I've installed an ITA kit in a SP previously but that was using engineering sample housing and a modified GBA kit. This is a native SP kit and retail SP housing. • Funnyplaying Game Boy ...

thanks for the work you do for the community!
I did it and it worked perfectly! First time using a soldering gun. Love the ITA screen and brightness options! Thanks for the video!!
Love the vids. All ita kits seems to be literally just better ags-101's now with the osd. I hope they implement the frm feature to all other ips kits too. Thank you for all the information you give the gb community (for free btw)!!!

Nice. I just got one of these today so your video will be a good watch.
I came to look for you ITA videos, since my Funnyplaying kit arrived today. I ordered it like 2 weeks ago, directly from them, and it's the same kit you have, so the changes haven't been made yet.
Love your videos 😊
It's finally here holy shiet!
I've actually been able to fit this screen in an aftermarket shell. It just required a ton of modifications. Not only do you have to cut all support on the shell but sand down the posts where the screw holes would go just enough to center the screen and still have the screws go in and actually grab onto something. A lot of sanding where the support was in order to have the screen lay flat. Also once you do all this the shell you would have basically half circle shells where the screw indentations are. That's okay because once assembled the rubber stoppers will cover them. Leaving you with a normal looking sp lol
I do have to warn. I was a Handyman by trade in the past so I had the tools and the fine craftsmanship to know when to stop sanding and how much to sand without destroying the shell. I do think this would require some practice if you never sanded or modified anything in your life
This can be said with a lot of mods I show. I usually just say "it doesn't fit" and don't elaborate because most people that have the skill to make something like this work (like you do), do not even need the question asked. Nicely done.
I'm also looking to mod my GBA SP at some point. So i just gotta ask which ones do you prefer more, the Funnyplaying kits or the HISPEEDIDO kits and why? Right now i'm more leaning towards the funnyplaying laminated 3.0 IPS screen, because it seems a lot of other ppl are using that brand quite frequently. My plans are still a little up in the air, nothing is set in stone yet.
It's hard to go wrong.. I've used a few and enjoy them all. I just got this ITA and can't wait to try
Thanks so much for this video! I was able to mod my childhood GBA SP. What’s the sizing of the screws if I need replacements?
Hi, Makho. Thanks for the video. Are you going to update the spreadsheet with the most recent kits consumption info? Looking forward to the FP 3.0 IPS and FP ITA TFT stats.
I'm trying to catch up. I got behind and life has been hectic lately. I'll update it eventually. Power numbers are in the videos but brightness I'll get to soon.
How does the battery compare between this screen and the Funnyplaying IPS 3.0?
@@elgringo. I'll try and get the spreadsheet updated this weekend. Check back next week. Or you can skim the relevant videos for the power usage tests I already published.
Is this kit compatible with the Div6 GBAccelerator?
I love your videos bro, but golly it's scary how rough you can be with the devices! XD
These are children's toys.
@@makho hahaha well I don't have an arguement against that
@@Deedee48421 In all seriousness, these things were designed to be handled rough and if my "handling" weeds out any issues with the mod kits, these things stand no chance in "the real world". And it looks more rough than it is from the camera angle and proximity, trust me.
@@makho ooh, I actually like the angle of stress testing the kits in terms of reviewing them for us, I think it's just from the perspective of collecting stuff y'know
looking forward to the future video's cheers!
Where'd you get the 3d nintendo logo for the top of the shell? Haven't been able to find them since seeing them for the first time in an older video.
retrogamerepairshop.com/products/sp-gel-logo-stickers
Where did you get those sweet pill-shaped Nintendo logos? They're gorgeous!
Man i just did all this with my sp and the screen turns on and sound works but the screen doesn't show the gameboy logo and is just white with a yellow line, i'm hurt :(
Hi wondering for this kit, soldering is mandatory right? unlike the IPS kit?
Mandatory until the backlight connector comes pre-soldered. They currently do not come pre-soldered. Kit controls require soldering (but kit controls are optional).
Any advice on how to securely attach the ribbon cable on the screen? Mine keeps coming lose since it doesn’t have the same locking mechanism the motherboard has
The little black line on the back is a lock, you push it forward and it folds down locking the ribbon in place
Where’s the best place to buy your stuff? I’m specifically looking for some of the PCB’s you’ve designed.
The stuff I publish would be on my github (linked on my about page).
Just want to say that this install video was very helpful. The desoldering, ribbon folding, and resoldering wasn't as intuitive as usual, so thanks! 🫡✌🏼
Does this kit need the funnyplaying shell? Or can it be installed in any shell with no shell modification?
It needs the new shell. Unless you want to HEAVILY modify any other shell
My volume slider wasn’t replaceable so now it’s broken );
Does the battery last longer with the ITA display than with an IPS?
I never updated my spreadsheet with the SP ITA numbers (and I didn't realize this until right now so I'll go fix that in a bit) but the numbers are in the video. You can extrapolate battery usage from there. Lower power usage means longer battery life.
That was the main feature I was looking forward to with the ITA kits. I can't really tell from his spreadsheet. None of the line items seem to refer to this kit.
ips or ita screen, whats better?
I’m just here for the ZAS game play.
Much better than the IPS IMHO.
How disappointing. My screen I ordered direct from funnyplaying, and waited on shipping from china, does not work. I just get a blank white lit up screen.
Defects happen, unfortunately. Contact their customer service and I'm sure they'll walk you through troubleshooting steps or replace it.
@makho turns out I'm a silly goose and didn't have the cable seated. I don't know if my case is unique but I had to apply a little force to get the cable in the last half mm.
The striped surfaces I was talking about can be clearly seen at 1:01:16 in the video. Sadly funnyplaying didn't fix it.

I've also pointed this out before. Funnyplaying told me they weren't able to find a solution for the issue. The "moving lines" can be mitigated by adjusting the trim pot, but not the static horizontal rows of lighter pixels. They are always there, static.
Makho, you obviously don't see it yourself, ans that's fine, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. It can be seen in this very video even.
This is an issue that doesn't get talked about enough with these ITA kits. I adjusted the potentiometer using the flicker test on the aging ROM, but I still see the alternating rows of lighter pixels. Additionally, I still notice some very slight static when looking at areas of flat color. Not flickering, but like, fuzzy static. It's not possible to make these issues go away with the trim pot. The static isn't noticeable during gameplay, but the light lines are noticeable, especially in darker areas.
@@ivmivmivm Very noticeable! Unfortunately it was a deal breaker for me. FunnyPlaying responded to me saying there wasn't a way to fix the issue at that time. I'm guessing they haven't done anything about it since.
Awful 🤢
