Roy Howard Kind of a trick question. Some of the allure is the preamp. It can blend passive and active. Imagine passive rolloff with active punch behind it. I have a fully passive MTD that can get the same rolloff tone, but not remotely the same attack or headroom. That said, the Frog has a lot going for it. The bridge, quality wood and a thinner finish likely contribute to its sound. Carbon rods in the neck can’t hurt if you spec it that way. Regardless of what you have, I’d get the closest John East preamp you can to the Uni-Pre that’ll fit your bass. Even if you get a Frog, you’ll have two great-sounding instruments.
@@snail415 are you referring to Maruszczyk Frogs overall or this specific one? If you mean this one, do you think it's the woods or the Bassculture pickups?
Roy Howard Great questions. It boils down to a perfect combination of things. The John East preamp and bassculture pickups are probably a lot of it. Research that preamp; the passive tone blend is different than many preamps and the obvious tone flexibility are great in the hands of someone who really understands frequencies in a mix. Out of all their basses, the Frog is the one of the lot that I’d pick. That zero nut and build construction are hard to beat. My only wish is that they did a 34-37” multiscale. I know that’s an odd thing to want, but for even lower tunings it would be a monster. Cheers.
For my own reference comparing both pickups passive, in parallel: Both Pickups Passive, Parallel: 1:44 Neck Pickup Passive, Parallel: 2:16 Bridge Pickup Passive, Parallel: 3:05
I bought this amazing bass. It really is one of the best instrumentsI have ever had. Maruszczyk is where it is at!
Every time he added the passive tone blend, I just shook my head. Perfect tone.
Yep. I still come back again and again. It’s the best-sounding bass on RUclips.
@@snail415 Agree, me too. It`s a monster bass ;)
Do you think this bass sounds better passive rather than active??

Great
I don't know if I ever have heard a better sounding bass. Outstanding woods have all custom basses today, so must be the eletronics. Stellar!!!
Dyshof TV I’ve tried to find a better-sounding bass on RUclips forever. There isn’t one.
