    So do the lights stay on until the end of the 8th day, or do you blow them off at a certain point each day?

    Still not 100% clear. On the first night is the shamish and the far right candle lit?

    • @waynedarrenberger
      @waynedarrenberger 8 дней назад

      Yes, you light the Shamish first the use it to light the first candle (on the far right).

  • @Tony-rf1vo
    @Tony-rf1vo 3 года назад

    What about the other side?
    Always from the end to the centre?
    No YT video shows that

    • @malkagottesman5772
      @malkagottesman5772 3 года назад

      Always put the lights in from the right side going to the left. So, on the 5th night, the 5th candle is placed in the 5th spot from the right and is lit first. Then the 4th candle and so on.

      I don’t want to use candles and have no outlet where I place my Menorah on a window sill so I bought a battery menorah. When I push the button the shamash and one ‘rod’ (the one of the right) light up; with each successive press another rod lights up etc. so it’s right to left for me but from the street it looks left to right. Tbh, I’m still not sure that’s the correct way.

    Excuse me, you do not light the Shamash first, and it is not used to light the other candles. For you to light the Shamash first and then saying the Bracha, you are actually saying the Bracha on the Shamash. The Shamash should be lit last after lighting each candle. Shavuah tov

    • @gedaliakauffman4261

      The Ashkenazi custom is to light the shamash before the brachos are recited, say the brachos and then use the shamash to kindle the Chanukah lights, and then to finish by placing the shamash in the menorah - as shown in the video. You are describing the main Sephardic custom, which is to place the shamash on the menorah beforehand, use a different light to light the Chanukah lights and then light the shamash at the end. In either case, the bracha is not being said on the shamash. Each person should follow their custom.
