One of the many, many, many great compositions of Rodgers & Hammerstein as excellently interpreted by Frank Sinatra. From the album "The Concert Sinatra".
The master craftsman sings. Sinatra felt every word. The man sang to your heart.. Nothing else to say. Superb! Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein 2nd, the greatest musical theatre composers, ever !
@@imonthebox1148 im just lucky to have seen the master three times england ireland and my country.... ive met nancy sinatra and met frank sinatra jnr x
All those love songs that he sang after seperation from Ava Gardner are all sung for her and to her. This romance broke his heart and deepened his interpretations of love songs.
Yes I feel the same.....I remember when I was in Korea I met a 2nd louie named Rick. He got a dear John letter and he was so in love with this girl, that letter nearly killed him. Well Rick and I stayed friends until he died in 2007 but once, a long time ago, while we mulled over a bottle of single malt scotch at our yearly company gathering, he stopped our toast of "Auld Lang Syne", and started singing this. Most of the company stopped and came outside to hear him, and we all stood there silently.....silently listening to this man, who despite surviving a horrible war in Korea, was brought to tears and singing about the thing that hurt him the most....Falling utterly and helplessly in love with someone who never fell in love with him. ::sigh:: Rest in Peace Lt. Saunders.
Well written sir ✍👏 it was a dream come true when I finally had the pleasure of seeing frank Sinatra perform live on a stage in Dublin Ireland may 1989 👏
I'm watching the Dick van Dyke Show for the first time, and this is in Season 1 Episode 23 ("The Twizzle"), sung by Jerry Lanning. (The show is way before my time....but the convenience that the Internet affords makes it easy to learn the background information that one has a curiosity about.)
Frank your amazing. This song is almost always sung by an operatically trained voice. Then ol Blue-eyes takes it and makes it his own. What a craftsman that guy was.
I bought this album when it was first released. Still have the LP (and audio cassette). Now I have it on CD. Love the whole album. Thanks for posting this!
Discovered this song watching an old Dick VanDyke show - the "Twizzle" episode - where Jerry Lanning does a killer version of this. Frank, of course, always had his own inimitable style!
Not as intense as the more melodramatic Broadway renditions, which is why some may find it underwhelming. But Sinatra was always cool and he strolls nicely through this. His voice is in good form. It's not an easy song, and it's damned sad too.
Always enjoyed this wonderful interpretation of this American Musical Theater Classic. Awesome collaboration between Sinatra and Riddle. I always did wonder why they didn't include the bridge section in this production, though.
Exquisitely beautiful. Just the right amount of power and emotion from Frank to convey the story of the song. Was this the session recorded on a motion picture sound stage? I also thought that the recording medium was 35 mm film which would have been considered state of the art in 1963.
This song came from the 1963 album arranged and conducted by Nelson Riddle. Very different from Nelson's swing arrangements for Frank. Only eight tracks in the album but each is a gem; supposedly Nelson's favorite album recorded by Frank on his Reprise label.
not a classic song, not a show stopper on broadway, sung by many but Sinatra just has a way to make it his own,,ex;king and i i have dreamed live or on album timeless
Frank does do this song justice, it is a song about lament for one's loss of love. It is supposed to portray Emile's sadness, and you do not do that by belting.
My heart still break's because the man of my dreams still lives. But we are old now and live too far away from each other. This song always reminds me of how much Ou still love him.
Just a short version Sinatra didn't have his heart in this song. Don't get me wrong I'm a big lover of his music and admire his versatility, but this does not do him justice.
I just heard Josh Young's version. Educated voice, very nice, but poor expression. There was no sense of sadness, of loss in his voice, nor did his phrasing (exaggerated) or arrangement (mediocre) show off the pretty melody. The version felt very empty to me. But then, that's the thing about Sinatra at his most serious: He makes everyone else sound childish and silly.
Please, yes, it's Franky but, it's hardly a good rendition of the song. That song needs range, timbre, vibrato, and feeling. None of which Sinatra had. Goulet, Lanning, and Carreras could do it justice. I guess if he added a few scoobies in it, he would have a chance.
What an incredible piece of music by the greatest voice of the 20th century. Thanks for sharing.

@@arthursteven5601 , The "only" comment. We will never see or hear the likes of them again.

@@arthursteven5601, Ive seen Sinatra once way back in London. The man was God....Young people today are growing up listening to garbage.
@@imonthebox1148 sadly i agree ..... i grew up here in glasgow scotland he was always regarded as the greatest singer of all time by people here
Majestic singing on the entire album......no one sang a song like Francis Albert Sinatra
All those love songs that he sang after seperation from Ava Gardner are all sung for her and to her. This romance broke his heart and deepened his interpretations of love songs.
Magnificent!!!!! Rodgers and Hammerstein would have been very proud by how Sinatra interpreted this beautiful song.
This LP has to be in my top 5 favorite from Sinatra. Frank and Nelson in top form...1963.
you could search and search but this is one of the most beautiful songs.
When Sinatra was at his best nobody, but NOBODY could sing like him! Just simply THE BEST! One of his best songs!!!
This is an example of a good collaboration between Rodgers, Hammerstein, Frank Sinatra, Nelson Riddle and the orchestra. Beautifuuuuuuuuuuuuuul.
There are so many great Sinatra songs. I think this is the best of all. If you've ever had someone who nearly was yours, you'll understand.
the greatest song the greatest singer!

Beautifully said .
Sinatra at his peak, Nelson Riddle at his peak = UNSTOPPABLE!
Total agree
Dr. Spectre, Yup!.
Great song, great lyrics, great orchestration and of course Sinatra.....if this isn't musical perfection, then I don't know what is!

Incredible talent. Thanks.
How wonderful the voice and the song composition...sooo romantic..a killer.
Beautiful song, beautiful rendition, miss this good music a lot.
Sublime!
Never thought anyone could move me with this song more than Ezio Pinza. Frank blows me away with this one! GORGEOUS!
Check out Davis Gaines "against the tide" album. He sings this song with a passion that even 10 years later I am willing to listen to and enjoy
La voz de Frank Sinatra era un regalo de Dios a través de esa garganta divina
Perfection at it's best dear darling Frank Sinatra
there may not be a more perfect blend of voice and orchestration in this R&H outstanding composition ....best appreciated on vinyl
Champion singer, Champion song, what more can I say? Indeed, is there anymore to be said?
Perfect song....perfect voice.... perfect orchestration. Nothing else to say.
johnrjohn25 Other than it’s Frank Sinatra, that’s what makes it perfect. I never tire of hearing him sing.
Once nearly was mine!! Beautiful words ...
What else can be said about Frank Sinatra that hasn't been said so many times by so many.He was simply the best. How I miss him !!!!!!!!
SO true!

Superb...... there will never be another Sinatra !
Wow, that is for sure, no one before him ,now, or after him can compare or ever will compare, I don't think. Simply the best.
ToddR4824, Sinatra is God...End of!
Great song, I have loved Francis for many year's.
Stellar!
This composition was meant for The "Master" Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle - Perfect -

Very few come close to the perfection of Sinatra '55-'65
OMG, this is great!!!! One of my very favorite albums....Listen to "I Have Dreamed".
Was he still thinking about Eva when singing this song?

Apparently.
It sounds like he was singing about Ava Gardner.
R.I.P
From What year is this recording?
😍dreamy.
I disagree. I think Sinatra does it justice - played at my father's funeral - so means a lot.

Not a classic song? I think musicians, singers and music historians (and Lindsey Buckingham) would disagree. Klutz, you don't know shit about music.
Unsurpassed.
Bertrand Russell said the most fatal of hesitancy is that in field of love
no one else
Frank does do this song justice, it is a song about lament for one's loss of love. It is supposed to portray Emile's sadness, and you do not do that by belting.
Spine tingling at 1.00
Too bloody slow Frank, you’ve murdered it.
I know the feeling and am too old to find the man that I loved
I know how you feel 😞
Just enjoy Frank's voice!
My heart still break's because the man of my dreams still lives. But we are old now and live too far away from each other. This song always reminds me of how much Ou still love him.
Came here for Richard Rogers
Too bad they left out the middle section of the song.
This is the best version of a non-opera Singer. Eddie Fisher’s version is terrible.

Peter Gerstenzang ???¿¿¿?????
Frank nailed it!

I am such an ass
Hmm. Not a good song. I mean, he makes the most of it, but the melody is kinda flat. And such good lyrics. Oh well.
Dreary beyond belief. This one proves sinatra has his limitations and can't sing everything well. 😮
