  • This is your permission slip to not care what the Bible says when people who see it differently than you toss random and out-of-context Bible verses your way in an effort to prove you wrong.

I also tell people that I don't believe in the bible, so that we don't argue over bible verses when we disagree, but the truth is that I still care about the bible deep down 😅 so instead of tossing it aside I'm trying to interpret it differently. But I still pretend not to believe in the bible at all so that other christians don't try to "teach" me how I'm supposed to interpret it.

Thanks for sharing! Yes, I haven’t tossed it aside - I love it very much and read it daily … I just don’t let it run my life like I used to or let it make my ideas feel less than if someone tosses a verse at me that appears to contradict my perspective on something. I used to either bend my ideas to fit what the Bible appeared to say or bend the Bible to fit my thoughts and ideas and perspectives … nowadays I try to just let the Bible be the Bible and not force it to carry burdens and weights it’s not meant to carry.

@@WhatIfProjectPodcast Yes I totally understand that! As a gay man I did exactly the same, and I sometimes wonder whether I would have done it if I wasn't gay. (But I'm glad I did).
It would be very interesting to make an episode where you explain how different is your faith now that your perspective on the bible has changed! Like the way you see Jesus, your beliefs regarding afterlife, etc. If you want to do an episode like that it would be very interesting to watch :)

@@Max-vp1voonce you see, it’s impossible to not see again - right?? There are so many things I’ve learned that change the way I see so much of what I was taught growing up. And yes - this project is actually a podcast and although a smaller about of videos are on this channel, 280+ episodes are on Spotify, Apple, etc and there are some episodes where it’s just me and no guest and I share about my journey. If you want me to send you specific episodes just let me know! Thanks again for listening and sharing ❤️🙏🏻

It seems like your insistence on setting the parameters of the discussion by setting aside the bible is no different than the Christian's insistence of setting the parameters of the discussion by using the bible.

As I said anyone is welcome to use the Bible in their argument but I don’t think it’s fair to force the other person to bow to it if they don’t view it in the same way especially if the Christian on the other end of the discussion refuses to accept whatever text I bring into it. There’s no way to make any progress in that scenario, the Christian with Bible always “wins” in their mind.
