found a new cash cow “the homeless”
Many of them had great jobs and then they lose it and then they lose their home. This is how homelessness occurs for a person nearly 99% of the time. People DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE HOMELESS IN SF. That's crazy. You're pretty ignorant. Are you as stupid?
I used to watch the show Intervention. Drug addicts would go through multiple rehabs and fail. This is the same exercise. The amount of money it takes to try to "get someone better" is astronomical and cost ineffective. There are no good solutions. Only less bad ones.
It’s expensive cause they’re trying out Amsterdam ways there… you’re paying for the homeless to stay high. The money goes towards drug paraphernalia and tents, not housing or services cause they don’t wanna go so they can’t make em and then gotta make the streets livable or it’s inhumane… catch 22 or whatever
More than a little vigilante justice needs to be meted out, and if confronted or arrested just claim oneself as “unhoused” and then you’ll be conferred absolute and complete immunity from prosecution.
00:53 its called mething around 1:29 meth/fent numbs the god of heart space and over time killing that god of heart space all together 😢 abandoning all hope
This is a plague due to the abandonment of God in this city and the pride people have of sin, that's why no one has any answers these are spiritual matters not really political ones.

Jailtime for what essentially is a disease..
Thats not good, is it??
Maybe you should spend some time in it. Your comment certainly shows a criminal predilection to hurt your neighbours for simply being poor.
you mean criminal college?

The homeless problem will never be resolved because it is way too profitable. Hundreds of billions of dollars with no accountability.

I’m sure if you pump more grift money into the problem this will definitely not continue to get worse right? 😂
Homeless/Industrial Complex fuels, not helps, the problem.
Why would these grifters want to
lose their cash cow?
@ Of course. Virtue signaling is the ultimate free money scam.
We had enough. File class action lawsuits against nonprofits and advocates. They took money from city. A nonprofit that hands out needles should be on the top of the list.
Shelter or prison. His choice.
How about a permanent place to live, bro? That's neither shelter nor prison. It's better than those two and, most of all, affordable for the city.
Obviously, we need more mental health facilities where people can stay voluntarily or involuntarily (court-ordered) but CA voters have to agree to pay to build it, staff it, & maintain it.

When those with mental health issues don't want treatment what do you do? At some point is involuntary treatment considered?
For anyone who breaks a court order, jail is the proper place.
This is exactly how people get murdered

Because they get all the free stuff in SF. Poor tax payers

Keeping the problem going and pussy foot9ng arojnd the issue and not solving it is keeping the issue going
Belongs in jail! Problem for the public is solved.
Open state hospitals
“Years…decades” had me dying
Someone is making money off all this
If families of adults cannot force a someone into treatment, how can the city or the courts?
Are you telling me that the courts are doing things over and over again and expecting different results😮

in some countries this will not happen... so why is this happening in the greatest country on earth... well at least that is what we claim?
Sick of the mental health excuse. These people are adults not children
How can you help the mental illness? Is the city going to force them to get help? It seems that they will keep coming back no mater what.

We need to be more aware of our judges during elections. We have some very progressive judges that are pretty much worthless to the public
Thank you Ronald Reagan
Excellent!
Are the Democrat politicians still providing syringes for drug addicts in San Francisco
Daniel Lurie promises to fix this come 2025.

TRUMP NEEDS TO FIRE THESE JUDGES - HOPEFULLY ELON TALKS TO HIM!!!!

He’s not a fucking dictator so so he can’t remove them from the bench. You want a dictator.
More funding 😮more homeless. Don’t work.

It’s not just the city it’s the entire state

Humble suggestion: start an NGO led, run & funded by the surrounding communities. 🙏🏼
Love one another as I have loved you ~ Jesus Christ
When Xi Jimping came to SF, Newsom resolved the homelessness problem in 48hs. 😊
Making commiting great again.
