I have been looking for information on the amiga bios...... THANK GOD I BOUGHT A QUEST 2 OR I WOULD HAVE NEVER FOUND THIS OUT. GOOD LORD. I've been so close to getting it running but so far at the same time. THANKS A MILLION BRU! I have the Miyoo Mini Plus and a Retroid Pocket 3+ (All use retroarch and i have been befuddled for the longest!)
Great tutorial! I got mine up and running too... I have the Quest 1 though, and it works for most part...but it does crash from time to time when using shaders or such.
What they need is a Quest VR wraper (like walk up to an arcade cabinet or A room with a big VR screen) for Retroarch. Oculus made this for the Go and still can be sideloaded. )Called Oculus Arcade, it was amazing.. They dropped that and never made it open source, which they should have.
Would love to have a VR arcade sim with accurate cabinets, where you can get a feel for playing old arcade games :P. Maybe even an 80s living room simulation for home computers and console. About to get my first VR, buying Quest tomorrow. Looking forward to the possibilities.
That can be done but you need a gaming PC to run the software. The Quest is a standalone headset but can be hooked up to a PC as well. "New retro arcade neon" you can create your own arcade, the developers have basically abandoned it though. "EmuVR" is a virtual bedroom you can populate with home consoles and computers, light gun games too. I've done videos on both over the years. Have fun with your headset!
The EmuVR dev said that it is PCVR only, there won't be a version for just the headset itself for technical reasons. I agree it would be cool with a mixed reality option though.
I don't think it will happen dude. Plus EmuVR is very niche and needs setting up, with copyrighted BIOS and game files. It's just beyond what most people want to do, a friend of mine (GamertagVR) couldn't set it up to show on his YT channel. That said Sega's Mega Drive classics collection has a VR mode, you have a retro bedroom much like EmuVR. They could release a version for headsets with mixed reality, as they can provide all the game files legally and it be much simpler for people to play.
@@Honosuseri I think it'll happen, just a matter of when. People are very enthousiastic about this stuff, especially if you grew up with older games. I set EmuVR up before on my PC and agree it's a bit of a hassle, but worth it. And if not EmuVR, something else 'll definitely pop-up. Heck it's almost enough to have RetroArch running locally!
There's a market for it, that's why companies released the mini consoles which were plug and play, even the C64 and Amiga are available now. Emulation most people look for premade images, even though that's frowned upon by everyone involved in the emulation software. I bought New Retro Arcade: Neon which is a sandbox Arcade you setup yourself. Developers promised to return to it but they haven't, it's basically abandoned which is a shame. I switched to EmuVR as it was being worked on and I mainly used it for the lightgun games, development is slow but it's cool software. The dev has said an absolute no to it being on Quest, as I said. We have Pinball FX VR which works on headsets. I'd hope Sega could do more than the Mega Drive/Genesis classics in VR. The cost of PC graphics cards is doing PCVR uptake no favours, so I'd absolutely love to see more retro gaming available on VR headsets standalone.
Great video thankyou, Thanks to you I can now play many of my console favourites, I don't seem to be able to do anything about the amiga though, is there an emulator for this on quest? I'm aware amiga was always a little more awkward with Rom's, so android Rom's for Amiga might be pushing it but I have to ask as I know if it can be done, your the fellow who would definitely know
The puae core in retroarch does the Amiga. You need the Amiga kick-start files for the bios. The whdload collection of games will work as hdf or lua files
You're welcome! The PUAE core has come a long way and is pretty good, basically you want to emulate an A1200 Amiga. A1200 will do both ECS and AGA graphics for games, make sure it's set to do cycle exact as this will ensure games run at the correct speed. The gamepad should have a shortcut key for a keyboard, you need to press F1 or other keys to start some games as 1P or 2P.
@Honosuseri that's fantastic, does retroarch cover C64 games also? I did try the emulator they created with the games room 80's style but I can't get roms to work on it....having said this android roms don't seem to be easy to get hold of....At least ones that work for me 😆
Yes there is a core for C64. There is no such thing as Android roms, we are using the Android app for Retroarch but game files are game files and work on any platform.
Great tutorial, very helpful. You mention though that you have a Dual shock 4. I've been trying to pair my DS4 controller with my Q2 and it pairs just fine. But when I switch to Retroarch it lets me navigate the menu normally with the DSR for a few seconds and then it goes really laggy, as if it's caching my controller inputs. Any idea what the issue might be and how to fix it? Really struggling to work out why it won't play nice. 😂
Yes I have one but I use the 8bitdo Pro 2 as my main gamepad. I'd have to pair the DS4 (2nd gen) and test it, I'd suggest you try it connected by USB cable
@@Honosuseri ah fairy snuff, yeah debated just grabbing an OTG cable, would be cheaper than an 8bitdo, although tempted to grab one to go with the quest anyway. Cheers for the reply 😝

I don't have an Xbox one pad to test. If it's connected to the Quest headset when Retroarch loads it should detect the pad and auto configure the controls.
Great video 👍 What would be the best working game controller for the quest 2 ? I used a Nintendo switch pro controller through Bluetooth and c cord and they both lag .
Hard to say as I only have a Dual Shock 4 and the two 8bitdo gamepads. The Switch Pro is supposed to be better than my 8bitdo Pro 2 pad for BT latency. In Retroarch go into the settings section of the UI and select "Latency", turn on "Run Ahead To Reduce Latency" and see if it helps. You might see a drop in performance though so be warned.
