Tesla Opens its Superchargers and Weird MWC Gadgets?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 авг 2024
- This week Tesla opened up a few of its chargers to non-Tesla EV's so, of course, Marques had to test it out. He tells Andrew and David all about his trip to the charger before digging into some of the weirdest tech we're seeing out of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. They debate whether any of these features will find their way into real products before talking about a few random news pieces from the week.

Once again, I am convinced that you guys are at peak content when you are "off the rails"
Due to peers over smartness. Marcus's IQ is growing down. 😟
It’s kinda like the WAN show. We watch for the conversation, not for the information.
Agreed, super fun to hear them discuss random things
Correction, "Off the bun"
same with Lew Later (unbox therapy podcast)
Loved David's reaction when "He just remembered" about being yawing on camera 😁
I'm yawning after seeing him
wonder why he cares about him yawning
@@Mikivli yeh that is a bit of a strict, empathy lacking work environment. He's a human being and sat Infront of a camera for like 2 hours, and they're making a casual podcast FFS.
@@Emira_75 lol it's not that deep. It's a podcast viewed by thousands. You can be a bit more professional. Similar to chewing with your mouth open/loudly. You wouldn't do that on a podcast either would you?
Ya it’s a bit rude and unprofessional…
Thanks for the mentions, Marques! (not Markees)🤦♂
Lolol others have done worse 👍🏾
@@iamrisko The Verge actually made my mispronunciation the headline of their post on this. LOL
@@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney lolol wow ok
Thanks for all of the B-roll during this episode. As in, showing clips of the Tesla chargers, new phones, Google Keep footage, etc.
1 hour of WVFRM Podcast is quickly becoming shorter for me😂 I love this podcast
Let me guess.... You've been spoiled by Linus' 4-hour WAN Shows?
@@ty_mason99 not yet
I love how Andrew and David team together throughout the podcasts to make everything more fun 😁
Andrew, David and The Shirt were just vibing on the outro. 😂
Funny how memory and association works. I immediately got the Nokia sound, and my brain played the whole jingle in repeat for the rest of the day. It was excruciating to watch this part of the podcast!
same! I instantly thought of my first phone an old Nokia brick haha
At the time of trivia answers, the second question about sound, I was literally screaming Intel intel ... How does Marques not know!!! :)
I feel like the superchargers making EV owners converse is a positive thing 😂
I'm from Brazil and have been watching Marques videos since his pre college years and I must say that seeing/hearing David addressing the "rola" issue was completely unexpected and a pure gold moment as well. BTW he's absolutely right: "rola" does mean a well known vulgar way of referring male private parts (like the D part of Moby D.... in the US) - and there's plenty intended puns with Motorola brand name around here. If they launched a "Rola Phone" in Brazil its marketing pieces would probably be banned and people would LOL A LOT!
doesnt it mean dove?
@@ryanxamp Well, yes... and no. In its strict meaning "rola" is indeed the word for a bird which is a variation of a dove ("pomba" in portuguese), also known as rola-dove ("pomba-rola" in portuguese). The thing is the vulgar meaning of rola is widely spread, in such a way that even when people want to refer the bird, in several circunstances they try to avoid the word. You may see (and laugh) for yourself by watching this sketch from the biggest Brazilian comedy channel (subtitles in English available): ruclips.net/video/h1A9Kc5iNkQ/видео.html
@@brunops1 haha thank you
Rola is also a bird in Portuguese from portugal
@Rafael Fernandes As I'm also a Portuguese citizen (dual citizenship Brazil and Portugal) I acknowledge that in Portuguese from Portugal (the original Portuguese) "rola" designates the same bird, as well. Abraços luso-brasileiros.
Can you guys put timestamps in the description for things we need to WATCH for podcast listeners? I have always listened to your podcasts while doing something else and when I watched today's podcast, it was a better experience. I would have missed things like David's shirt, tesla chargers' visuals, Google Keep footage etc. Now I wonder how much I have missed already lol
Good point! I'm actually "watching" it but mostly have the phone or laptop lying around somewhere while doing other things. I'd love a little inconspicuous jingle indicating that there is something on the screen that is talked about.
@@truefunghi9351 ooh that’s a good idea
I told my friends that I was watching this tech podcast by MKBHD, and they told me they don't know much about tech. I told them it's fine though because they end up talking about Cholula and mung beans half the time 😂. Now, this whole hotdogs and hamburger bun tangent just confirmed this.
Edit: and I'm pretty sure none of them knows what a Mung bean is yet 😂
i like how it visits the previous, the possibly upcoming, and current tech + the team is complete. definitely one of my weekly must listen. keep it up
Oh c’mon how did you not recognize the 3rd portion of the Nokia jingle at first listen.
Edit: Finally got to the quiz portion. I’m shocked that they didn’t get T-mobile given Marques is using their cell service.
I got physically angry at that. lol. That jingle is childhood memories.
I was genuinely amazed of how they didn't get it, that emotionally and physically hurt me. Even when it was revealed they did weren't shocked.
More audio rounds please! These are the best!
Now use the sound that Ellis was making for rolling screens with the main channels new intro. That would be peak of perfection. xD
Tesla already mentioned in investors day that v4 chargers will have longer cables for this reason.
Its so funny that I knew about the Nokia sound immediately, but I didn't even know anything about the other ones, that it really got me thinking. I think this is because of the backgrounds that we grew up in, I grew up in Africa (Nigeria), where the phone that most people could afford then and used for the longest time possible, until the phone just gave up or it was passed down unto we, the kids, was the Nokia 3310 and its likes, so growing up here, you tend to hear that ringtone for the longest time ever that it's hard to forget. Unlike growing up in a country like the US where the economic situation is much better and debt is much easier to acquire that most people probably only used this phone for a few years and quickly got better phones as soon as they were available.
I chuckled when you described the situation in the US perfectly 🤣
But yeah, it's especially apparently now when mainline phones are updated every year, with middle- to lower-end phones are updated when the company sees it fit (which is usually every other year or so), and the fight to keeping up with the latest trends never end.
I was so sure they were talking sarcastically the whole time when they didn't recognize the Nokia theme. It was so familiar to me, altough I am from Finland so I might have some home ground advantage here :D.
I don't listen/watch podcasts but I am really enjoying your podcasts. I look forward to each new video while binge watching past videos I have missed. These podcasts are well thought out and engaging. I enjoy everyone's humor, the trivia and how you guys interact with each other. It really is a great format. I have no doubt this channel will continue to grow steadily and as Marques says "We'll see how this goes.". Thank you Marques, Andrew, David, Adam and Ellis for the great content. Take care
As an owner of the DualUp, it's the BEST monitor that I've used in a long time. I absolutely ADORE it!
I love the shape and features, but it's hard to justify the price at that resolution.
Marques, send your super charger review to Zac and Jesse from the Now You Know channel, they have a whole segment on just supercharger reviews sent in by folks from all over. Your perspective charging an R1 and as a tech RUclipsr would be invaluable and the ultimate crossover
Thanks for introducing me to the over the horizon band edition, it's beautiful.
Always look forward to these! Have a good weekend everyone.
I love these podcasts! So happy you did the start up sounds. I definitely thought t-mobile was Cingular
im glad we’re seeing david more he really brings a different vibe to the podcast. i think we should have an episode where you guys talk like a conversation type podcast not about tech maybe a bonus episode because the spots in the hasan minhaj and hot ones episodes where the personalities really glow are so good.
V3 everyone does not get full power! They share the load site wide instead of across 2 chargers. Learned this from watching Out of Spec btw. Good channel for charging. The way he explained it is, he went to a crowded super charger and was getting partial power. As users disconnected his power went up. Once two others were off he had Max power for the battery level he was at. So not bad.
Another top tier episode. Y'all being killing it so far!
That live remix at the end was dope
" 'Will keep an eye on that' next episode" 😅 Awesome synergy.
Sorry couldn’t wait for podcast to be over because Ellis that was some real skills about the Moto sound. And really enjoyed seeing MKB ride nice Color.Always enjoy watching guys.✌️
Feel good knowing I actually knew all the sounds! And first 2 immediately!
Don't look if you don't want trivia spoilers:
I thought Cingular too before the sound was even over!!! Weirdly glad to know I'm in the same camp as the hosts though haha
1:14:48 - Marques' shocked look... hahaha!!! Classic!! 🙂
Google Keep does have notification settings. I mostly use it for my grocery list tho. For reminders/to do I just set alarms like Andrew 😂
Cool! Thanks for sharing it. ✌️
That Over the Horizon remix is by far one of the best they've done, I was hoping that was what Ellis would play when he brought that up 😆
That vertical laptop could work for full screen video editing+ timeline and stuff or making vertical content, could be excellent for reading possibly as well. More space is always welcome
The Microsoft Link Phone sounds very similar to Intel Unison on Windows/iOS. A comparison between the two would be really cool!
Love the weekly episodes 🤙🏾
Man, the tune that they played at the end sounded just like Dirty loops, haha
Tesla did mentioned during investor day that the new 4th-gen Superchargers have a longer cable to easily reach the charge ports of different vehicles. They've just started installing them in Europe first.
I just commented about this before seeing your comment.
That version of Over the Horizon sent me down a beautiful rabbit hole of the insane amount of remixes that song has.
Great episode! I got mixed up on that first sound as well. I for sure thought it was At&T! Also that Samsung remix at the end straight up sounds like background music for a early 2000's or 90's fighting game. lol
Great of you to give State of Charge channel a shout-out, Tom is the best in the business when it comes to EV charging and deserves every new sub he gets
I am very appreciative. 😀
Since the EV chargers should be on the Internet software monitoring can be done to tell the status of each and every charger 7x24.
I believe that is part of the requirement for the federal funding.
Please make a soundboard sound with that "We'll see how it goes" hahaha
Haha the discussion of hot dogs and hamburgers was hilarious
I wonder if our hosts hear much their own podcast intro/outro - if not it'll be hilarious to put as a ringtone quiz for something like April 1st 😂
That Dirty Loops version of "Over The Horizon" is legendary.
I could hear the "Hand Holding" in that NOKIA SOUND from sooo far away, NOKIA
I got all the sounds. I am DEEPLY surprised so many were missed
Appreciate the Haas tshirt as the f1 season is starting 👌🏼👌🏼
David yawning was the best moment 😂
Great episode, I like it
Concepts are fun. Great chat guys.
We must’ve all jumped from another timeline, because I swear that was Cingular wireless sound in the first trivia question.
David: Explains his shirt in every way possible except just saying “it’s a tie dye shirt”. Got the T-Mobile sound, for sure thought 2 was Dell/Gateway, had no idea on 3 until the 8-bit. Shoutout to the Dirty Loops clip!!!
I'm one of those commenters... "HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW THE FIRST SOUND WAS ?!?!?!?!" and "IT'S MARQUES!!!!!"
I needed Ellis' hint for the last one, but I shouted the answer so loud as soon as I heard it. Lolol
YES DAVID With the Personal Carbon Footprint knowledge LOVE IT More people need to know
'Buns on top of each vs Buns spreading out' Oh David!😁
Ok, I was able to get those first two sounds but that third one, I knew it but could not recall. Nokia... It has been a long time since my 3390, and 3650 days. Wow, blast from the past with that one. Great podcast!
The Motorola Rizer was my first phone back in 5th grade I got it because it was cheaper than the razor but closer than anything else. It was my only reason to plead to my mom that it was the phone for me. It was actually really good and the effect then was nice cause it had a switch blade feel to it and sliding a call open was pretty satisfying. The new one doesn’t seem to capture any of that fun.
Listen to the podcast audio only. Really thought David had face paint 😅 when Andrew said it.
OMG! I got one of the trivia questions right
that samsung outro was amazing 😂
Yes you can set reminders on Google keep, with recurring intervals as well
Yeah, I was surprised more people don't know about this.
I freakin love my flip 4. Excited for foldables this year
When companies make their own decision to put the gas cap where ever they want, it's going to be the same thing with EV connector. Since Tesla charging stalls have the only best uptime, it maybe time for companies to change where the connectors are located. It maybe a money issue but this is what happens where there is not standard. Porsche is the only company with two sided connectors which helps themselves out. All other charging station not Tesla have long cables but that comes at a cost when charging.
Now that there is a US charge connector standard, there should be and stand for EV connector side so people will not start getting mad for stupid reasons. Truest that there will be, it always happens.
Great show. This was my first video with this channel.
Who else thought that the first sound of the 2nd trivia question was AT&T?
I love this podcast!
1:15:00 dirty loops x waveform 🤯 never thought that would happen.. they even used this version on some of their phones
ad break timing is a very minor things, most people don't get right so thank you waveform team
1. We appreciate and personally, one of the main reasons I follow you guys is - OFF THE RAILS content. Absolute gold, need MORE of them.
2. Stop trimming content to serve time limits, go on have funn and let us enjoy too!!!!!!!!!!
I have been binging this podcast
Sooooo proud of myself for getting Nokia 🎉
I'm glad they are doing that.
wow lovely colour 😍
I just watched the whole episode no stop 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love the samsung galaxy ringtone live band version at 1:14:35! thanks for sharing or I would have missed this!
The v4 supercharger is supposed to have a longer cable and higher voltage. First installation was spotted in the Europe, I believe the Netherlands.
That polyphonic ringtone 🤌🏾
The v4 supercharger has a longer cable. It should already be somewhere in Europe but haven't seen any picture of it.
Please consider these Segment Ideas : Food trivia, wierd food taste test, new future of tech acc. To you and the team
I didn't know about the Apple clean charging option until Marques video and I checked and saw it was on. Before Marques video I had started noticing at night when I put my iPhone on the charge a notification was showing up just say my iPhone wouldn't start charging until 4:30am sometimes as late as 6am. For now I have left the clean charging on, but my concern is emergencies and I've had a couple where I have to go to the ER in middle of the night, clean charging would mean my phone isn't charged enough for a ER visit that is typically hours long. So maybe Apple should change the clean charging to a trickle charge, basically a slow charge to use less power so the phone is getting charged just not at full speed and it would still limit power consumption from dirty sources.
You could just buy a cheap external battery for emergencies like that.
That needs charging too , but doesn't check the "clean energy" source. You're make the case for just turning off the clean energy option on my iPhone. At least that way only one battery needs charging.
@@DojoOfCool The difference is, you would only have to charge the emergency battery every once in a long time, whereas you charge your phone regularly.
I think they could add a setting/feature where if you have an alarm set for Waking up or something, priority is to get the phone charged.
I knew the Intel and Nokia sounds lol so happy
17:33 - I can see this turn into a shorts or clip... :D Just made me laugh so hard!!!!
"Charge over there please!!!" :D
Google Keep and Google Tasks are oddly still separate apps. Could have been made into one, with reminders and boards. A 3rd part paid Chrome Extension makes Google Task look like Trello - doesn’t really make sense when Google could just default to that view.
I wouldn't be surprised if they kill off both, the UX with Keep is so bad. I still use it A LOT.
The “green bubble” moment when another non-Tesla EV takes up “two spots” at the supercharger
Welp. Just listened to them say the same thing right after I sent this lol
I really liked the electrochromic glass Mclaren back camera concept. Wish they could make the back of phone more elegant now. I hate looking at camera bump.
Correction on v2 superchargers, it’s not always the one next to you and in Canada it’s often not. The the same number different letter. Sometimes it’s the one next to you, sometimes it isn’t.
This is the most laugh I’ve had in the podcast😂
as someone who works at Rivian i love hearing you guys talk about us
Nice shout out! :D :D :D
The sound wasn’t “Singular” that got absorbed, it was VoiceStream, which DID get absorbed by T-Mobile
That was the most fun 🎉 episode 😊😊😊
Superchargers at the Buckeyes in Temple TX are centered in the parking spaces, the cable may also be slightly longer - it a new install perhaps anticipating magic docs
For the clean energy charging feature, the local load balancing authorities have the data as to which kinds of power plants are providing energy to the grid at a point in time, it is a regulated transparent feed of data. Apple must be tapping into that data and optimizing accordingly but if you have a local clean energy like solar panels on your roof or a powerwall that probably isn't being taken into account. Grids don't have that kind of visibility yet...
Those Nokia and Intel tunes were way too easy!
Did anyone else get flash backs to Jurassic park(3) with the Nokia ringtone? It was like I lived through the scene myself.
00:14 Talking about colors, Happy Holi (Festival of colors in India )
40:24 Interesting year for Folding Phones.
