Spent many mornings watching the Captain! RIP!
So many of us did ! Wish there was a box set of these episodes
Thank you for this remembrance of the MOST ingratiating of all TV personalities. Bob's charm and
warmth, came from his ideals of morality and engagement with the interests of children, unlike the
motivation of his competitors, with the exception of Fred Rodgers, with whom he shared so many
values, and why they were not competitors. I still prefer the original image of Captain to the red
coat version. The dark suit and high topped dress boots evoked a different sort of character
altogether. When he smartened up in the red suit, the atmosphere of the program changed. I
am glad he was insistent that management maintain his high standards of production, and
that he championed, and did not simply talk about, children and their futures. It is telling that
this was lost on the network in the cuts he made to the program, and to the impact this good man
had on the lives of so many children. Shame on management!! God bless Bob and those he loved.
There will never be another Captain Kangaroo ! Such a unique show.
Two fond memories of The Captain...
First I remember "moving day", when The Captain moved from The Treasure House into the new Captain's house. Quite exciting!
And secondly, and most fond of all, I remember when Mr. Rogers himself made an appearance on Captain Kangaroo! It was just mind blowing to me! Mr. Rogers ..AND...Captain Kangaroo! Together! It would be like if Superman and Santa Claus had met! :)
Wow ! Those are fantastic memories. The Captain with the blue coat is before my time, so i have no Treasure House memories it’s sad to say. And I really wish i could’ve seen Mister Rogers visit! You’re so right; that would be like Superman meeting Santa ! Thanks for sharing that !
treasure house captain was much more surreal than captain's house captain
After he left "Captain Kangaroo"..Mr.Allegretti went onto appear in the film"Author Author? and "The Circle In The Square"stage production of Rod Serling's"Requiem For A Heavyweight" with George Segel and John Lithgow.
Oh wow. I didn’t know that. He certainly became an accomplished actor. Thanks for sharing this !
You're Welcome..Doc toon.
There is 1 important fact about the Capt. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps, Semper Fi.
@@michaelhoward9246 thank you !
disney kept all the micky mouse club episodes
cbs destroyed most of the captain's episodes
That’s sad, knowing all those great episodes are lost forever. Thanks for sharing the info and commenting!
@@doctoon6393 That's correct. Over 7000 episodes on CBS. Almost all are gone.
@@jasonbeard4713 wow 7000 episodes. That is sad knowing that many are lost.
I think I remember him reading Curious George, too.
I remember that! I remember Curious George and some big steam shovel?
@@doctoon6393 Yes, the steam shovel was in a book about a baby bird trying to find its mom, and it keeps asking everyone and everything "Are you my mommy?" including a steam shove. I remember the Captain reading that book, too.
I see that the book was actually called Are You My Mother? I also remember Captain Kangaroo reading Ping.
I remember that was the first time I had ever heard of Curious George ! such a vivid memory
Thank you for sharing this information. I loved watching Captain Kangaroo.
