Is it silly to give cartoon animal characters such deep emotions and powerful, heartfelt moments? Oh, absolutely not! This is exactly the kind of magic that made me fall head over heels for this series, and why I’ll never let go. The emotions are just so raw and beautiful, and the fact that these characters aren’t human? That just makes it even more special! Honestly, I find these colorful cartoon characters so much more memorable and charming. The sheer love and care that’s been poured into every detail is incredible, and anyone who thinks it’s ridiculous because they’re “just” cartoons? They really don’t get it. This is pure art, and I’m here for every single bit of it. Please, let there be more!
Shadow tried to declare that he was moving on at the end of his game, but here he says “that life was *taken* from me long ago.” Abe says it as someone who’s had a long time to process her death, but Shadow… for as much as he says he wishes to move on… it makes sense we’re really exploring his pain now- when you really think about it, from Shadow’s perspective, Maria didn’t die long ago- he was asleep for those 50 years, as far as he’s concerned she was just shot in front of him less than a few years ago. And at the end of Shadow 05 he made the conscious decision to move forward, for himself. But do you know how hard that actually is…? To say goodbye to a life you really truly thought about for a long time? A life that you missed out on due to the actions and decisions of other people? To just *decide* that you won’t let it weigh on you anymore?? Shadow unconsciously dreaming of someone who’s gone from his life, dreaming about everything that hurts him, and dealing with those intrusive thoughts by focusing on whatever thing he’s doing that day… never slowing down because if he does his mind will creep to the places that he’s unable to deal with. Like- I never thought Shadow would be made so much more relatable but showing his struggles with trying to move on with his life in the wake of so much pain just kills me. Because it’s so much more realistic… As I’ve grown up, these characters continue to grow with me. I’ll never stop loving this series.
To add to this it's one thing to move forward but what happens when you're confronted with the past again, as we see in episode one with Black Doom not only back but actively giving Shadow nightmares about her death that are even more horrific than what transpired. I know some people are complaining it's a retcon and regression but I think it's brilliant personally. Assuming they fully stick the landing in the full game that is.

This is a test to see how far Shadow’s grown now that his past is back again and even more hitting home that seemingly because of the Time Eater’s shenanigans both Maria and Gerald will be restored. Will he save them from their fate at the risk altering of the present and future or will he stay the path he’s chosen and have to say goodbye again (possibly getting some ACTUAL closure with them this time) to keep things right? It’s brilliant and I’m excited to see where it goes in the full game.
Yeah, the more i think about it. Maria seems like the "uncle Ben" of Shadow, meaning she did something important to him even after she passes out, and that important thing still carries on in the present. So, Maria, even tho she has little screen time, she is an important character. I liked your reaction about this episode. And like i said before, I think we all love to have a Maria in our lives.

He never had that chance. Since Eggman released him in SA2 bro has been through it and his memories altered, then lost then restored and hasn’t had a chance to slow down. And it’s one thing to move on like he did at the end of his game but when you’re confronted with that past again + not having that time to grieve? It’s a test and I think that’s what they’re going for with this and I’m all in.

I genuinely can’t stop crying whenever I rewatch those clips of Shadow and Maria being together… my brain has been rotted with hedgehog angst, and I couldn’t be happier (ノ﹏ヽ) Also, when Rouge and Abraham Towers were talking about only one person being able to talk Shadow down, I have a feeling Rouge was actually referring to Sonic… or maybe, by the end of SXSG, that scene might be put into a different context if Shadow and Sonic’s relationship develops.

Best guess is he can go so far with just 1 emerald. We never actually see him teleport to the ARK with just one. Closest we get is him teleporting with Rouge in SA1 and he had three emeralds then. I think.

The only time we've ever visibly seen Shadow teleport from Earth to space was in the ShTH05 finale, and that was in his Super form. Meaning you need all 7 to pull that off at the very least.

It's not the same moving horizontally than vertically, because there's this one little thing that's heavily stacked against the user and it's called "gravity", on top of having to break atmosphere. Besides, if one emerald powered Chaos Control COULD allow you to travel to space directly, then why didn't Sonic do it in ShTH05 given he can use Chaos Control himself? Probably because it CAN'T. Chaos Control logistics are pretty wonky depending on which game you're playing and it doesn't help Black Doom can also teleport Shadow around in ShTH05 seemingly without the emeralds...

Agreed. But I do think that SEGA has a heck of an opportunity now with how Sonic's propularity has risen recently, thanks to the Frontiers and the movies. I hope that they captalize more on the more mature aspects of Sonic, like they are doing in these short movies.

Oh yes this will definitely close his Maria chapter. But it won't be the last time he remembers her. Instead of a weight, it'll be calm and soft and grateful for what he used to have.
The Ark will probably be the first level in the game. They might even do a cold opening to the level without any intro cutscene, like in "Sonic Colors".

Because you don’t “move on” from love, you take it with you. It doesn’t have to weigh on you to be something you care about.

You could tell he was trying not to cry due to how his pupils were shaking. He was also probably about to have a panic attack because of how hard he was breathing (speaking from experience).This was an amazing finale, thank you SEGA for making this amazing miniseries!!! Shadow looked like he was close to breaking down there. me thinking either going back to the Ark or being inside of a rocket/pod again is stirring up some emotions. or everything in general has been extra rough lately.
Edit: Also, not useing chaos control to teleport up to the Ark why?🤨
Best guess is he can go so far with just 1 emerald. We never actually see him teleport to the ARK with just one. Closest we get is him teleporting with Rouge in SA1 and he had three emeralds then. I think.
@@EvelynWn Not to mention there's a 4hr window between the escape and that scene at the Ark, but no it's never been established you can teleport from Earth to space with only one emerald.
The only time we've ever visibly seen Shadow teleport from Earth to space was in the ShTH05 finale, and that was in his Super form. Meaning you need all 7 to pull that off at the very least.

@@EvelynWn Yeah, people like to overestimate one emerald powered Chaos Control a bit too much imo. It's not the same moving horizontally than vertically, because there's this one little thing that's heavily stacked against the user and it's called "gravity", on top of having to break atmosphere.
Besides, if one emerald powered Chaos Control COULD allow you to travel to space directly, then why didn't Sonic do it in ShTH05 given he can use Chaos Control himself? Probably because it CAN'T.
Chaos Control logistics are pretty wonky depending on which game you're playing and it doesn't help Black Doom can also teleport Shadow around in ShTH05 seemingly without the emeralds...
They seriously need to make a full blown anime. These are so good. And I need a copy of this song

Agreed. But I do think that SEGA has a heck of an opportunity now with how Sonic's propularity has risen recently, thanks to the Frontiers and the movies. I hope that they captalize more on the more mature aspects of Sonic, like they are doing in these short movies.

Do you think that Shadow generation will be a Shadow the hedgehog 2.0 in the sense that Shadow will mourn the loss of Maria and Gerald at the end of the game?
Oh yes this will definitely close his Maria chapter. But it won't be the last time he remembers her. Instead of a weight, it'll be calm and soft and grateful for what he used to have.
The Ark will probably be the first level in the game. They might even do a cold opening to the level without any intro cutscene, like in "Sonic Colors".
