Preacherman is 30 years old, released in 1994. Remember raving to Laurent Garnier dropping this tune into the end of a Scan X track. He then came out of Preacherman by bringing in a remix of Robert Armanis Circus Bells. I was mesmerized. That was 30 years ago when I was 20, carefree, sometimes off my nut but loving life. 30 years goes by in a heartbeat. In a heartbeat I'll be 80. Life's crazy

I recently discovered this track because Kenny Dope sampled the beginning of this track at the beginning of the full version of his famous track "The Bomb" which was on the radio in the 90s (at least the edit was.) It's awesome to go sample hunting for a classic track and find a banging Chicago House track.
A good track is a good track. All the top new dj's today are still playing a lot of really old trax because they are soulful. Take Ben Klock, a top dj these days, hit sets are rooted in old trax because so much of the new techno is lacking in soul, the #1 ingredient to making great techno. That is how the founders envisioned it but that has been lost somehow....
I would say that I wish I was my current age when this was released, but I can now watch this on an iPad in the comfort of my own home. All I can say is this is a great song.
"There's a lot us who claim to be saved, and we're still playing house." [Beat drops] "That's why babies are having babies, playing house." ... "Does not the Bible teach be fruitful and multiply? And we are playing house!" ... "Catch whoever you can, kiss whoever you can, do whatever you wanna do with whoever you can!" [synth goes wild with joy at this] Favorite house set starter! I love the way the synth is tweaked to the words... Funny thing, I like the flip side, Conniption, even better.

Guys, I have a problem. I'm 30. When I was a teenager, growing up in the Chicago area (Lake County to be precise) my closest friend's older brother got both of us in to house, trance, etc.. This track was absolutely huge for us, as I'm sure it has been for many others. Fast forward to today and my friend is basically playing House! He's got yet another chicky living with him and he's beating around the bush / stringing her along for the physical angle.. it doesn't sound like he loves her and that's sad to me. He has no intention of marrying her or making on honest woman out of her, so to speak (starting a family).. It's the exact same thing he did to the last girl before she got tired of it and dumped his ass. It's like he's too lazy to be assertive about what he's after with these women. He just strings them along until they dump him.. like he's too lazy or weak to do the dumping, even though he's clearly ready for it to be over before they are. What do I say to someone who I love as a brother, but who should really know better? This song/track/sermon was once a very important part of his life and it's like he forgot about the message. It's a pretty good message, regardless of a person's religious beliefs, yknow? I think that's what transcends about it.. nonchristians can feel the power of this sermon, because it contains a lot of truth. I pretty much keep my mouth shut about it, because I don't want to wreck such an old friendship.. but sometimes I just want to grab him, shake him and start reciting this sermon until he gets how it correllates with his life right now. At very least, I imagine having this exchange of dialog with him some day: "So she's living here now?" "Yeah." "You gonna get married?" "Eh.. I dunno.." "YOU KNOW.. WE'RE PLAYING HOUSE WHEN WE SHACK!"
***** thank you -your post is the most positive and powerful statement about Preacher Man I have ever read. @benjiesell I don't think Green Velvet were endorsing what the preacher was preaching. The deepness in this track is more likely to come from a voiceless critique of his message, obviously in line with the humour of the pun of 'playing house'.
