You look so beautiful, I adore your haircut and am obsessed with the dress. I’m going to miss The Queens Christmas message so much. Growing up in Australia 🇦🇺 I have watched every year as long as I can remember.
"Boxing Day" at my house in Connecticut, USA, is a day to stay home and enjoy your presents. Drink hot cocoa or egg nog, do a jigsaw puzzle with my family, listen to Christmas music, AND watch a Harry Potter marathon.
I am as old as QE2's reign... 70 years. I was startled by the beautiful blue LilySilk garment you started the video in. "In my day" (sorry I'm so stuffy), that was worn as an undergarment. So I at first thought "Why is Julie not dressed? Why is she in her slip? Getting racy are we?" 😆 LOL Every Viscountess needs a curmudgeon on hand, right?? It's lovely. 💖
I'm starting a new tradition. I'm planning to call family and friends, as I live far away from them. Those I don't get to on Christmas holiday, I'll try on New Year's Day! God Bless ❤🕊🦁🐑❤🙏✝❤
I am from Germany. Here, we trim our tree set up and later unwrap our presents (after church) on X-Mas eve. People usually get off at 2 p.m. at the latest on the 24th. A lot of people can take off the whole of the 24th as well. The 25th snd 26th are both holidays. On the 24th we usually eat fondue or raqlette or just potato salat and sausages, something which does not need a lot of preparation time. The big X-Mas meal is lunch on the 25th. It's not the same everywhere but a lot of people eat goose and potato dumplings with a dark sauce, as well as red cabbage.
In California, we always let our children select one present from under the tree from relatives or friends, to open on Christmas Eve, after attending the Christmas Eve service at our church. After we returned home from church, the children open the gift they chose, and have hot chocolate and Christmas cookies. We would then watch 'It's a Wonderful Life", read the Christmas story from the Bible, then everyone to sleep until Christmas morning. After the early morning opening of presents on Christmas Day, we would have a giant meal in the early afternoon. In the evening. we loved to drive around to look at all the Christmas lights. Now my boys are adults, and carry on some of these same traditions with their own families. And sometimes, we still are able to gather together from across the miles. Those are very special memories!
I love your show. A person has to be a royal to buy those things. A person like me who only lives on an income of 800 a month can’t afford these. They are beautiful so one can hope and daydream about them.
Are there any good thrift stores in your area. Check them for beautiful cottons, linen, silks etc. I just got the most beautiful blue cashmere sweater for this winter. Learn to recognize and select quality pieces at a fraction of the cost. There is no reason why you shouldn't enjoy the finer things in life. God bless!
I hope you dont look up to them too much. Royalty itself is an absurd concept and always was. Especially, when you consider that for so many centuries in Europe they lived a luxurious lifestyle while "their people" was starving. Wish you a merry Christmas!
My maternal grandmother was British and also living in Canada, we observe Boxing Day. A day for us, spent receiving or visiting friends. Happy Christmas!
Dear Julie, thanks for the info for Lily Silk. I was not acquainted with this brand. I have went through 2 major surgeries, so pleased to see they support Breast Cancer awareness and in browsing their products found several things that fit my particular needs following this difficult time these past few months. I always enjoy your videos and this one was particularly delightful. Best wishes for a lovely holiday season to you and your family.
One odd tradition that started after visiting my grandparents we would be tired getting back to getting back to Pennsylvania my sister and I would open one small present on Christmas Eve have a small glass of water then sleep till morning 😊
This is so interesting! And the room you're in, Julie, is so beautiful, along with your dress. And your holiday dresses. Elegant! Here in the U.S. we're preparing for Thanksgiving, which is next Thursday 🙏❤️
My daughter was born on Boxing day so we switch to birthday celebration 🍰. We went on a cruise in the states when she was little and was asked on stage during a performance for her birthday. When she said Boxing day a lot of Americans in the audience looked confused.
Just love being with family. Preferring Christmas eve and Boxing day to the big day, as always eat too much. Phew. Maybe this year I might try some self control. Have a great time. X
It's hard to go wrong at Harrods. I'm not sure if it's true or an old wives tale but I heard that they had the first escalator in the UK at Harrods and it was so frightening to some of the patrons that they had employees with smelling salts and brandy at each level just in case. But Harrods at Christmas is just a magical place both inside and out.
@Joan In Florida I lived with my parents in the building next to Tattersalls Tavern close to where Knightsbridge and Brompton come together in the 80s and 90s so I spent lots of time in Harrods. I think at one time you could buy practically everything necessary from birth to your coffin at that store. Fun memories.
@Joan In Florida My dad worked for Smith & Wesson and they were bought out in the mid 1980s by a British corporation. So I got to grow up in Dallas, San Antonio and London. It was a corporate flat but you're right it's one heck of a nice neighborhood. It was a five minute walk to Harrods, five minutes to Hyde Park, and about a 5 minute cab or bus ride to the most important restaurant from the 80s - Hard Rock Cafe. It really was a great few years that I got to do this.
"Or...wait for it.." I just had to laugh because I was waiting for the truly American selling statement..."And that's not all." LOL Love watching your channel
Lovely presentation - thank you. We lived internationally when our kids were little - best tradition we learned was 3 presents as that is how many Baby Jesus received (saved us from years of excess when we returned to the US). We shared Thanksgiving traditions and learned about Boxing Day and Dwali - loved living in an international community.
I think the Queens Christmas messege was a part of our Christmas day for years...its going to be quite difficult for the royal family without her. I would love to have a royal Christmas like described in this video. In Australia its usually Christmas eve dinner,Midnight mass than Christmas day breakfast and opening presents ,lunch than probably a movie. The next day Is boxing day and that was picinc at the beach! As for i now live in Italy its very different..its Christmas eve dinner.. a traditional fish dish usually and panettone for desert and a bottle at Midnight then opening gifts.. Christmas morning church or afternoon if you have to be the one that cooks lunch..then Christmas lunch usually antipasto of cold meats and lasagna..pandoro by the fire for desert or Even tiramisù..then Its visoning all your relatives and going house to house. On the new years its the same but lots of Fire crackers and fireworks.
Thanks for posting this! I will be in the UK over Christmas and was literally wondering about this! LOL! Great timing! Thanks for your time to share all of this with us! Blessings!
Dear Lady Montagu, Many thanks for all your informative videos, which are always a joy to watch. In this case, it was also good to hear you refer to Father Christmas, rather than to Santa Claus! With very best wishes from Oxford.
Julie, Loved this video! I never knew the royal family all went out shooting on Boxing Day. The items you modeled from Lily Silk are fabulous and you looked so pretty in them. I particularly liked the cream color skirt, top, and sweater as an ensemble!! Of course, we will all miss our beloved Queen! Love you guys! You are so much fun! Chris, Seattle, WA.
In Australia, we wake early on Christmas Day and have Santa, champagne breakfast of fresh fruits, bacon and eggs and pastries, then it’s play time, outside before the sun is scorching, maybe a trip to the beach with the new beach towels, games etc, home for lunch, mostly cold seafood, cold chicken and beautiful salads we rarely make otherwise. Food coma in the heat of the day. Dinner is left overs. A lot of families host large numbers at lunch or dinner, we usually go back outside in the very late afternoon, drinks with lots of ice, swim in the pool or get on the slip and slides or under sprinklers. Boxing Day is less hectic, a time to relax have more family arrive and eat left overs 4 different ways.
Hello from New Zealand Loved the Royal Christmas celebration Boxing Day here are relaxing at the beach lazy family time shopping and picnics enjoying ham or turkey sandwiches barbecues 😍👌Julie you looked stunning in the gorgeous slip dress and the blouse oooh lalaaa just stunning navy blue suits you💖Christmas with the Queen will be missed I look forward to the King Charles Christmas speech Thankyou another interesting behind the royal scenes Amore💖💖😍😍👌👌🌟🌟
It's kind of like mincemeat pie flavored. At least my grandmother's carrot pudding is, and the store-bought Christmas pudding I've tasted . I love it. I'm the only one in the family that can make it now. Great tradition
As Julie said, outdoor activities, and walking. I lived in Norway for years, and everyone walks everywhere. They often said American's are lazy...and indeed they often are when it comes to regular exercise. And they eat way too much. Regular exercise is very common in Europe in general. They also eat small portions, and throughout the day, rather than large meals. Except for the holidays, when more lavish meal's and dessert's are enjoyed.
Julie, love the clothes you modeled today. I need to get one of the "Yoga for Beginners" book in the $ 5.00 and Below store and get started ! Boxing Day is celebrated in Jamaica and other British West Indian countries. We celebrate the day with children going to fairs, young people at music concerts, all day parties at home and the beach. We continue to visit the friends and family we missed on Christmas Day taking presents and food ( ham, turkey, rice & peas etc.) especially the sorrel drinks and fruit cakes for which the West Indies is famous. In the capital, Kingston, JA, Boxing night was the traditional opening of the theatre season with plays and pantomines etc. Clothes like the beautiful dress you modeled with a beautiful stole (shawl) would be worn by the ladies escorted by the gentlemen. I live in New York since 1969 but I grow nostalgic for the Jamaican Christmas and Boxing Day festivities at that time of year.
I'm with you on the kedgerie. I'm not sure if it's just the fish for breakfast or the curry that I am not on board with. I suppose I'd eat Cantonese fried rice for breakfast...
As far as Christmas cards go Charles might mix a photo with something new a color photo or barrow some sketch art around the photo, oops that’s actually an old idea. Oh well 😂
You look gorgeous in everything 😍 by the way how do you stay so slim. Will you do a little blog on your diet please cos I for one would love to know. Being a certain age group it's hard to keep off the weight no matter how little or how well I eat.
Weight loss isn't about starving yourself. Eating too little will actually eventually have the opposite effect--your metabolism will slow and you will stop losing, and even gain weight. Just eat real food, balanced meals, make sure you eat enough each meal that you don't snack between meals, and get some cardio (lots of walking is great), and lift some weights. Lifting weights is very important, both because muscle burns more calories than fat, and also because we lose muscle mass as we age, which we obviously don't want. :)
I have, among other things, Hashimotos Thyroiditis, and am in menopause, and am 67. My weight is perfect. I eat to live, not live to eat. Max two meals a day, all before 3 pm. Lot's of water, though not an hour before and after meals. Evening walks, free weights. Even with all of my health challenges, my figure/weight are fine. Because I'm determined to keep it that way, and that takes deciding to do what it takes. Age has nothing to do with it at all.
What do they do if a meal is served that they don't like? Do they know beforehand what the menu is in order to have the chef prepare something they prefer? For example, if someone doesn't like seafood, veal, quails eggs, etc? Are they allowed to ask for chicken, etc in exchange?
Hi Julie, ❤️ love your beautiful silk Outfits..stunning.great haircut..your video was lovely..great info..pretty Pretty dressing area..hope Your family rests and all Gets together to do fun Walks on the estate..put Xmas$$into a BIG TIN BUCKET towards repairs and upkeep.. I will be stuck in big box Store as usual..but friends Will call me..would ❤️ love A huge plate of new England lobster xmas day. Yummys...good eats.. Merry Christmas and happy Thanksgiving y'all. Chio bella.-
Hi Julie... Being an American do you celebrate Thanksgiving with your family? Do you come back to the states and celebrate with family? Since for us Christmas season doesn't officially start until Thanksgiving when does the Christmas season start for the British? Is it November 1st when you start putting up lights and singing Christmas songs or December 1st or anytime in between or after.
Enjoyed your video. But, not to be critical, your dress reminds me of a slip I had way back in the day. A slip went underneath a garment. It wasn't a garment.
Or a very comfy pretty Sexy nitegown...yes, Julie Put a cashmere sweater Over the top of the silk outfit, for warmth and coverage..would look great With pearls , for dress up With a stunning shawl of Handmade Italy lace or cashmere over it..remember Julie is ALWAYS in casual clothing On the estate..working, cleaning up leaks..or doing Repairs..so she can't wear Nice party attire..JULIE, sugar-->enjoy dressup..you Looked so pretty.. Me, in my 70s, I really don't Dress up anymore..GOD bless everyone and stay Healthy and happy.do something kind and nice For anyone on a daily basis. Happy Thanksgiving y'all.
I just read that Princess Diana was related to the Montagu's. Her wedding tiara, the Spencer tiara, was actually created for Viscountess of Montagu in the 1700s. Is this the same Montagu family as your husbands?
Right! I'll wager that tradition ended a LONG time ago. Besides.....I heard the RF exchanges silly, humorous gifts since they have all the expensive items one could wish for. Personally, I like the idea of the Gift Game.... buying inexpensive or joke gifts under a certain amount of money, drawing numbers, and you can keep the gift you drew OR take someone else's. The person with the highest number goes last and has the option of any gift in the room. It's all for laughs.... and saves a lot of money too.
What age are children invited to the Hunt? When I was growing up my father belong to the Weston gun club in Connecticut and I was allowed to shoot at clay pigeons.
I thought they opened their gifts at tea on Christmas Eve..children have Santa as all children do…gifts opened on Christmas Eve also meant family has time to get ready and attend church the next morning . Christmas evening is a self serve buffet supper …with staff having the night off to enjoy their dinner
@Joan In Florida Julie clearly said they're arranged on tables Christmas Eve, and opened on Christmas Day after tea. She also said it's how the royal family does it, not the public in general. Re-watch the video.
@@lizbignell7813 Not all European's; however, I lived in Norway for years, and gift's are opened Christmas Eve, and the main dinner takes place then as well. Though they have an interesting number of days of Christmas: known as Little Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, 1st Christmas Day, 2nd Christmas Day. A lot of celebrating.
Hey I think we’re getting a little bit pedantic on this one. I dare say Julie knows exactly what the royal family does for Christmas…given that she is a commentator on the Royals for various Networks. She is in the aristocracy, so again I think she may have the inside track on this one. Having said all that…Joan you obviously know well the German tradition ( it does sound lovely) that however may not be the Royals exact tradition. I wonder if at some point some of these traditions like shooting may change. I don’t see Charles being a big hunter shooter kind of guy. 🤷🏼♀️
The queen Camilla will be doing it this time I bet. The king might a few things but I doubt it. If he makes someone put his toothpaste on his brush then I doubt he will do Christmas
None of that fish flake stuff for me and I would certainly would not join in the shooting. I'll go horseback riding, though, far away from the shooting! (And only if I can ride Western saddle.)
I enjoyed the Queens Christmas messages but I don't really look forward to King Vharles. She had such great conservative messages. My favorite Christmas adventure is driving around to look at the lights, I'd load the kids up and spend a couple hours driving around then home for hot chocolate.
Where I come from we call those silk clothes undergarments and would never think of wearing them in public as it would be inappropriate. Times change, I am aware, but I would have thought aristocracy would be a bit more conservative. IMO. Do enjoy your videos.
*@Erin Eddy:* Julie looked lovely but I thought she was a beautiful nightgown.... not an evening dress. She's so tiny I suppose she can get away with it. Times certainly DO change. I'd bet it would be HEAVEN sleeping in that gown. Btw I love the name Erin. My daughter's name is Erin Elizabeth & she has a friend named Erin Anne. 💖

Thank you so much!!
"Boxing Day" at my house in Connecticut, USA, is a day to stay home and enjoy your presents. Drink hot cocoa or egg nog, do a jigsaw puzzle with my family, listen to Christmas music, AND watch a Harry Potter marathon.
Yaaaas, Harry Potter marathon! 😂❤️❤️
I am as old as QE2's reign... 70 years. I was startled by the beautiful blue LilySilk garment you started the video in. "In my day" (sorry I'm so stuffy), that was worn as an undergarment. Well Lord Luke will certainly you in your dress! You are beautiful!
It all looks like nightware to me!
As long as the Harkles are not there they can remember the QUEEN with LOVE and RESPECT. SHE GOT NEITHER FROM THE HARKELS

_potato salat and sausages_ yep, absolutely this in germany :)
I always enjoy your “peeks behind the curtain” of royal traditions! So fun😊
Prayers your holiday season is merry and bright!🙏🥰🎄
Thank you! You too!

Me too!!

I love kedgeree. Boxing Day in Australia tends to be a casual day of friends and family get together eating Christmas leftovers.
Love your new haircut. It is very becoming.
I'm a 12 yr breast cancer survivor - hope all goes well for you and that every day you feel better, may the difficult days be behind you.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I didn't know Boxing Day was? I am glad it was a day off for the servants from their masters.
Thanks, Julie, for describing the Royal Christmas events. Queen Elizabeth will be missed.
Thank you so much for your insight on the holiday and your "fashion" show! The ivory and dark beige is a beautiful combination.
One odd tradition that started after visiting my grandparents we would be tired getting back to getting back to Pennsylvania my sister and I would open one small present on Christmas Eve have a small glass of water then sleep till morning 😊
Thank you for all the info! Helps a great deal to understand the different traditions.
Glad it was helpful!
Julie, that skirt is phenomenal!!!
We like kedgeree but I’ve never had it for breakfast. I’ll give it a go this Boxing Day in remembrance of the Queen. Happy Christmas
Love your dress 💕 looks great on you
it will be lovely for the new queen to have her family there this year

Maybe we should re-institute a Boxing Day box-giving ritual that ministers to the unhoused.
thanks a lot Julie ! history described by you is always a delicious moment ! Happy Holidays for your family , Happy Christmas 🌲🌹🎁
Happy holidays!

Always love your videos here on American Viscountess and Mapperton Live. 💯🤗
I love my grandfathers kedegeree! But we never had it for breakfast!
It looks like a nightgown, I must say.
I thought the same.
🤣ME TOO! I'd love to sleep in it.
I have never had the traditional Christmas pudding. What’s it like?
Thank you for an insight into the Royals Christmas.
I"m not a fan but many Brits are.
It's kind of like mincemeat pie flavored. At least my grandmother's carrot pudding is, and the store-bought Christmas pudding I've tasted . I love it. I'm the only one in the family that can make it now. Great tradition
Beautiful dress Julie! I hope your and your family have a wonderful Christmas!
Thank you! You too!
Thank you!
Hi Julie, I’m wondering whether you’d be willing to do a Christmas Day at mapperton video by any chance??!! 🎉
I am!
Servants had a box, and on Boxing Day they would go around, like trick or treat, so would suppliers to rich people and they would collect cash
How do they all stay so slender with all that fabulous food??
The portion sizes are much more normal than you would find in say the US.
And I’m sure they don’t eat like that all the time.
Here in the Netherlands December 26th is 2nd Christmas Day :-)
Julie, love the clothes you modeled today. I need to get one of the "Yoga for Beginners" book in the $ 5.00 and Below store and get started ! Soon to be... Happy Thanksgiving !
Are you going to make a wreath making video this holiday season? You look absolutely beautiful. Much love💜🎣
Sure are!
I truly enjoy your videos! Thank you so much! The content is great! ❤️
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the info!
Ah yes your Boxing Day explanation explains why I always got a new festive colored toilet plunger
Oh well 😂
If the Queen started signing cards during the summer, what will happen to the cards she already signed for this year??
You look gorgeous in everything 😍 by the way how do you stay so slim. Will you do a little blog on your diet please cos I for one would love to know. Being a certain age group it's hard to keep off the weight no matter how little or how well I eat.
She eats whole foods, gets lots of steps with her job of running Mapperton, and does yoga every day.

Thank you-

Yes I do!
Julie, choose one of each color. You look stunning. cgzone8
What are the compliment dishes to the turkey at lunch?
Thanks for the info! Sounds fantastic except for the killing of pheasants.....I see no joy in that, especially at Christmas
Enjoyed your video. But, not to be critical, your dress reminds me of a slip I had way back in the day. A slip went underneath a garment. It wasn't a garment.
Or a very comfy pretty
Sexy nitegown...yes, Julie
Put a cashmere sweater
Over the top of the silk outfit, for warmth and coverage..would look great
With pearls , for dress up
With a stunning shawl of
Handmade Italy lace or cashmere over it..remember Julie is ALWAYS in casual clothing
On the estate..working, cleaning up leaks..or doing
Repairs..so she can't wear
Nice party attire..JULIE, sugar-->enjoy dressup..you
Looked so pretty..
Me, in my 70s, I really don't
Dress up anymore..GOD
bless everyone and stay
Healthy and happy.do something kind and nice
For anyone on a daily basis.
Happy Thanksgiving y'all.
That is their business. I am sure it will be sad without the queen.
Wow 900 Christmas card! That's a lot of signing.i think it hard to do 20 😅
if the queen signed first batch on Balmoral in summer to keep up with demand only a small batch will be from Charles this year.
I thot that boxing day had to do with the Boxer rebellion in China...it was the day the defenders were liberated..am I wrong??
Does December 6 st Nicks Day here in American be celebrated in England. .

I just read that Princess Diana was related to the Montagu's. Her wedding tiara, the Spencer tiara, was actually created for Viscountess of Montagu in the 1700s. Is this the same Montagu family as your husbands?
I can’t imagine the Royal family shopping at Harrods any longer…wasn’t owed by the Fyad family?
it was, now belongs to Qatar Holding
for royal shopping: nope, not going to happen anymore ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrods#Royal_warrants
*@Laura Mason:* Lucky you! Sounds like fun.
I thought they opened their gifts at tea on Christmas Eve..children have Santa as all children do…gifts opened on Christmas Eve also meant family has time to get ready and attend church the next morning .
Christmas evening is a self serve buffet supper …with staff having the night off to enjoy their dinner
Not just the Germans, the Swedes do it too as do other Europeans.
Though they have
an interesting number of days of Christmas: known as Little Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, 1st Christmas Day, 2nd Christmas Day. A lot of celebrating.
@Donna Baardsen, perhaps l should have said some other Europeans, sorry.
How would all of the guests know what color the Queen is going to wear.
1. What does the family do with the pheasants they killed?
2. Do you and your family celebrate American Thanksgiving?
They eat them and yes we do every year. My kids favourite holiday!
Omg Julie you are always dressed to the nines
I would agree Erin. Especially being immodest and wearing them without a bra. Disappointed with that decision Julie.
It will be strange listening to the KINGS CHRISTMAS MESSAGE this year !🤔
It will feel a bit strange but I'm sure the message will be heartfelt & uplifting.....as usual.
Sorry, looks like a nightgown.
I have never had kedgeree, I've seen it and it wasn't tempting.
Im surprised you suggest silk , cashmere, etc. I thought you were vegan?
I’m pretty sure I am not a fan of the flaky fish dish.
IM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO CHARLES SPEECH IF IT GOES THE WAY HES BEEN GOING ON ABOUT STUFF HE SHOULDN’T. Oh
