- You probably know their names and work, but you might not know the stories of their personal lives. They're impressionists, artists who worked during the 19th-century art movement that started with a group of Paris painters who faced stiff opposition from the conventional art world. In this series, art writer Waldemar Januszczak explores the back stories and works of four of the movement's most influential painters: Pissarro, Monet, Renoir and Bazille. To get a complete picture, Januszczak visits the cities and towns where the men lived and from which they drew their inspirations.

I fell asleep and woke up to this
Same. Now watching the lot😀
real talk. I was a little scared when I woke up, he's awful close to the camera 🥲
Me too 😂
Same this was great

This guy was born to do this. Love the eccentric narration and humor. I could watch these all day.
I do watch them all day
Waldemar is my favorite thing on the internet. What a great presenter! 🧑🏼🎨
Vertel mij wat ☹️
@@joseffinat966 pomooooo thanks thanks 🙏🏽 o
he's not 'on the internet', this is a BBC show., you now, from television
Hear hear!!!

Waldemar's story telling videos are among the best on the internet. I can't get enough of his enthusiastic, brilliant, insightful, and engaging presentations.
Yes, too bad there are not many interesting teachers in school like him. I depend on these videos to teach my son what they are lacking in public school.
Yes he’s truly engaging and has quite a wonderful personality!
YES! Over 3 hours of storytelling by Waldemar. YAY!
Yes it made my cleaning the apartment a lot more palatable
good word choice. Storytelling b/c this is BS history given to "us" the common people to keep us in the dark age..
YAY Indeed!!!
Does anyone know the beginning song!!!!!!?,please tell me

The world would be a better place with more educators like Waldemar in it.
Ja dat zou het zijn ik weet dat hij een mooi karakter bezit ,fantasievolle presentatie geeft ,een mooie buitenbeentje 🦵
@Adam Lane. I couldn't agree more. As much as I positively ADORE All Things Artistic, when I was in college, my Art History Class-the first class of the day-was where I caught up with lost sleep. If Waldemar had been my Prof I would have caught up with sleep in my Social Sciences nod. Uhm.. ..class.....
I agree. It would have much more compassion and honesty, as well as knowledge. Plus, let's face it; waldemar turns me on.
i like him but he is incorrect sometimes
@@JC-vg5gl" Incorrect" in facts? Or in artistic opinion, which is a field wide-open to individual interpretation, depending upon one's personal taste, political leanings. If in facts, I'm curious....WHAT facts?
Waldemar delivers a brilliant balance of informative whilst engaging and adds just the perfect touch of humour without compromising on the tone of the documentary
I think he sounds, looks and walks like shit. I can’t stand him as his energy a hideous and ruins any art or deteriorates any art into supposed art that his family of cousin breeders who claim to be jew-ish too. I think any decent looking person minus a hunchback from greedy first cousin parents would be better than him!!!
Yes...he's like poetry in motion!
No one can waddle around the art world like Waldemar! Keep it up!
Now that's a rather unkind thing to say.
@@veritas6335 Oh now, lighten up. He works at his stage presence with a positive zeal.
@@brianjohnson8918 exactly, I bet he laughed out loud if he saw your comment. He's pretty cool!
@Fanny Fatface said fanny fatface.
I love you Waldemar, so good at explaining, and perspective with a bit of cheeky humor. So smart without sounding preachy. One of my absolute favorite lines of his, out of thousands (and I've watched almost all. ) Was his line about the goths, not the historical goths but the sad imos, the ones dressed in all black, and usually covered in tattoos, he said something like, I think they just need a hug. 🤗🤗. I feel the same about allot of the people in the world today. And especially those who do the body art tattoos etc..(cut and paste pop culture (imo) on the skin for some kind of self expressing need for self esteem, trying so hard to be cool and unique but really just following a trend) .....more hugs more art, more intelligent and cheeky perspectives and please more Waldemar!
This documentary is way more valuable than books
Agreed!
I get so excited when I see Waldemar anyway, but over three hours!?!! I’m over the moon!!
These were already posted as separate episodes. They’ve been on RUclips for a while now.

Taken collectively, this series on impressionist art by Waldemar is a true masterpiece. The way in which he brings these artists and that time period and their art to life is truly a joy to behold. Anyone remotely interested in art and more specifically impressionist art needs to check this out. So well done.
Totally the best and the way he leads up to a particular fact like why is he out there digging with a shovel in the forest? Oh, it’s because they wanted to lower their canvases into the ground, to a height that they could paint. What?!?! Why didn’t they use the ladder?
Waldemar is the eeal deal. A pleasure to listen to. The way that he connects the art to what was happening culturally, to history, and to product development is fantastic.
For anyone wondering, the rather excellent tune at the start is called, 70 Million by Hold Your Horses.
Thank you. Was just searching for that.
Do you know the name of the French song playing at the 3:32 mark, thanks

Have seen all four docu’s before, but had to watch it again… best art-storyteller in the world!! Most wonderful!!
Great artists, great host, great documentary! This is a recipe for perfection, imho.
I love hearing about the artists lives before they became the artists we know. It's all so very fascinating! Who knew there were "starving artists" who were filthy rich? Nearly 4 hours of this straight is wonderful, too. I'd rather not spend my time hunting for things to watch, so I love long documentaries.
Another hit @Perspective Thank you.
Well said ,
What a joy to watch these documentaries. This guy is a genius!
This man is just brilliant, full stop. He focuses on the human aspect of the painting, not the technical one, which makes it so enjoyable to watch.
@ 60 years of age watching this with my 8 year old son we are both impressed . Well done.
I never realized how much I enjoy art, but mostly the history lessons. I love this series, thank you!
I feel I learn more from an hour or two of listening to Waldemar than I got from a year or two in art school.
I almost spit out my coffee when I heard Valdimar say, "...and his Antonio Banderas hair." Hysterical. Well done! Bravo! 💙💜🤎
Well he was handsome when he was young
I never seen him in younger days
I always seen him as a older man
Such a grand documentary on one of the greatest times in art...
Besides being the best art history videos ever produced, and I’ve watched many over the years, entertaining and your humor makes it so much fun. Please don’t ever stop! How in the world were you able to do that great intro? Perfection! Thank you so much!
I would love a show on the watercolorist. There were plenty and as a watercolorist myself I'd love to see one.
I love these documentaries. There is always something more to look at with the Impressionists and their story.
Wonderful Waldemar 😍 What an absolute joy . I don’t pretend to know much about art , but I was so enthralled by this wonderful series. The humour, the music…perfect. Thank you for this ❤️
I just discovered your video last night, and I was instantly ENTHRALLED. The way you so fully described these various painters was so marvelously entertaining... more like a trip back into time, or a wonderful waking meditation. This is truly enlightened film making my friend, a vision fully realized. THANK YOU.
At age 13 I fell in love at first sight with an art print of Monet’s “The Poppy Field Near Argenteuil”, and began reading about the French Impressionists. I was also learning to draw. Years later I taught myself to paint. To this day my favorites are Monet and Renoir.
I’d love to learn to paint!!! Any advice for someone getting into it?
@@chasenom5880Buy some painting stuff and get into it .
Have a go !
Thank you, Waldemar! Your videos are informative and so much fun to watch. I always learn so much from you and the people who contribute to your shows. Thank you so much!
Really passionate art documentaries that I enjoy to watch again and again. I take them in minor bits 😀❤️
Waldemr, How fun you make these videos of looking at artists work. Plus your story telling is wonderful. Thank you.❤️The impressionist are magnificent.
THANK YOU for creating a channel with so much beautiful art and coupling it with an indepth historical look at the who's/why's/when's and where's. fantastic channel!!!!
How much does it cost to subscribe
What a labour of love this must have been to make. The most comprehensive film about Impressionism out there. Should be required watching for all students of art.
This was very informative and extremely entertaining. Waldemar is the tour guide of art and makes you want to take every trip with him that you can go on. This is my first trip and I am looking forward to another one already.
I LOVE how he poses real people in various positions from Degas’ art, and casually walks by them sometimes, or points out certain aspects at other points. It’s so immediate.
I totally agree, I felt like I knew very little before Waldemar, I've never had the opportunity in life to even go to an art gallery, (I'm not totally ignorant to art or understanding and interpreting it nor enjoying it though), he brings them into a light you've never seen before and you get a real sense of the art and artists and the times when they lived. Thank you Waldemar you have a gift for educating and expressive storytelling thats made art such a beautiful experience.
What a marvelous series on the Impressionists! Fantastic art history lecture in the BEST way ever! Thank YOU!
Thank You Waldemar. You visit my bucket list locations. I got in an accident that left me paralyzed so all of it is moved to the “if” column. Now I get everything on my television. Thank You for stunning content.
Just discovered Waldemar and his videos! Fantastic treasure!
Thank you , thank you for sharing your gift with us! Love the humor:))))
IMO Impressionist Artist brought life to art & having it on chocolate boxes etc keeps it alive today. It got me interested in travel many years ago, it was amazing to be where they were once. Thankyou Val’ fantastic as usual
I always return to this (the individual episodes, or this compiled one), as it has become so soothing for me to watch and listen to. Thank you so much for producing these documentaries.
This was such a great gateway into the world of Impressionism, Waldemar truly makes you fall in love with the works. This video was an excellent way for my family to get into art and enjoy it. Please make more videos!
I shall be forever grateful for you and this RUclips channel ❤️! I love listening to your take on the old, and some of our newer, true Master's in the world of art! I always find myself agreeing with your assessments, and shall be forever grateful to look upon these great works with a new, and fresh understanding at what I'm truly seeing. As a person with a Master's degree in Medieval European History, what you describe, absolutely rings true in my mind.
Very Respectfully,
Lady Anne ^^ö^^ (Jessica M. Kandal, Ph.D.)
uh, you realize this isnt 'their take' on anything, its an old BBC documentary they just stole and posted. Right? Instead of watching RUclips chanells you should just watch tv. This show is over 13 years old surprised you only found it on youtube. It was on tv right up to 6 months ago
Goodness me, Lady PhD, Master's what?
What a clever girl.
LOVE this -- a fascinating, in-depth, on-site exploration of our beloved Impressionists by an endlessly erudite and witty Waldemar Januszczak. Bookmarking AND saving this. Thank you for all your hard work, Waldemar!
I've always loved art history and Waldemar is so knowledgeable, and so likable. He does such a great job!
Those Cassat character studies really do hit you right between the eyes. I'd never seen them before, only the famous mother and child painting. They're bloody amazing.
This is why i subscribed to Perspective. This man makes me feel like i am with all these artists and brings them to life.
I love all the background you give about the artists' lives. Thank you for another interesting documentary.
I kept watching Waldemar's documentaries. They are so compelling and brings you to each artist's head and emotions in a very interesting way.
Truly appreciate the combining the video series!! I love just watching everything in order all way through! Art history is something I should have pursued. Are there any text books that you can recommend??
Yes! I also love to watch them in order..
I would recomend "Curious George"
A big thank you to the producer of this documentary. This is a really fascinating and educational documentary. One of the best I have seen in my life time thus far.
I watched his documentaries over and over....there are incredible!!! Keep it up...please
What a treat! Thank you.
Fantastic from start to finish!
His narrative is fabulous . His in dept knowledge is the most informative I’ve ever enjoyed. I watch him over and over!
Waldemar is such an engaging story teller- brings great art to life with humour and astonishing knowledge. My most favourite art historian ever. Children who aren’t interested in Art would be entertained and educated if this was shown in schools.
I absolutely LOVE Waldemar. I keep waiting for more and more from him!
I watched to Story of The Baroque and thought THAT was my favorite WALDEMAR PRESENTATION. Then The Story Of The Rococo. THEN THE RENAISSANCE PRESENTATIONS. AMERICAN ART....
EACH AND EVERY PRESENTATION WITH WALDEMAR.
EVERY SINGLE ART PRESENTATION BY WALDEMAR
IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE.
I'm so happy I found this channel again. I had watched so many of the episodes (binged them)! This is an awesome channel! The information is amazing!
Unbelievably brilliant. What a great teacher/historian
Don't know much about art - but glued to Waldemar for 3 hours hypnotized and enraptured.🙂🙂😍
Apart from Walderma ‘s passion for his subject, he is sooo funny
omg I was hooked from the beginning. I LOVE his enthusiasm!
really enjoyed this "deep dive'. Beyond the artists and their muses but also the equipment they used and why there were changes at that time, geographic influences.
Just watched all of it in one hit. Easily my favorite art documentary ever. Thank you Waldermar
Hello from Uruguay, I have been watching videos from this channel since last year and they are amazing. I love Waldemar's way of explaining art. Anyone else from Uruguay who has been watching them?
"...preserved in a very sunny ice-cube."
Bravo yet again Waldemar. Thank you for being you...
I never get tired of watching these!
Waldemar is fantastic, fabulous. Through him impressionist art lives! Talk about an enormous set of cojones!!
Perhaps the origan of the idiosyncratic walk
I didn't care for Waldemar initially, but the algorithm kept pushing him at me for some reason, and he really grew on me. I never really cared for impressionism, but his deeply interested and personal storytelling changed my view. I've come to really savor his episodes, perhaps especially those on subjects I care the least about.
Waldemar should put all this information chronologically in a book, pictures, and all, and sell it, I would definitely buy ❤
And Waldemar unleashed The Impressionists! THANKS SO MUCH!
Thank you for replying to my comment on another video where I asked how to pronounce Januszczak phonetically. Perspectives spelled it out for me and I've bee practicing. I'm still having trouble. But nearly got it. Thank you again. I love ARTTTT !
I've FOUND YOU AGAIN, doing a wide array of adventurous documentaries; all of which I LEARN SOMETHING NEW!
Thank you Mr. Waldemar
Five likes 👍👍👍👍👍
His videos are so well made. I’m no expert, but all of the different shots (like with the pig, carrying the canvas, narrating from the boat on the Seine, etc) are absolutely incredible.
About 20 years ago my mother (now deceased) audited an Ari History class on Impressionest artists at Penn State Uiniversity, near her home. She did this to enhance her appreciation of an upcoming vacation in Paris. I accompanied her on that trip and we spent a good deal of time at the Musée d'Orsay, studying many of those artists and their paintings. Thanks to my second-hand educaion I still remember them in vivid detail. Thank you for renewing my education, and my time in Paris with Mother.
love this series and this guy is great love the way he describes "faffing about for years "
Wow. I woke up at 430 am with this playing on my iPhone and I’ve been transfixed since. The fascinating commentary, matched with visitation to the actual places these paintings were done, and the sweeping and dramatic piano playing, make this a masterpiece of its own. I want to re-watch the entire thing now. Amazing and well done.
Brilliant storytelling! Thank you so much! Well done!
Sir, this was a joy to watch this documentary. It is extremely successful in transmitting the Impressionist movement. I'm in art school and just covered Impressionism, you provided a whole lot of information that is crucial. Great job in this documentary, I saw the whole thing on one sitting while doing homework. The subtle moments of comedy were good as well.
I love this art documentary. I love all your shows. I gain so much knowledge and your presentation is superb!
A brilliant show, with an unhinged (but still excellent) presenter. Waldemar is the man.
Almost 4 hours gone quickly
Very interesting ,funny ,and colourful
I love Impressionists ,and when Mister Waldemar talking its wonderful
Brilliant - so looking forward to watching this with a few wines later
I'm loving the earthy humorous interpretation.
One of the best in all the series. Thanks. 80 year old artist and history, art history buff...you still manage to add to my knowledge.
Thank you. That was an impressive experience and I appreciated every moment of it. I always like your videos but I believe that this is my favorite to date! Please keep 🙏 up your hard work, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this.

What a joy these documentaries are. Thank you so much.
I love you Waldemar Januszczak ❤😍😅! The best series about impressionists (including books) ever.
Love watching documentaries like this.
Always great. This is the longest most fulfilling art video I have experienced. Thx thx so much for that hard work
Binge watching at its best. Thanks Waldy!
I love your shows. What great knowledge. You bring it all to life. Thank you
You make the arts come alive as no other can. I found myself saying "the light" an unreasonable amount of times.
This is my first discovery of Waldemar, and I am hooked. I painted a series on Monet's waterlilies in pastel, and was pleased to see it featured in one segment. The softness of the look and pure color in the pigment is unmatched in any other medium. I will continue to follow him.
Thank you, Waldemar! Love your films! You are so engaging, and your storytelling is so enjoyable. Wonderful to learn all about art! I can't seem to stop watching!
You're awesome to have patiently delve and analyze to the dot and details, of the works of the Impressionist painters of the bygone century and era and the emotion you squeezed from everyone one of them THAT MADE ME MISTY EYED, on how lonely and isolated their lives while they produced the most beautiful yet puzzling art works in their lifetime and period. While we in this century do things in an almost instantaneous manner coz we do not have the luxury of time to spare. Thank you for sharing your beautiful mind to us. I learned a lot. More of these Perspective if you have time. Kudos!
Yes....yay! Saturday afternoon cleaning my home office... thankful for this in the background!
