I think the part starting with "Oh it's not that bad..." is something his parents used to say. I would paraphrase it as: "Look, some parents even kill their children, be thankful that we only beat you from time to time." There's a lot of contrast in the memories he describes. Sometimes he got hot chocolate, sometimes bruises and scratches (from his parents, I suppose). Some people in Poland are very religious but at the same time they don't see that being violent to their children is contrary to what Jesus taught. The part about being smart but not questioning things is about parents' expectation that their child will have good grades and will be perfectly obedient (even to the point of losing themselves and giving up their needs, dreams etc.). In Polish there's a saying "cierpienie uszlachetnia" (suffering enriches people) and some parents even use it as an excuse to beat children. The end of the song (about the rose) seems to say: look, this suffering didn't make me better or stronger. I'm from a religious Polish family too and that's how I interpret the lyrics. You can see it differently, of course. And the thing with Jann's songs is that you understand them differently after the first listening and after a few more 😊
He was growing up in very Christian, religious home with 7 sublings. He said that sometimes trauma mixt with nostalgia as it was all with love, care about children relations betwin them... He seems to trying find his own way.
Presumably, just presumably, Jann must have had not easiest childhood. Maybe, just maybe, his upbringing in a family home had strict, "steel" rules - nothing to do with parental love and attention, cuz some parents express their love and attention by being strict. We don't know, but these lyrics are somewhat suggestive and make you wonder.

Right. I think this song has something to do with his childhood. That's why it's entitled Nostalgia. 😥
Definitely they were (are) very religious, they are catholics.
@@princeblworldhe said that nostalgia and trauma have a lot in common, they are two sides of remembering the past.
@@princeblworldhe was a carholic but now who knows. He seems to be questioning his religious upbringing (Met the God) in many ways.
He seems to be cynical about "being grateful" to God
