If you don't mind sharing, I'm planning to move to Thailand in January but aim to get a job for march. So won't have the work permit visa from the start. Was wondering what visa you are currently on? Thank you keep up the great videos

Solid advice as always. Hunting for a bank branch that will open an account can take hours of frustration. I used a Visa agent and had it done in less than an hour and that included travel time to bank and back. To me, that was worth the service fee.

if you visit thailand more than a month each year,
it's a no brainer to get a thai bank account.
not only eliminates the 220 baht (and rising) atm fee.
it also lets you pay bills, rent, restaurants, etc EZ.

If you can get a Thai Bank account i would recommend getting one if you frequent the country often or planning on living here. It's an alternative income hub if you lose your cards or need more money and your daily limit has expired and you need more funds. I have an account with Bangkok Bank as they tend to be more user friendly for foreigners.

If you're just traveling for under a year, the best option is to get a Charles Schwab account and you don't get the ATM fees. Obviously the options he mentions are better for longer term stays.

I kinda get a mis information before I dropped in to TH that not all / everybody accepts online transection. But I found this terribly wrong. Even the coconut seller / any street vender accept QR scan code for mobile banking.

For us on Retirement Visa and have our own $$ (800k Baht) for the Visa, yes we need an account. I like cash, but I also like the Thai Bank QR Scan for bigger purchases like a Motorcycle.

Nice video, lots of good information for somebody interested in setting up a Thai bank account. I was recently in Pattaya and many of the customers at my favorite donair street vendor paid by airming their phones at the large QR code poster they had. At 6:08 in you mention that it is better to rent a condo from a private owner if you want to save money - can you explain why that is so? Many thanks.

Renting from a private owner can help you avoid some realtor fees that sometimes get rolled into the over rent payments. I recommend checking out some of the rental groups on Facebook, that's what I do!
