For people who think opera is just the same old classics performed year after year, this new production could be exactly the breath of fresh air they are looking for. I have not seen it yet, but NYTimes gave it a great review and I generally trust the judgment of their reviewers.

+Scott Anthony It's not an opera that I like but I went to the HD anyway. I came out ecstatic: it is fabulous. The production, the singers and chorus were at their best.

Still no high D.... Annick MASSIS still stays the real Leila.

I agree, even if she's a soprano she doesn't HAVE to always produce the highest notes possible. I sometimes (especially in cadenzas) find them out of place even.

Annick Massis is a good singer but she really don't act as good as Diana Damrau. Actually, when I'm listening to Damrau , I feel the all emotion of Leila in her voice. We all know she can produce a high D, and even a E or F, maybe she just don't find it appropriated here.
