I love the way you are not put off by these guys who like modern lenses and just concentrate on what is best
Hi! I've got a Lydith which is only f3.5 (and flimsy) but it takes great images, is this the same with this one? 50mm f2.8 sounds awful bit if it's like the Lydith (light, small, aweseome with pre-aperture) I'm interested. Would you recommend it?
I took a Schneider Kreuznach Reomar 45mm 2.8 out of a partially broken Kodak rangefinder from the early 60's. 3 element pancake design. A little bit glary until f/5.6 but amazing for what it is.
The blues are so rich.
indeedy, glass sucks up blue light first
Hi ken, have you ever use the Nikon P 10.5 cm with 9 blades aperture Sonnar optic design ? Is it good len ?
Ken just received this lenz, how can I used it with my D7100, which adapter
I picked up an old trioplan 100mm f/2.8. I love it, it's so fun and unique.
not cheap
Right. I heard they used to be real cheap until people re-discovered their unique properties and adaptability for modern cameras all over again, I saved enough up for it and found good deal from the czech republic. No regrets. :)
The new ones are very expensive, but it's pretty cool that they've gone back into production.
This lens produces soap bubble bokeh an alternative to the Trioplan 100 2.8 which cost 1500 USD at ebay.
I have read so many horror stories about this lens. Mine seems to perform really well on my Sony A7ii. I am especially impressed by the 3D effect that this simple optical formula provides. Many new optical formulas seem to flatten images. From what I have read about this lens, there has to be a lot of sample variations, or many were taken apart and improperly reassembled with de-centering of the back element.
i have been looking to use m42s on an a7ii. I found this Hanimex 28mm 2.8 and got an m42 adapter for it. I can see through the lens just fine when i hold it up to my eye, but when i mount it to the camera, everything is very blurry. have you ever encountered this?
@@willg125 If you able to focus to infinity, than your adapter should be the right one. As for the blurry pictures, it could very well be the lens itself and it's optical quality. Hanimex was not in it's time the very best quality. Vintage wide angles don't fare as well on full frame digital cameras as other lenses.
I picked this lens up on ebay but now i'm really scared to put it on my D7100. Have you ever tried?
Ken use the Do Not Disturb setting on your phone.... you need your sleep man, especially after all that exposure to radio active lenses...
Aeroplane mode works for me.
Ken would there be an issue on a Nikon with an Exkata mount adapter?
so many adapters out there i dont know which ones will keep the lens from poking inside the camera :/
How about a extension tube (something small)?
I just picked up a Meyer Optik 50mm 1.8 Gorlitz Oreston and a fotodioX adapter. The adapter has a 1.4x element to achieve infinity focus. There is no issue with the mirror hitting. I have not done much shooting with it but I am loving what I am seeing so far!
I am using a Fotodiox Exakta to Nikon adapter. It has a 1.4x element to achieve infinity focus so there is no issue with mirror clearance. The element in the adapter can be removed to use as an extension tube.
Hola, I find this interesting comparative between Leica and Cooke. I can't paste the link but writing in RUclips Cooke v Leica it appears. Congratulations for your videos, I learn a lot.
Bought one for £3 today but seems soft at 2.8 on my fuji aperture after that seems sharp
I like it a lot
He knows more then you do!!! A lot more!!! : D
I order this lens a week ago xD
Three Is A Magic Number... :)
just picked one up, is this it radioactive?
noooooo not this lens
You can also get a Helios 58mm for swirly bokeh for ~25€ instead of the Nikkor 105mm f/1.4 :)
XACTLY RIGHT
problem is there all sold from Russia and NOBODY with a brain wants to order anything from crooked Russia
I bought mine on a second hand store in Prague. Must visit them again to check out those old M42 Zeiss..
Any bargain I should look for? I don't have currently any 35mm for example.
I got this lens last week. I did some tests against CZJ Tessar. Conclusion is...go far away from this lens as far as you can. I mean maybe for some really freaky ppl it can be useful...not for me. Saying not sharp is compliment , BOKEH is crap imho and the build...feels like chinese toy. Tessar is another story thou.
how is it for landscape photos?
too fuzzy for that
thanks. Is there any cheap one on ebay good lenses
Funny as fluck!!!!
The problem is that it cannot get infinity focus with Nikon DSLRs because the distance mount-sensor of Nikon F is larger (46,5mm) than M42 (45.46mm), still need to add the adapter thikness to the 46,5mm. No problem with Canon EOS (44mm).
Here some samples with mine:

You feel me?
Do you FILMY now?
I own one on an exa 500 and am selling it in Britain.
Any love for the CZ Triotar 135mm f4? Cooke triplet
Ken, u r totally wrong, this lens does not pass the Sniff test, or the DoushXO mark test, among other highly refined tests. Your opinion only based on facts and pictures....lol
(just bought one yesterday, u showed it on the live stream....thx)
U jumped the shark on everyone else ;)
The early bird gets the worm.
Leica R lenses, Contax/Yashica Zeiss lenses are relatively cheaper than current Zeiss/Leica offerings. What is your take ?? I know that they are very hard to adapt to Nikon (needs flange change), but very easy on Fuji. Thx for all your efforts.
this lens often gets voted the worst 50 ever ..but if you like the look it produces then its fine ..there are better lenses for nothing money way better...my favourite 50 at the mo is a Fujinon 55 F1,8 M42 mount i pay 9 GBP for with free fuji camera ...i am awaiting the arrival of a Minolta Rokkor55mm F1.8 for 16 GBP delivered
Unglaublich
ahahahahahahaha ! !
Mine costs 10 bucks:)
The build quality of this lens is crap and the sample variation is horrific. You may have to buy 3 or 4 to get a nice copy... BUT! if you're curious about triplets, this is as cheap as it gets.
i said THAT in the video..!!! $20 each, no big deal
Get some sleep, please! You look worn out...
