  • Transportation In Planaria:
Planaria is a triploblastic animal. It is among the largest animals, which do not possess special transport system.
It is interesting how this complex triploblastic animal manages its transportation without special transport system.
Following are some of the reasons by which the planaria carry out its transportation without transport system.
Flat Body: The body of planaria is flat, and provides greater surface, area for the exchange of materials, between the body and the environment.
Acoelomate: Planaria is acoelornate i.e. there is no body cavity and the mesodermal layer or mesenchyme is composed of loosely packed cells between ectoderm and endoderm.
Whatever materials, such as O2 diffuse in the ectoderm and also passed to mesoderm cells and then diffuse into endoderm cells.
For the removal of wastes the same route is reversed.
Branches of Caecum: Intestinal caecae reach near almost every cell of the body and digested food is provided to the cells by diffusion.
The endoderm cells, can also acquire water dissolved minerals, and to some extent O2 and remove wastes into the gut.
