I haven't seen anyone address this joker's first comment yet concerning "cost savings." The energy secretary is completely, totally clueless. $1000/year in maintenance costs saved with an EV? Every year? No way!
Oil and brake changes don't cost $1000 a year. Maybe $150 a year on average since brakes are not even replaced yearly. All the rest - tires, windshield wipers, etc, are consumed just the same as an EV. Brakes on an EV do last longer (about twice as long) because of generative braking, but they still need to be changed during the lifetime of the battery. So I have no idea where they're coming up with that kind of savings. EV batteries slowly degrade from day 1, just like cell phone batteries, and have to replaced at 100k to 200k miles, and that costs $16,000 (Tesla Model 3) which is far more than buying a totally rebuilt ICE engine and having it installed.
IF, only regarding his claim, that 1000/ year were true or accurate it's 7-10 years before the price offset would be if ANY benefit. BUT, loss of jobs, increased maintenance costs: battery, charging limitations are factored in, IT'S A LOSING DEAL FOR THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS - Period!

Michigan used to be the automotive hub of America. The manufacturers wanted cheaper labor so they went to Mexico and China. Now China is trying to build all kinds of auto parts manufacturing in Michigan and paying people $10+/hr less than people were making 20 years ago to do the same types of jobs with unskilled labor.
You're missing a part there, though. Trade between the US and China was not legal until a president made it his prerogative to make it so. You can blame all of this on that president.
And now Michigan, which is far from an ideal place to have solar panels is putting those things on every piece of farmland that will sign off on it. Those are 100% coming from China and they certainly shouldn't be replacing fertile cropland with anything that's not producing food or clothing imo. Things are about to get ugly.

That number is likely an average over the life of the car. Gas engines on average will have more maintenance costs over their lifespan.
@@tamariecarmack1496 If that's what you believe, keep your car, let the rest of the country progress. No one is forcing you personally to do anything.
These EVs also hard on our roads because they weigh 1,000 lbs more than a gas vehicle.
Like that makes much difference with the US's addiction to stupid oversized trucks.
@@Frost_Saber those stupid oversized gas trucks don't have 100% torque on demand - EV's are tearing up the road and wasting rubber in multiple tire replacements vs their gas vehicle counterparts .... Like every progressive liberal policy, they haven't thought this through ....
Don't buy an EV, period.
Bless you Sen. Hawley💪🏾😃
They are not on our side😅😅
EV’s is having less maintenance is irrelevant and possibly not even true. They’re really hard on tires and suspension. They are also much harder on the road surface. Electric vehicles don’t last more than seven to 10 years. A Toyota can last 40 years. Electric vehicles have a stupid carbon footprint because they don’t last 40 years.
The most articulate and respectful q and a you will ever hear. Made is point without hysterics and as a result perhaps made others rethink there position.
Thanks Josh. Good questions.
Keep The Faith And Keep Up The Fire, Senator Hawley.
Much respect for Senator Josh Hawley. 😊
Tesla in 1909 used salt for his electric vehicle that only required one charge a year, not lithium. Funny that.
He strongly disagrees with Senator Hawley, states that he's taking the issues raised all whilst speaking with a wry smile on his face........
Worse the things he is saying don't even make sense because he is lying (im not going to mince words with things like deceit or misdirection or complete incompetent ignorance im just calling it a lie that's what he is doing). We don't have even have the mines to produce this stuff even if we had the infrastructure to produce it.
Duper grin
His job is to buy time so they can run out the clock and get away with it. This is way too late for the Republicans to hope to do anything about it.
It is all a show, and I’m guessing that’s how they are prepped, hence the creepy smiles.
Thank you Josh!!
You gettem’ Josh Hawley ❤❤❤
Every thunderstorm brings electricity loss, so now they want people to rely on electric vehicles? Lunacy.
Thank you Josh Hawley.
I'm so proud to call Josh my senator
AMEN JOSH!!!
I loooooooove Josh Hawley ❤❤❤❤❤❤ He reminds me of Jimmy Stewart ❤❤❤❤ He is presidential material ❤
I love this man!
These people are sick.
Rock on Senator Hawley!
Love Josh Hawley. A fine American.
UNbelievable
Yeah, let's let corporations using loopholes stop us from making progress. Okay.
I live in Texas. It's always hot. Batteries don't like heat.
I love ❤️ you Josh
It’s apparent that Josh is very smart, intelligent, well spoken.. We need more people like him in Government looking out for the American people
Josh Hawley is brilliant.
If it's not obvious, it's underhanded. Look at the right hand. Ignore the left hand.
If EV's are so great why is it recommended not to park them in your garage for fear of fire?
Wake up America.
Thank you mr. Hawley for calling out their bullshit n standing up for the people!!!!
He has a lotta nerve restricting the marketplace like that. That's a dictator move, 100%.
America does not have the infrastructure to support EV’s. We just don’t. This is a slow Coup
There is not enough Lithium currently available in the world, nor is there a practical way to obtain enough to facilitate everyone having an EV. This doesn't even consider the environmental impact of the lithium-ion battery waste and the environmental impact of actually MINING Lithium. EVs are neither "green" nor "affordable"
@@Lucitin That's how you know this entire "green energy" campaign is designed to destroy any country that is stupid enough o embrace it. All these people with all these cellphones in their pockets and not one has read the facts about EV's. We've got serious problems.
This is pure force in a entity no one wants but our enemies.
Oh.
Hawley GOOD JOB KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
EV's will fail in harsh New England winters.
So do gas cars
@@richardmesser1091 You should buy a fleet of EV powered plow trucks and go into business, you'll be as successful as Solyndra.
@@richardmesser1091 true, but I always got my gas vehicle to run every day for 3 consecutive winters in upstate Ny. If my phone cant hold a charge in these temps, an EV wont either
