I spent much of my childhood visiting Las Vegas NM as both my father and mother’s parents lived there. Funny how it still looks the same as it did in the 1960s…
I figured it would look similar to Flagstaff cause the elevation, but it looks beautiful like somewhat a desert but still greenery everywhere very nice looking place
The other Las Vegas. There's a lot here that says "old" and "trouble". One of the old US 66 alignments came up nearby, but basically it's US 84 and 85 (now Business I-25). Many businesses boarded up or vacant. Not a lot of maintenance or fixing up. It does have a college, but even that shows age and lack of improvement. There might be more modern construction and a better business corridor elsewhere around town, but this Vegas needs help.
LVNM needs help. Maybe a casino or two to emulate LVNV, take a page from Manhattan, Kansas (The Little Apple) and their attempts to emulate NYC? Name recognition only goes so far. New Mexico as a whole is growing, though, so that's good. Look at Roswell, for example. A city that is synonymous with aliens and UFOs has just topped 100,000 people! There's hope for LVNM yet. Little Vegas just needs it's own Bugsy Siegel (former mobster who opened The Flamingo in the 40s, planting the seeds that turned LVNV from a sleepy little town of less than 10,000 people in 1944 into a bustling metropolis of over 625,000 people in 2024 with a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million)
In the heart of New Mexico, there is an actual Taco Bell!! A Taco Bell, in New Mexico!! That’s some blasphemy right there. That would be like a Panda Chef in downtown Beijing! That’s just wrong. 😮😮 I can’t imagine anyone eating at Taco Bell when the food that it imitates was actually invented in the same area and there are indigenous cultures who can make the real thing and make it good!
Welcome to Las Vegas Baby!
Albuquerque, NM and Las Vegas, Nevada (NV) are coming up soon, right?
I'm from Santa fe, we went here to fish when I was a kid 60s,great memories, thanks 😁
