OK, first of all; Mercede gearboxes always start with 2:nd gear. To get first gear from standing you'll need to floor it and engage the kick-down switch. See that you have a later model W124, maybe -90 to -93? Well, in that case, there is a valve on the left front section outside of the gearbox. That valve should hold the upshift of your gears when engine is cold to get your catalytic converter to start working faster at cold exhaust temperatures as well. I´ll start by checking this valve and your temp. sensor for starters. Regards from Stockholm, Sweden.
Did you fix the issue? Change the transmission filter and fluid. The filter gets clogged and fluid goes bad. Drain the torque converter and transmission pan. Change filter add 5 liters start the transmission shift into each gear for 15 seconds. Top up when car is running and trans is warmed up. Car can be 1L low in 722.3 transmission to operate.
I'm having the same exact problem . Mine starts shifting at 2500-3000 and you have to let off the gas to make it shift. Checked the atf and it's really dirty . Hopefully will change fluid + filter and get it solved I don't have the funds to get a trans replacement
Hi, I'm having similar sluggish reaction when accelerating, foot on the gas and then maybe 3/4 seconds before the car realises and kicks gear to allow the car to pull off, changed fluid etc(pan was spotless) with no difference, going to adjust the modulator clockwise a 1/4 turn see if there is improvement, Also, those trans generally skip 1st gear unless your using the kick down from take off, (I think they even skip 1st in S mode). Theres a trick/hack that someone on youtube had that you can wire differently and fool the gearbox so it will use 1st but I reckon its unnecessary! My 300E24 is still perfectly drivable only lacks power when already in motion, takes off from a standing start like a cheetah, no gear issues. Did you fix your sluggishness???

What is the name of this valve on the left front of the transmission? Do you have a part number? Is it a DIY job?
Watching you from Saudi Arabia and had fun seeing your pretty face angil
