It amazes me how the VERY BASIC functionality of any BT audio unit like this can be left out. Also, the damn INPUT button needs to be a long-press button. I have already on many occasions barely bumped that button when picking it up and it switches to AUX input and I have to then cycle through 5 more inputs to get back to BT and wait for it to pair. Very frustrating. It seems that both of these issues could be resolved with a firmware update, but it would be my guess that it won't happen.

Just got my XD05 Bal today. Can confirm that Bluetooth button presses control the following: 1 press=play/pause, 2 presses=next-track, 3 presses=last-track :)

Delighted I went for the XD-05 Plus a few weeks ago (the Bal was about 130EUR more, so not twice as much but still a good chuck of cash more). Loving it with my Sundara. Nope, the filter settings don't seem to do anything, but it does everything else.

AES cable is used to hook this DAC with XDUOO X10T II, which is some kind of digital transport, I suppose.

Zeos, the device has actually a bluetooth play and pause button. The instructions says that u have to press the bluetooth button(short press) to play/pause.
it also works with doublepress for next track and triplepress for previous track. But for hassle-free control with eyes closed I still recommend to connect phone via USB and use phone's bluetooth to connect remote control with physical buttons 😉
Based simply on the changes to the volume knob, and no significant boost in output from balanced, I'm sticking with my xduoo xd-05 plus. Maybe you don't need more than a watt but it'd be nice to have. Even 1.3 watts would keep me on the fence about buying it.

Seems like a neat little desktop amp that is not portable like a DAP, but only, essentially, realistically, "portable" in the sense that you can take it into your bedroom and use it with your phone ...

I’m super jealous of your basement. Never noticed just how massive it was until you tested the BT range but holy shit I’m jealous.
I just got this, and BT controls work as expected, both with an iPhone and a Pixel 5.
Single BT button press => Play/Pause. Double BT button press => next track. Triple BT button press => previous track (rewind).
but how is the range for you?

AES is an older audio thing that is in modern times secluded to old digital tech and PA/mixing desks and professional audio interfaces. This is where it's most commonly found at least.
Zeos we need a review of the Ceblnrrance M8 V2 and do some comparations while you at it.

I was wondering if this unit would be worth it but the loss of the bass switch is heartbreaking as it's always on on my XD-05 Plus. The external power is genius though, as I basically use mine as a dedicated amp/dac for my computer. Oh well, maybe next time xDuoo, looks like I'll be upgrading my opamp for the time being.
They have a mini XLR player with I2S to work with it. Wonder if It would work with usb C I2S from Cayin N6mkII....and where do U get the cable from...

I've never used the play/pause or volume controls built into my Bluetooth DACs, always have my phone around for the controls.
They have added track control to the unit now and Bluetooth range seems to have been improved
Like the ifi Gryphone as well but nearly double the price for xbass and presence, much as I love those hmmm
LDAC is good enough and so is the XD-05. If you won't say it I will lol. This is not worth almost double the cost. Looks better tho

my BTR5 is closer to XD-05. but i feel, it still behind XD-05 (its been awhile since i listen to it though).
I hope Xduoo able to miniaturize XD-05 to more pocket-able form without losing any quality, add little led screen like BTR5 and it'll be golden

Context: I’m torn between this XD-05 Balanced and the XP-2 Pro. I want a device that allows for Bluetooth connection with my phone or possible future music player of choice and allows me to try out different headphones at home and on the go. I already have a FiiO BTR5, but I’m looking for something more powerful.

Well seems better to control things from the BT "transmitting" device anyway imho. AND I don't even plan to use BT on it. I use wire when at all possible. Bezos has a 10% discount on it making it a little over $380. Ordered!! lol Thanks Z! You're kinda like if Eddie Murphy did audio gear reviews.

Just yesterday I watched the xd05 basic video, these things look awesome but I can't get their bluetooth adapter in my country at all... so I'd rather buy a fiio q3 instead from a store within my country

The Bluetooth button acts as the play/pause button. But no forward or back track still.
Yep, I can't believe they overlooked such a basic functionality of ANY bluetooth audio device. And if you barely bump the INPUT button, then it goes to AUX and you have to then cycle through all the inputs back to BT and wait for it to reconnect. The INPUT button needs to be a long-press button, and the BT button needs to add double-tap and triple-tap functionality. I would imagine this could all be done with a firmware update, but guess what… It won't likely happen. I'm so disappointed in this unit. It sounds great, but has just come up short!

on a Desk, i set to near maximum 75%-%80 and control volume with many choices, closer and quicker to me. im not sure if best way, but it works.
I have and absolutely love the Xd-05 Plus doing all of my solid state desktop and portable dac/amp work. I didn't know you had changed out the Opamps in yours, did you notice a big/discernable difference in doing so? And if so, which would you recommend?
I think it made it SMOOTHER? It isn't like you can A/B to know but I felt the change did some good. So yes I would recommend.

I know people around the internet were talking shit about a particular RUclips reviewer hyping the shit out of the GL2000, but frankly they deserve the hype. Well done Zeos. These headphones are great. I have no idea how anyone could say otherwise. I’m starting to think they have a unit variation problem, the ones I received from Drop deserve the hype. Comparing these to Sundaras is a joke, these are next level and well worth the money.

@@ZReviews and I’m not some newbie with a small headphone collection. I may not have a wall of headphones like you but I do possess some heavy hitters like the LCD-X, Mr speakers Ether c-flows, he-6SE, and I have to say they might be better at some frequencies but the GL2000 is a great all around headphone and is well worth its money. I highly recommend them to anyone who can only afford one headphone.

Xp-2 pro exist so this model kinda confuses me slightly its like my Xp-2 pro decided it needed a screen and to be 10% larger and 60% more expensive 😂 I also happened to translate the Chinese manual they expect us to control the things with a voice assistant.....Ill take a button, at least my Xp-2 pro has the play pause.

U already did a face reveal. One of your older vids you were reviewing a DAP and had your face reflecting off the screen for a while.
Wtf, no increase in power? What’s the point then. A missed opportunity. The volume knob is a downgrade, too, it was perfect before. I get why it had to change (there’s only so much you can fit onto the front plate area and keep the form factor...), but it is what it is, and it’s worse. Not to mention that wonky volume +/- orientation which is messed up.

Aside from built-in Bluetooth, they've gone backwards in my opinion. I have it and I much prefer my Q5s TC over this unit (minus the lack of power for certain headphones).
can you give more details about going backward? i have the xd-05 plus and im kinda sorry for not waiting lil bit and buy it because the bypass battery power function, built in bluetooth, volume knob etc...?!

Not the same league. But still an improvement over old.
A few points after living with mine for a few weeks, first with my iPhone I’m not having the same Bluetooth issues, and I’m full of of replacement parts. I did do an op amp change to a pair of Burson 5Vis . You can pause the unit by touching the Bluetooth button.
Have you seen the iFi xDSD Gryphon?

1 watt is plenty. Even compared to other offerings at the price point (Q5s) it's a lot more powerful. Also, the balanced version runs at double the voltage of the plus which is a noticeable improvement. Great review otherwise.

Yes...I was wondering the same. Debating this or Fiio Q5s THX AAA. And would the Frankenstein out Monolith THX still comparable.
I have both, and the Q5s sounds a bit warmer (only a tad). Similar soundstage and imaging, but the Q5s is quite a bit less power. I have also found that on the Q5s if you turn on BASS BOOST that you lose any increase in volume from the 2 o'clock to 4 o'clock positions. So for my Sundara's, for example, I feel they need a tad bit of boost on certain songs, but then the Q5s can barely drive them properly. I was hoping the XD05 BAL would be the end game, but it is not. The lack of FORWARD/BACK functionality for song tracks boggles my mind. The fragile switches on the front boggles my mind. The terrible volume knob boggles my mind. It was so close, but I'll be returning it and just dealing with the Q5s for now. I'll enjoy my Sundara's plugged to a desktop unit one day instead.

@@GuavaJuiceBane The Q5s unit that I have is the Type-C version with the THX AAA module, and I love it. I wish it had more power, but it's really great otherwise. IEM's would sing on the Q5s THX version for sure. Pretty much everything about the Q5s is better in my opinion, outside of the power issue (which is only a problem for harder to drive headphones).
So FiiO Q5s is or is not still top dog?

Uncomfortable with two USB inputs being close on the back when one is for charging, Put the power it in the wrong opening and you damage the unit? Why not out it on the side?
You won't damage it if you plug it in wrong. Both accept USB power but one does data
Would suggest to use a fixed camera. Very difficult to watch when the camera keep moving around.

Again, really wish it had a charge data combined port. Like to just have my phone charge the device as I use it so I never need to worry about charging it. I know people always complain about it sapping their phone battery, but it's not any different than normal. If you were still gonna charge the amp well it doesn't make any difference to make it take from your phone.

The 2 USB's for very different purposes, so close is worthy of r/dangerousdesigns.

This review is slmost dead on. This is such a frustrating unit but I'm still keeping mine.
XDuoo was so close to getting this right but my major complaints are the stupid "boost" button and filters, BT range and volume barrel.
First of all, WTF is this "boost" button? I can't hear anything going on outside of a faint clicking sound. And the filters? NOTHING! OK, filter 4 and 7 seem to do something but it's barely audible. This is a waste of space xDuoo!
BT Range is garbage. I don't have the across the body disconnects Zeos has but I can't leave the room. Garbage range but sufficient for what I use it for.
The volume barrel knob was easily my least favorite feature at first. I have pretty big hands and this is basically a palm size unit for me and my thumbs are much wider than the unit. It felt like operating a dip switch to up the volume. I've developed a few techniques to get past it but overall it's something I can live with. xDuoo, if you're listening... CHAMFER THE FUCKING EDGES! It's baffling this was approved by anybody but it doesn't seem to be an issue for my friend who has much smaller hands.
Overall? I'm happy with it. I switched to the included opamp. That seemed to warm the sound a bit and played well with my Anandas. My Atticus stayed about the same from an enjoyment level but I didn't like it as much on the cascades. Received my Burson v5i yesterday and YES! Major win, more musical and natural... but now it's a $500+ unit. I'm happy with it but it's not something I can easily recommend like the ifi Zen Can or the xDuoo Basic.
What would I recommend for xDuoo moving forward? Make the volume knob more comfortable (it's not as difficult as Zeos makes it out to be tbf), improve the bluetooth, change the "boost" to "bass boost", get rid of the filters and change the AES to 4.4 line in/out. Maybe design a small desktop docking station?
I’ve got mine and I’m happy with it, despite the same flaws that zeos states. The only reason I stopped using my plus was the lack of balanced. With all my other balanced amp, it felt like a step back.
Plus the Bluetooth button on the side is the play pause button, at least on the iPhone.
In the previous XD-05 Plus the boost button is supposed to be used for high impedance headphones. Excerpt from the manual:

Increased thrust, adapt to different impedance headphones.
Also, MUSES02 Op-Amp its another to keep in mind, I liked it better than the v5i.
@@MrPinneyphysics I'm overall happy with mine too, it's just a more difficult device to recommend. I also run balanced on all my cans and that's more important to me than the few noticeable flaws in the system. It also sounds fantastic and that's the most important thing anyway.

Now I'm pondering is is worth it (I have a pair of V5i on hand) or wait for an revision...wich will or will not come...

my Dream is to have an XD-05 BAL without a dog shit Volume knob, I don't care how good it sounds if its a hassle to use on a daily basis I'm not gonna even bother. Such a disappointment as I was so looking forward to this unit.
