Hi Ko & Mi, eat & enjoying Durian take some time as it is acquired taste over 1 year or more. FYI, I knew a few expats from Japan, 1st year in M'sia, No, no way durian, 2nd year, no durian, but 3rd year trying, they "acquired" & used to the smell & the taste that they go crazy and love durian every time they see it on the street!
Hahaha. This is funny. I think I'm gonna start hanging out at durian stalls and finish all the durians that foreigners bought but can't eat 😂 Good try though 👍
I had a Japanese friend who tried durian for the first time & OMG, she fell in love with durian & ate so much that day. I suggest you try other types eg. 101, D24, XO & Musang King.
Good to know you guys gave it a try! You should have started with smaller size durian or buy those packed with smaller portion so you dont waste if you don't like it. If you ask me, I would recommend you to try "Red Prawn", this type is alot easier to eat. "Horlor" is just one of many type of durian out there. Some Japanese youtuber like "Taka and Sho" find it tasty on certain type of durian but some they completely can't handle it like you guys. But if you check out "Ichang and Jimmy" which is the most famous Jap. youtuber in Malaysia, they love all kind of durian to the point they almost become expert in Durian. Having said that, don't worry some Malaysians also hate durian because it's stinky.😂
It's normal for foreigners not to like it, fine by me 😁. The price are actually sky rocketed since 10-15 years ago when durian became a big hit mainly in China. They become a huge importer and today durian are quite luxury fruits for average Malaysian.
Durian is an acquired taste, ie either you love it or hate it. Quite a lot of Malaysians dont like it too, but those who love it are fanatical about it. The taste is indescribable but definitely exotic. Common descriptions would be like onion custard, rotting vegetables etc. but the sweetness is unequalled. Perhaps you should try eating durian ice cream in future. This will help you appreciate the taste of durians better, without the smell or the messy texture.
Hehehehe well durian is not for everyone especially first timers. There's a saying, there's sweetness in all the bitterness (i dont really know how to say it). If you overcome the bitterness, then you only taste the sweetness of durian. That'll be the day you fall in love with durian. About how Malaysian handle stinky food. Well i can't say behalf of every Malaysian. But i believe the Malaysian Chinese can handle stuff like natto. And tbh i never had natto before. That might be a challenge to me. Anyway i personally tried a few stinky food. For example the Chinese stinky tofu and mam tom (vietnamese shrimp paste). I have no problem swallowing the stinky tofu but that mam tom. I still cant really take it. I think you can find videos of foreigners trying mam tom and you can see their reaction 😂
As a Malaysian, Natto doesn't stink. Just looks gross, like the mucus from your nose when given the first stir ! Therefore, not appealing to want to eat it. It is definitely an acquired taste, like eating our beloved durian.
@@koandmi As Natto lovers, both of you will definitely love the Chinese/Taiwanese equivalent of Grilled Stinky Tofu. Because the tofu is fermented, it stinks. Once cooked/grilled, it does not stink. Serves more like a salad dish, it is amazingly yummy.
I don't know why but most Japanese people have same reaction as you. Maybe the Taste is nothing similar to what you all eat. But no worry, it's a love or hate fruit
One of my favourite fruit..Durian any type..i can eat durian even if it is huge amount..but dont drink carbonated drinks or liguor once you eat durian.. it is dangerous to health..a waste if you dont like it coz it is not cheap anywhere..if i am there i will walopp everything that serves in front of me😂😂😂
@@koandmi Yes absolutely I like n love durian..I hv hectares of land planted durian of different varieties n sell it also for part time income..for us most malaysian loves durian but there are certain percentage of Malaysian don't like to consume durian at all..slowly it takes time for you to like n love durian n be like Malaysian 🤣🤣🤣..cheers
