_Real Numbers are everything. Anything in the Math system is a Real Number. Rational and Irrational count as Real._
_But Imaginary Numbers are only for getting Square Roots of a negative number._

Imaginary numbers are incredibly useful in a variety of areas. Take collision detection for instance. Let's say I want to figure out if a line intersects with a plane. If the intersection distance is infinite (i.e. not a real number) then I can deduce that the line does not intersect with the plane.
