  • I'm off on my annual trip to Cuba later today so I won't be posting any videos for a few weeks. I hope to find some great Treseros to jam with and hopefully record.
I'll leave you with a tutorial I've been meaning to do for some time now; 'Chan Chan' as played by the legendary 'Buena Vista Social Club' transcribed directly from the recording including the solo. I've posted two other tutorials for 'Chan Chan' on my channel in the past, however one is a modern take on it played by Elder Gonzalez Aquino, and the other is my very first tutorial which was, frankly terrible...I had no idea what I was doing back then. So I'm going to delete that one and replace it with this new one.
Of course there is no Tres on 'Chan Chan' to transcribe from so I'm playing a combination of Compay Segundo's Armonico parts and Eliades Ochoa's guitar parts.
In the video I am tuned to standard C (GCE), and I'm playing my Taylor GS Mini Tres, for more on that click here: • Taylor GS Mini Tres Cu...
The string guages I am using are:
    G10/24 C16/16 E11/11
I transcribe all of the songs for my tutorials myself so I don't have the tablature for any of them.
    #TresCubano #CubanTres #Tresero
My channel is not monetized, so I do not make money from my videos. If there are ads running on this video it's because the content is copyrighted and the owner of that copyright is receiving the revenue from the video views.
The song at the end of the video is the classic tune ‘El Reloj De Pastora’ played by the incredible ‘Septeto Trio Los Dos’ who have graciously given me permission to use.
I make and sell Tres Cubano Conversion Kits for Baby Taylor Guitars. The kit can be installed in under 30 minutes with no luthier experience required. They cost $200 (USD) with free shipping worldwide.
You supply the Baby Taylor and I send you everything you need to turn it into a great sounding Cuban Tres.

Paul I wish you a great and safe trip. We on RUclips know you will find wonderful treseros, probably who most of the world aren't too familiar yet. Maybe you can get some great Changüí videos. Thanks again for all you've posted!

Awesome, to see you playing. Just finished my custom build tres cubano, and it sounds great! BTW, Are there any tabs available for tres cubano songs?

Awesome video bro! I've been wanting to start playing El Tres..... I grew up listening to Punto guajiro with my dad and would love to be able to pick this beautiful instrument up. I've been playing guitar for nearly 20 years now.... Growing up in LA you don't come across El Tres that often. My question to you is do you think it would be an easy transition for me?

    • @TresCubano
      @TresCubano  8 лет назад +3

      Hey Alexander,
You know, I get that question almost everyday. And the answer is yes...I played guitar for 20 years as well and now I don't even own one...
The key is thinking of the Tres as the three highest strings on the guitar, that way all of the chords will be familiar. I'd go for it...
Let me know what you decide and drop me a line when you do, I'll point you to some free instructional material to get you going.
      Thanks for watching!
      Cheers.
      -Paul.

That is some fantastic music! How do you like the microphone? I was curious if you got the ETM-001 or the EIM-001, since you recorded with your iPhone 6 because the ETM-001 isn't compatible with an iPhone unless you have an adapter. Thanks!

      Hi Carl,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, I was in Cuba for the past ten days...
You're totally right, I am using the EIM-001, my mistake...I changed it in the description. I'm loving it so far...when you play an instrument with doubled strings occasionally you get an annoying wavering in the audio if the strings are the slightest bit out of tune, with this mic I don't get it at all. The audio is rock solid with bright highs and much deeper lows, although during editing I do have to back down the level by almost 70% because the output is so much louder. I'm very happy with it!
Thanks for setting my straight on that...
      And thanks for watching!
      Cheers.

TresCubano Awesome. Hope you had a great trip. So cool to hear your perspective on how the EIM-001 performs. Yes, the levels do need to be kept in check. One thing to consider is using an app like TwistedWave because it has manual input gain control.
Anyway, looking forward to more music!

So growing up I played percussion, never played guitar, but I’m Cuban and have known about the Tres my whole life. My question is how would I go about learning the basics (notes, chords, etc...) or do you have a video for that and I missed it?

      Anthony Moreira
      Hey Anthony,
I’ve started a ‘beginner series’ a few months back that you might find helpful. Here’s a link to the one on chord shapes:
      ruclips.net/video/iFqx9oLU1Dk/видео.html
If you email me I can send you a very useful PDF that covers the basics.
You have the advantage of being a percussionist already, the Tres is basically percussion with notes...
You should have no problem getting going.
      My email is:

      Greetings from Canada!
      Cheers.

I hope you are doing well.
Do you have some written notes or chords for this? Without this it's incredible difficult for a beginner to learn this song. I can't watch your right and your left hand at the same time and even if I could, I sometimes cannot see exactly if your finger touches the string or not.
Please help! I bought a tres some days ago and I am a real beginner. I want to learn it for fun (my husband started to take Conga lessons). Years ago I played guitar (but not very well :-) )
    Kind regards

My family and I recently returned from the Caribbean so we’re all in self isolation for two weeks...we’re doing ok under the circumstances though, thanks! How are you making out?
Sorry, I transcribe everything myself so I don’t have the tab for any of my tutorials.
Keep at it, and don’t concentrate too much on the right hand, just the left.
      Thanks for watching!
      Stay safe😉

@@TresCubano thanks! Our family is in self isolation for one week now here in Switzerland. It's hard but it has to be.
I think I should search a teacher for the beginning and the basics. I will come back later :D
Have a good time at home
