Hi Michele, I subscribed to your u-tube channel just now, after watching your first Tip video. I’m glad that you mentioned your new videos on u-tube during the interview with Eric Rhoads. Looking forward to watching the additional Tips! Debbie Rank
The explanation of the figures was stirring. If I had lots of money and that painting was for sale I would buy it based on that story about the ‘mystical Covid ‘ figures and I’m really not even a fan of city scapes. Thank you for these videos on color. They are great.
Good to see you doing this, Michele--a way to continue your teaching and staying in touch with former students. I love that you are focusing on individual colors as a lesson and then demonstrating how you used them in your painting. Thanks.
Nice to see you, Michele! Greetings and good wishes from Portugal! We moved here last fall when my husband retired. I brought my Cobra paints and was just getting back into plein air painting in March. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and I look forward to seeing more of you!
really great-- interesting new challenges for us all-- what does this whole period of time mean to us and our expression. Already love your dedication to American Flag. Keep going!
Thanks Carol! I've been painting flags for years... you can read about it on my blog from July 2019: www.michelebyrne.com/?keyvalue=37288&page=Blog&blogmonth=20197
I love this. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and contributing to my understanding of blue. Looking forward to learning about the other colors. Thank you again!
Hi Michele. Thanks for the video tip! I watched the first section of your Cityscape video that Streamline put on RUclips and that was very helpful. I tried the thrust diagram and the value study on a painting I’ve been stuck on for a couple of weeks, and it was really timely for my own painting. I realized what was wrong and what the painting needed and now I have a good idea for what to do next. Thank you!
Great tips! I live in Colorado and having a second home in Albuquerque to be finished this August. Can’t wait to enjoy the new adventures that I’m sure you are with plein air scenes there since you moved to Santa Fe.
Fantastic job on video Michele - very professional! I really appreciate the tips idea - short and easy to absorb. Love the colors in the painting! I try to paint with a very limited palette but your mix of blues is awesome!
Thankyou for your touching painting in these strange times I love your not quite finished people @ I hope the world settles down soon God Bless and warmest regards Dee Woolley In Tasmania Australia.
@@michelebyrne4988 I am trying to learn how to paint with a palette knife and I use water miscible oil paints (mostly Cobra) so it’s great to watch you paint. I have watched parts of 2 of your Streamline videos and love your paintings!
@@suskcush Great... lots of practice, scraping off and re-applying paint is a great way to learn. I have two other RUclips videos. Hopefully the 4th one will come out in the next few months. I also have been teaching Zoom classes. the next one starts next week,. You can sign up for my newsletter to be up-to-date on all classes, etc. at: www.michelebyrne.com/email-newsletter
Looking forward to more of your videos...I very much appreciated the Streamline video that was shared. Your “teaching” style & personality on camera was very enjoyable. Now for yellows, or even better CORALS! Happy Mother’s Day... or is that postponed now too 🤷♀️
Well I guess Mother’s Day isn’t postponed, but I won’t be seeing my mother because of it! The retirement home she’s in is in lockdown. My Studio Tip #2 RUclips on Yellow will be posted tomorrow or Monday!
Michele Byrne my mom is in Kentucky, my family & I live in South Carolina. It’s sad. Take care & thank you for your beautiful art...I’ve been painting roses lately. We’ll get thru this!!!
I love the Elton John intro and the Pink Floyd exit music! Wonderful and informative video. I learned a lot and enjoyed it quite a bit. Although it's probably a silly thing to nitpick about, I've always thought of Ultramarine as a cool blue. I find it interesting that you say it leans toward red, yet you say Pthalo leans toward green. You skipped a color on the scale with Ultramarine. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say Ultramarine leans toward violet to purple (which I always see as a cooler color than green)? Or if it does lean toward red, wouldn't it be more accurate to then say Pthalo leans toward yellow if you're going to compare them to a primary? Yeah, like I said, I'm probably too nitpick. That said, I love your work. I love the energy you inject with your use of color and knife texture.
Thanks for the feedback... and Yes... There is a BIG controversy/discussion about what is cool and what is warm blue! Google it and you will see : ) Previously I thought Ultramarine was cool... but after studying with Artist Carolyn Anderson I changed my mind. And YES I could have shown a violet color.
Hi Michelle. I originally watched the tutorial on my iPhone with earbuds plugged in. Your voice was only in my left ear so I switched to my iPad with the same result. I really don’t know what caused the problem but somewhere along the way your computer only recorded on the left channel. I don’t know what type of microphone you used but it might be defective in some way or the actual connecter is the problem. I use iMovie a lot myself and I’ve never had that issue. I may be wrong but I don’t think iMovie is the issue. Have you listened to the final product on RUclips with earbuds? If not, plug a pair in and listen. If you can hear in both ears something happened to your RUclips upload. Let me know what you discover. I’d like to help.
Michele, I wrote a note this am after watching your video, but I don't see it here. I love what you've done in this BLUE video. I learned so much. I'm just now looking for Rembrandt water mixable oils for the Phthalo Green Blue color and can only find it in Winsor Newton. Where were you able to find it? We vacationed in Key West for the month of January and loved our time there. I could relate to your words about the turquoise. In fact, when I found out you would be there in February, it was so hard to return home! I have purchased two of your videos and love them.
Hi Bonnie, Thanks for the message! Sorry I missed you in Key West! Maybe anther time. So Cobra - the water soluble oils are what I use... they are made by Royal Talens, the same company that makes Rembrandt traditional oils. In this video I used one Rembrandt color - Phthalo Green Blue - because you can mix up to 30% traditional oils with the Cobra Water Mixable oils. However, Cobra does make other vibrant cool blues, such as Phthalo Turquoise Blue... also great for the Tropics : ) Best place to buy Cobra is Blick.com or Jerrys' Artarama online. Happy Painting!!
Michele, thanks so much for your careful response. I did take notes and was so excited to learn the particulars of trying to get to the water clean up, especially when traveling. So that's why I realized that I could start using the water mixable oils along with my regular oils. This can be a game changer for me. So I will hop back on Dick Blick and proceed. Just know, Michele, that you are pure gold in what you're sharing with us. I know your next studio tip is on yellow, but I had to get the gold in now. :-)
