Many thought they were a washed up 60s band Well, they showed all those critics with their enormous comeback a year later. We die hard fans knew better. Yes, they performed this song in Melbourne and it was wonderful. In fact, the entire concert is wonderful. Check it out just for fun, Chad. I promise that you won't be disappointed!
Falsetto-voice here is Maurice's. Mr. Natural is such a wonderful song of them. Brian Wilson outet himself beiin' a big fan of the Bee Gees, because of their harmony-abilities, which he discribed as outta this world. BTW, first recorded Falsetto of Barry is to hear on Bee Gees 1'st on a song called 'Please Read Me', in 1967. That one was covered by Percy Sledge. What I love the most is, when Barry and Robin shared leads on songs, so both of them are topclass-singers and it's pure pleasure to hear Barry after Robin or Robin after Barry. To me, that's a heavenly thing and I never ever would try to prefer one of them! Strange to me, that some of the fans do so.
Note that Greg Lake was a HUGE fan of the Bee Gees and gave them a lot of credit when he would do talks on his solo tours. Which I fiound exciting as I believe Greg is the best singer of our time outside of these three.
This is a great song. But I'm surprised it's at the top. Wow. It does show their "natural" voices pretty good. The Bee Gees, truly the most gifted, incredible, singers and songwriters ever ❤
Actually the “come on baby” in what sounds like a falsetto is Maurice! The discovering of Barry’s falsetto was right after this album, when producing Main Course.
Thanks, I noticed two days ago that short falsetto singing and attributed it to Robin. So I'm glad to know the real identity of the singer. About falsetto and Barry, sometimes in some early tracks since the sixties, he sang some notes with a high-pitched voice. I guess himself had forgotten it. For example in "Voices" (the "la, la la,)'' , and other I haven't find them, my memory fails me...:-) .or in "Dogs" and perhaps also in other songs. Already "FALSETTO" in 1967 ? Here's a link to discover a 1967 live rendition at the BBC of the song "Mrs Gillepie's refrigerator" . Clearly the "ah ah ah ah ! ..." are sung in falsetto like in one by the BG's greatest disco hits ...... ruclips.net/video/qL95cLekElY/видео.html
@@buchholtzmathieu1810 yes, Barry has some earlier tracks where he features a high pitched, but struggled voice. Barry’s falsetto is clearly the best falsetto on the trio, since they all can sing as high as Barry (you can see that in “too much heaven”, for instance, and “living together”, where Robin features a high pitch voice, and he actually goes even higher on the original track for “Juliet” as a solo artist), but before Barry, most of the high pitch harmonies were sang by Maurice. Take a look at the last song on this medley, he continues to scream when everyone stopped. ruclips.net/video/FuYSJ4w_26Y/видео.html
Another totally underrated gem from the Bee Gees. This was the first album produced by Arif Mardin (the second being Main Course; IMO their best album top to bottom) and you can really hear them fleshing out many of the elements of what would eventually become part of their signature sound.
I have always liked how this album had the elements of what would become their standard later, whilst still not being completely apparent (have always thought of this as a kind of in between album). Throw a Penny is also a very good track.
Yes Janet Robin was so very special. I have always loved Robin. His voice was totally awesome!. I love this song. Missing Robin still. I can't believe it's been 9 years since he passed. RIP sweet Robin.
A good pre UK 60's song to react to would be Wine And Women from 1966. Great song written by Barry and with Robin really getting through in some part of the song.
Yep, and if you watch the earliest performances of Nights On Broadway (75 to 79) Maurice is really doing most (or maybe all) of the falsetto as the song comes to a crescendo. Oddly, performances in the 80s of Nights On Broadway almost removed the falsetto riffs and Maurice just sticks to simple melody singing; although in some of those later performances backing singers on stage kick in some of the high riffing near the end of the song. So before Barry became so falsetto focused, it was Maurice who did that - and then before long he just stopped doing it. Maybe he felt eventually that singing falsetto was now Barry's trademark - or maybe he actually started to feel there was too much falsetto happening and decided he personally wouldn't be adding to it...?
Dogs!!! Yes yes yes!!!! That's actually the first time Barry really used his falsetto, singing unison overdubbed an octave above his lead. He didn't use the falsetto as solo ad lib licks or lead vocal until Nights On Broadway, though.

@@eh-i1841 - They couldn't have been wealthy since Hugh was working jobs like delivering bread. Work for big band musicians was likely pretty scarce. I know a lot of musicians and music teachers now and they aren't rolling in the dough. Not the most lucrative profession. In Australia in particular they often moved in the night to avoid the landlord. In Manchester they said they bathed with cold water and had bread in milk for breakfast in lieu of cereal. I remember outdoor bathrooms and heating water for a bath on the stove in Warwick. The family briefly was split up with Barry and Hugh living with one relative and the rest with another. Maybe the scenario was a bit exaggerated over the years but they weren't rich. Were you familiar with that part of Manchester in the post war era of the late 1940's and early 1950's? It was industrial and so heavily bombed. It has very likely changed a lot since then and is much nicer now. Seventy years, especially after a war, can see a lot of change. I remember still seeing bombed out lots myself in London in the 60's. The same with Coventry. I was there in the 60's and it was very nice but a lot of it, like the cathedral had been massively restored. The "seedy places" I referred to were the veterans' clubs and with "dancing girls" and fights in Australia. Robin was said to be threatened with reform school for arson. In their bio a friend said he also burned a radio shop and a car but never got caught. That sounds a bit more dangerous than troublesome. Who knows? I have to believe some of it is true because it is in their bios and verified by friends in those books. Times and places have changed since the 40's and 50's. You can't judge what they were like or their prosperity by what they are today.
This is their first collaboration with Arif Mardin. He put a little more soul into their music. He also requested some falsetto into the band. OMG a momentous time in the history of the Gibbs.
This song emerged during their “quiet” years, leading up to another transition in their illustrious careers . This was 1974 and the band was falling into obscurity until their new manager decided to up the tempo and the rest is history!
I tried to listen to one of Barry's later songs without the brothers and I'm sorry Robin was the only one who could sing without them and still sound amazing. His voice was so profound and pure but Barry's voice was not bad by any means but he needed his brothers to make his voice work perfectly
Beautiful, melody, Beautiful harmony, Beautiful Voices, what’s not to love here!?! Love this Song, they are always incredible, sweet perfection! ♥️♥️♥️
this song and the album with same name are such an underrated gem from the bee gees. amazing songs that bridged their 60s work and their later funk music direction later on.
Beautiful. Robins voice so distinct and awesome. Love this. Unfortunately I never heard much from this album until recently. Amazing talent!!! The falsetto here was Mo I believe.
Hi Chad I love this song Mr. Natural. Recently Barry did a Q&A on Reddit and took questions from fans. I asked him about Mr. Natural and he responded that it was inspired by a cartoon comic book character called Mr. Natural. He said he didn't know why.
Chad, have you done Massachusetts yet? I’ve searched and can’t find it yet you’ve done a lot of their less well known songs whereas Massachusetts was their first UK number 1 and is fabulous. There are some great versions including Melbourne 1989 or 1974 and from the Parkinson TV show. (Apologies if you’ve done it already and I just haven’t been able to see it)
Chad: this time I got the surprise, because I thought I was misunderstood for liking Mr Natural so much "Mr Natural" is in my opinion an album as fantastic as it is undervalued. It is the transition of the Bee Gees from romantic music and ballads to disco sound that explodes with the movie "Saturday Night Fever" and in that transition there are two consecutive albums, "Mr Natural" and "Main Course", which are fabulous, the best of his career (rare that a transition album is the best, but both are excellent) and the same goes for the song "Mr Natural" It is very good and it was not a success, rather it seemed to be a failure, only #93 in charts but if you see it in perspective it is the immediate precedent to the also brilliant "Nights on Broadway_ from the next album "Main Course" "Mr Natural" has the influences of North American soul, the beauty of Robin and Barry's alternation in the lead vocals, and a brilliant chorus. If you see them in the video of the recording studio, it is great to see them in profile the three brothers enter and leave for their vocal parts (I leave you the link) ruclips.net/video/msrs6ld3oPw/видео.html Something very personal: this song accompanied me after my adolescence, and the lyrics are very deep This song is still in my Top 5 of all Bee Gees
The album Mr. Natural is one of my favorites for the reasons you mentioned. Such great songs to explore on this one. I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for sharing that link!! So interesting to see them moving in and away from the mic.
Tiny Tim is the only voice I ever heard that 'touched' near Robins...but there is no real comparison. I always love the way these MEN carefully chose words to get the point across without being rude or crude, always respectful, especially to women.
I love how The Bee Gees are so respectful..."knew you more than me" instead of how they talk and sing today so trashy😊 None better than the Bee Gees. The men they were/are shows up all the time.❤
A top 5 favorite song only below Red Chair Fadeaway. Love the Mellotron work here by Mo. So clean. But Robin's ramp-up melody section is unlike anything ever played on the radio. It does sound as if the song was never finished or under-developed...
Love this song - especially the part about you won't see me crying in the rain AND my heart just won't sing...LOVE those lyrics!! ❤ "Fun Fact" - the guys HATED the album cover of Mr. Natural. It seems they WEREN'T allowed ANY input on the covers, including what photos were used, etc., until THEY produced "The Children Of The World" album and all the decisions were theirs. 😊 **Chad - you HAVE our permission to do MORE than 4 songs, btw!! 😂
Your source for this claim that Bee Gees "hated" the _Mr. Naural_ album cover? Without a source it's just UNFUN FALSITIES. Anyone can say anything, true or not, without a source. It's one of their coolest album covers, and considered more of an enduring classic than the album itself. The original location was shown (the bar and street) on a recent post on a website that specializes in finding the original locations of classic album covers.
@@souldeep69 First, I don't do "falsities" especially when it comes to the Bee Gee's. Second, Barry said this HIMSELF in an interview I watched where he was talking about how little control they had over ANYTHING. He just happened to use the "Mr. Natural" album cover as an example as something they did NOT like and would never have chosen. He couldn't see where it had any association to any of the songs on the album. I was disappointed to hear him say that because I've always loved that cover.
My sister picked this album up for me in Europe when she was backpacking. God I was so thrilled. Don’t think it was widely available in the US. At least it wasn’t where I lived.
I hope you will get to some if the sings Barry and Maurice did, such as "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" and "Don't Forget to Remember". Another marvelous one is "I'll Kiss Your Memory". These are amazingly beautiful and a bit different from typical Bee Gees.
The 1974 Montreal concert is worth watching it was Mr Natural Tour. However TV camera work was not fab then so between songs you get blanks of recording it hasn't finished be patient. It is my favourite pre disco era concert despite the early 70's tv.
Thanks a lot! So glad you enjoyed this track. In fact as wrote here RAFA, it's Maurice who sings in falsetto. But as I know the first falsetto singing is from 1967. Here's a link to discover it. It's a live rendition at the BBC of the song "Mrs Gillespie's refrigerator" (an outtake of the album "Bee Gees 1st"). Clearly the "ah ah ah ah ! ..." are sung in falsetto like in one by the BG's greatest disco hits .... I let you guess ...... ruclips.net/video/qL95cLekElY/видео.html
Robin had a great voice, well they all did, it does seem to me if you count the biggest hits Barry was the lead on the majority of them. Not to take away from any of them, but it does appear that after the very first start of their journey Barry really took the lead as front man. Just my observation and again all the brothers are necessary parts of the Bee Gees.
That’s not true. Barry’s voice was layered with Robin’s. This is because Robin’s natural voice was as high as Barry’s falsetto. Also don’t forget how important Robin was as a lyricist.
I wish he would not do falsetto all the time now… love his old normal voice… have trouble listening to him now in 2021… breaks my heart. I just listened to the Midnight Special performance and that falsetto in “Nights on Broadway” was Maurice NOT Barry as it had been often but people didn’t realize because he so seamlessly came in just on the perfect notes… Barry was deep and funky, at his best !
oficcially was nights on broadway the first falsetto yes...BUT....BUT .....they started to experimented with that in very disimulated way in this album...if you listen the song DOGS, you can listen very clearly Barry´s falsetto in background vocals
I have searched around for what these lyrics mean - not just that it's about a failed relationship - but who is this "Mr Natural" and why is he trying to be "Natural"?? Lots of people have come to the same basic understanding of the lyrics without any of them addressing who or what is "Mr Natural".

This was their first attempt at a true R&B album. It was a small step that led to major success in the 70's.
This is their first collaboration with Arif Mardin. He put a little more soul into their music.
He also requested some falsetto into the band. OMG a momentous time in the history of the Gibbs.
Wow beautifull it was a great song in 74 to. So amazing.
Loved it. Thank you. You will also like Baby As You Turn Away and I Love You Too Much. I’d really like to see your reaction to those.
Robin!!!!!! Genial!!!!!!!!!!

Maurice had ahigh great voice in this song...
You Understand Man. You make me cry that yo feel it!!
this song and the album with same name are such an underrated gem from the bee gees. amazing songs that bridged their 60s work and their later funk music direction later on.
Luv hearing Maurice high n base vocal s
Beautiful. Robins voice so distinct and awesome. Love this. Unfortunately I never heard much from this album until recently. Amazing talent!!! The falsetto here was Mo I believe.
Love this song! Yeah!👏👏👏👏
Just fabulous!! Great song🎶 luv Robin, Barry n Maurice❤❤❤
If I had to pick a fav it would be this one
🥀Amazing Song I love it 🥀☝️🥀
Thanks, Chad ❤👋👂 you are the best!!!
My first Bee Gees album. My dad bought it for me for my ninth birthday. Still play the album
My favourite Bee Gees song from my favourite Bee Gees album.
They sang this live on The Mike Douglas Show if you're interested.
Only wish!!! That i had gone to one of their concerts😍
I never heard this song. Yes, the harmonies. Like no others. Thank you!
Listen to this song live version of the 1974 concert. Wonderful
Hi Chad I love this song Mr. Natural. Recently Barry did a Q&A on Reddit and took questions from fans. I asked him about Mr. Natural and he responded that it was inspired by a cartoon comic book character called Mr. Natural. He said he didn't know why.
I enjoy you so.much!
Awesome
Also, they sing this live on The Midnight Special...not sure of the year.
(Apologies if you’ve done it already and I just haven’t been able to see it)
Thanks Chad. I’m actually a woman called Louise but there’s no way you could have known that. 😀
Chad: this time I got the surprise, because I thought I was misunderstood for liking Mr Natural so much
"Mr Natural" is in my opinion an album as fantastic as it is undervalued. It is the transition of the Bee Gees from romantic music and ballads to disco sound that explodes with the movie "Saturday Night Fever"
and in that transition there are two consecutive albums, "Mr Natural" and "Main Course", which are fabulous, the best of his career
(rare that a transition album is the best, but both are excellent)
and the same goes for the song "Mr Natural"
It is very good and it was not a success, rather it seemed to be a failure, only #93 in charts
but if you see it in perspective it is the immediate precedent to the also brilliant "Nights on Broadway_ from the next album "Main Course"
"Mr Natural" has the influences of North American soul, the beauty of Robin and Barry's alternation in the lead vocals, and a brilliant chorus.
If you see them in the video of the recording studio, it is great to see them in profile the three brothers enter and leave for their vocal parts
(I leave you the link)

Something very personal: this song accompanied me after my adolescence, and the lyrics are very deep This song is still in my Top 5 of all Bee Gees
The album Mr. Natural is one of my favorites for the reasons you mentioned. Such great songs to explore on this one. I appreciate your thoughts. Thank you for sharing that link!! So interesting to see them moving in and away from the mic.
I love this link
It's amazing to see Barry Robin and Mourice enter or leave when each one are singing
@@escorpioomega2111 they really were in sync, always knew what the others were doing. Amazing.

Thanks for your words!
I really love this video
this song has 2 excellent chorus's!
Tiny Tim is the only voice I ever heard that 'touched' near Robins...but there is no real comparison.
I always love the way these MEN carefully chose words to get the point across without being rude or crude, always respectful, especially to women.
I love how The Bee Gees are so respectful..."knew you more than me" instead of how they talk and sing today so trashy😊
None better than the Bee Gees. The men they were/are shows up all the time.❤
A top 5 favorite song only below Red Chair Fadeaway. Love the Mellotron work here by Mo. So clean. But Robin's ramp-up melody section is unlike anything ever played on the radio. It does sound as if the song was never finished or under-developed...
i love this album and i had never heard much from it before this past couple weeks
Love this song - especially the part about you won't see me crying in the rain AND my heart just won't sing...LOVE those lyrics!! ❤
"Fun Fact" - the guys HATED the album cover of Mr. Natural. It seems they WEREN'T allowed ANY input on the covers, including what photos were used, etc., until THEY produced "The Children Of The World" album and all the decisions were theirs. 😊
**Chad - you HAVE our permission to do MORE than 4 songs, btw!!
I love the falsetto, but Barry before touches deeply also, but he could always get back too it, naturally 😁
Damn!
I hope you will get to some if the sings Barry and Maurice did, such as "Tomorrow, Tomorrow" and "Don't Forget to Remember". Another marvelous one is "I'll Kiss Your Memory". These are amazingly beautiful and a bit different from typical Bee Gees.
_Hello Gayla, these are on my list! Thanks for your recommendations and for tuning in to my channel!_
First! It's a good one. 🥰
1:42 I'm cryyyyYYYY YY YY Y!!
Robin 😍
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
oficcially was nights on broadway the first falsetto yes...BUT....BUT .....they started to experimented with that in very disimulated way in this album...if you listen the song DOGS, you can listen very clearly Barry´s falsetto in background vocals
I hear Mo coming in softy tones, ( Come on baby)
Goose pimples Weeeeeeeeeow🎸🎸🎸

I forgot It jajaja. I Also reacted. But you could react Bee gees "voices"
You need to react to Charade and Love Me. two of their best.
"Charade" is so sweet
the opening track of Mr Natural album
Chad faz um react de Voices do Lp Mr Natural .
👏👏👏
I have searched around for what these lyrics mean - not just that it's about a failed relationship - but who is this "Mr Natural" and why is he trying to be "Natural"?? Lots of people have come to the same basic understanding of the lyrics without any of them addressing who or what is "Mr Natural".
