The first generation Punto was a great car in its class: nice styling, spacious interior, lightweight body and overall simplicity. The following Punto versions have been increasingly complex, bloated and not at all appealing. In general I feel the 1990s cars were the last cars that had soul and character. Hardly any car of today gives that same feeling. 1990s were happy times!

i will say that the mk2 punto (the 188) was still a really nice car.. yes, the Dualdrive Electric power steering was a really bad issue (even on mine has failed in the past) but it was still very basic, like this mk1 but extremely functional.

honestly, having been in even a modern grande punto, yes, it has definitely gotten much larger, but its still a great car, reasonably comfortable, and cheap to run, in the end it carries over the spirit of the punto i'd say

We had a 1996 punto in our family. Uncle leased it from his company from brand new until his boss sold it to my mom when he got a newer fiat. My mom drove it for 5 years until she had to emergency break for someone putting their loaner automatic in park by accident. Big truck behind her couldn't stop in time and sandwiched her car. Insurance wrote it off and since then she's only driven once when my grandma needed a lift to see my grandpa in the hospital.

I've watched this video when I bought this beast, but I coudn't drive it because I was yet to pass my driving test 😂 and then I watched it and imagined myself driving it... now when I passed my driving test and I drove for 5 months this beast I have to say, that's the best car for city driving, like really.

One of the greatest car that i owned. Mine was 60 Star version (with a/c), simple, the reliable FIRE engine has good torque since low rpm, a lot of internal space, on the front and back seats and also a big trunk.
The clean lines of the interior gives me a sensation of solidity, quality and feels good to the touch.
The car setting is of course very soft but it gives you good feedback of whats happening.
With winter tyres it perform very well on snow, maybe because its well balanced, i dont know...
Sold it around 250000km, no issues, only one clutch, pads, ac recharge etc....
Now that i see your video i miss it 😂
My brother own a mk2 with the same engine and it seems to me a totally different car, not so nice to drive and i always feel "disconnected" from the car.
Obviously problems with the power steering.

Sam Then look at the Fiat Punto mk2 interior. I think the mk1 looks nice, except the multimedia buttons on the steering wheel. I’ve had one in my family since I was born but two years ago the refigrirant froze in winter, because we didn’t put coolant and put water instead. And then on way to school the overheated light came on, my dad thought ohhh let me drive it to the mechanic, a one hour drive, and it did it but when the mechanic tried to start it the next day the belt broke because the engine was good stuck after all that heat, all the plastic in the engine bay had melted, though it still drove so long and lasted that long. And then we got another Punto mk1 with sunroof and 4 doors that had driven 400.000km and it stil drives the day today even though I no longer own it, I recently bought a Alfa Romeo 156 Twin Spark engine and GTA lights. And it’s the 2003 edition with multi climate control, it’s a nice upgrade.
