  • Kassim Omar wanted to be heard.
Even after a 2022 shooting left her paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe on her own, she fought to be able to speak and tell her story.
Omar, 29, was a transgender woman and former refugee originally from Somalia. She had lived in the United States and Columbus since 2015.
Omar died from injuries related to the shooting that paralyzed her on Sept. 6, 2024, authorities said.

He says he is a gay man multiple times, not trans.

He is a gay man. This story is missing a lot. The name of the attacker is telling. Sounds like he encountered either one of his countrymen or an individual, possibly an Islamist, for whom being gay would be punishable by death. Poor reporting.

Omg. This poor gay man leaves Solmalia only to be shot by his own people in the US.
Why are parents giving children guns? These parents need to be hauled in!!
