As the 2019/20 DFB-Pokal kicks off, Eli travels to Germany and hits the Autobahn in search of what makes this Cup competition so special, taking in three First Round matches in three days.
From a Rhineland Derby between fallen giants Kaiserslautern and Mainz to potential banana skins for giants Borussia Dortmund and 2018 DFB-Pokal winners Eintracht Frankfurt, there’s narrative all over the shop.

Because he's lazy and isn't making any attempt to pronounce anything correctly. Personally I thought his 'rotwurst' attempt was worse.
The clip with Kaiserslautern makes me sad... i used to go to matches with an attendance of 50.000 winning 2:0 against Bayern and 5:0 against Schalke featuring Raúl, Draxler and others... this is just history now. Soon we‘ll play in the fourth tier...

And all 16 "Landespokalgewinner", or the 2nd in there Cup, when the winer as qualificiert in the League
@@MrSkyhunter95 There are 21 "Landespokale" in Germany and the two biggest regional associations send two teams to the cup (Bavaria usually sends the winner of their fourth tier league)
As an Alemannia Aachen Fan I like the start. In 2004 we came as a 2nd tier Team to the final. There we qualified for the UEFA cup, where we also reached the 3rd round.
....and kicked out Bayern München on our way to the final. What a night that was....
Like they say, “the cup has its own rules” and that exactly happened this year with saarbrucken, the first 4th division team to make the DFB pokal semi finals. Would’ve been a great experience to go and watch the game but it’s a shame it was behind closed doors. The quarter final match against Düsseldorf wouldve been one to remember as well.
COPA90 is just elite football reporting, all about the emotions of football. It is amazing how you are able to bring the hype to the screen.

You should have go to berlin yesterday. Dynamo dresden came with 35000 away fans and made such an unbelievable atmosphere.
Unfortunately they lost in penalties after 3:3 in 120 mins. They were leading until 122. min 3:2. Feel so sorry for them

I think that shows why the Bundesliga and german football is great. They don't have the big names like Messi, Neymar or Ronaldo, but they have the best fans. Most stadium's are sold out and it's a great atmosphere there!
Well, the "big names" tend to be the "big names" because they play for so called "big clubs". I don't think that players like Klose, Schweinsteiger, Neuer or Lahm weren't the best in what they did during their heydays.
The cuts at the beginning were a little wild for my taste, but I loved everything that followed

Still remember vividly that one evening when my club (4th tier) beat a bundesliga club in the third (or fourth?) round one day before christmas after penalties. Nobody went home after that one, everybody stayed in or around the stadium, singing christmas carols :D

Fantastic job. You really captured the essence of the Pokal. It´s an amazing competition and ever since the undeniable dominance of Bayern in the Bundesliga perhaps even the more interesting competition.

the Coupe de France is really insane too because there are little teams from 5th or 6th division which can beat ligue 1 clubs
in germany the atmosphere is just better
in Coupe de France you have teams from Africa, Oceania, Caribbean and South America :-) Can you imagine that team from Tahiti win cup and play in Europa league :-) It would be like playing team from Eastern Russia :-)

The cool thing about the Pokal is, that ANY listed football team (in theory) can take part on it, as long as they manage to win their Landespokal, which is the cup of their governing state (Bundesland)

In my FM21 save, Bundesliga 2 side Hannover just won the Pokal in the first season. And they played Hertha in the final (which stayed in the Bundesliga after beating Nurnburg in the playoffs).

I'm American and the people that love MLS teams LOVE their teams but it doesn't take over, culturally, like it does in the U.K. or Germany. I get so jealous when I see the way the fans support their clubs and wish I had a MLS team near me. Football is the greatest sport in the world and America rather play a game with 60 minutes on the clock that takes three and a half hours to play... smh...
thing is, the main solution for US fans is time. Football has been structured there in a clear manner for 25 years or so. Compared to the rest of the world it's a baby

Alemannia Aachen indeed kicked Bayern out of the DFB-Pokal twice, but not as a 4th division side.
In 2003/04 they beat Bayern as they played in the 2nd Bundesliga, in 2006/07 they did it again, playing Bundesliga themselves.
That loss in 2004 was the last time Bayern got eleminated by a side from a lower league btw.

Happy to see this content. We had no problem with the introduction of female football on the channel. But it was very clear that you guys were trying to rebrand the channel instead of tweaking it, that's all that we had a problem with.
One cool thing about the game between Uerdingen and Dortmund was that one player of Uerdingen is actually a two time Bundesliga winner with Dortmund and a club legend (Kevin Gross(fisch)kreutz)

DFB Cup IS the best cup competition. When a lower class club meets a team from Bundesliga it is a real town féte there. Plus: Unlike Cup competitions in other countries clubs normally field their best line up and every match is a hard fought often epic battle.
To me the best domestic Cup Tournament is the dfb-pokal
