This is awesome! I have been wanting something that could do this for literally over thirty years. The only other example of just this effect that I know of was the animbrush capabilities on the Amiga. Unfortunately, even though it is easy to emulate an Amiga, those programs have small maximum image sizes.
💥💥2:39 You need to give the Rendering size more memory in Preferences. Also more threads. I basically quadrupled mine and it's fine. Inkscape comes in pretty low.💥💥
Love the channel, thank you so much for putting all this knowledge out here for us to consume! You may have gone over this before, and it's pretty basic, but my window layout is different than yours. Would you want to do a video on basic window/interface layout?
Another informative video - thanks! I suppose one could shrink the rectangle before filling with leaf clones, then enlarge it to avoid leaves on border.
You could also duplicate the rectangle or make one of the same size and use it as a reverse mask or a clipping path, so that the entire area is filled with no overlap, but also no empty space around the edges. It would cut any overlapping leaves, and look like it was cut from a larger print. Inkscape is wicked cool!
Hello, Nick, do you use the "Unclump" feature to spread the clones evenly? From the Inkscape menu: Open Align and Distribute > Rearrange > Unclump. (Don't forget to delete the square/rectangle in the background before unclumping the clone images). BTW: before saving the image I unlink the clones and delete the image that was used as the base for the pattern: Edit > Clone > Unlink Clone. Nick you are our hero!
I haven’t tried this yet, but if we delete the original object, the pattern will be deleted? Should we do any extra step to remove the link between the object & cloned result. And also to avoid scaling/rotation the cloned result when we scale/rotate the original object. Thanks Nick
You would need to explain in more detail what you mean by "a line between" which insinuates a separator, and then "to connect them" which contradicts it: it's an either or thing. Do you mean lines connecting each one to the next like a garland, then just draw a line any which way you want, and spray the leaves along it. For what purpose, and what do you expect it to be good for? There are ways to draw lines, and distribute objects along them in all kinds of ways already. I also don't see how the lines won't ruin the fact that they are separate leaves being the whole point of what the tool is for, rather than having to paste and edit each one individually. One more thing: If you have ever connected any two objects in Inksape, then you will find they both take on the characteristics of the first one selected, so the color, opacity and more, and in this case would just ruin the whole thing.
I install inkscape 2 days ago. Version 1.3...I make a circle and just cannot fill it with any color. i am trying all day and i just can't figure out. thx.
I don't know, but the tweak tool does. So after spraying you could select all clones and unlink them I guess, and then give it a pass with the tweak tool.
I like inkscape a lot but it is really buggy and slow. I just spent all day today trying to save png's of an img and it kept not looking like the way it was rendered in inkscape like it normally does, plus it leaks and I get artifacts on my screen when the program is minimized. Seems like the version I had on my old computer was better than the newer version...might have to ditch the program at this rate idk what the developers are doing but it isn't making it better.
What a wonderful dramatic crash! 🙂
Awesome tutorial as always. I needed this. THANKS!!!
Your tutorials are so informative ! Thank you for doing them and sharing your knowledge with us.
Have a wonderful day.
Thank you so much. And thank you for all the work you put into your tutorials and videos 👏🏻 very much appreciated.
Again you rock. nice tips.
Great Nick, I used the stars.

I know some people who could use an "Unclump" tool when cooking gravy!!😜
thanks buddy !! Good information, can you do a video teaching about Negative and Positive logo, or you have one ?

How can one gift your Masterclass ?
Is there a way to have the software automatically put a line between each of the clones so they are all connected?

NICK!! Inkscape won't let me ungroup letters anymore, I did object to path and then tried to ungroup and my text remains grouped
They changed the functionality of this. Now you use Path > Split Path instead of Ungroup

maybe i have something locked or idk.
have you made it?@@Macnee93
Thanks!
Is there a setting to vary hue, saturation and value while spraying similar to size, rotation and so on?

@@sanguchito7381 Ah thanks, will give it a try.
