I feel for you with regard to smoking.😢 I am asthmatic and smoke throws me into attacks. We were at Secrets Akumal seven times no issues. Secrets Cap Cana about four years ago and didn't have smoking issues. We were thinking of returning later this year but the smoking is a huge concern. I may, have to rethink the destination.😢 Even if I wear a mask it still permeates through. Happy traveling.

I just love your videos. The day by day experience is the best. I have two trips booked to Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya in 2023. I'm all about adults only all-inclusive and such an amazing deal.
Do you think you'd have almost as good a time with NOT doing preferred club? Trying to decide on standard vs. preferred. How are the beach chairs for the standard guests?
It’s 100% worth it if your budget allows, as this resort has a lot of PC perks. I waited until I could afford PC before going. That said, you will still enjoy yourself without it if it’s not in the cards 🙂
I've just come back from this resort for 12 nights and agree with everything stated here, the service is out of this world. We didn't stay in preferred and honestly didn't feel we were missing out, so if you are strapped for cash, don't feel you are losing loads of stuff. Smoking wise - in our 12 nights we only spotted 2 people smoking near the pool on two occasions, in one occasion this was dealt with extremely swiftly. Maybe they took notice of your review! I would definitely go back without hesitation, already looking for next year. We are debating trying somewhere new but loved this place so much! Anywhere you would recommend that is similar?

We are planning our trip to Punta Cana with my husband and we´ll probably chose this resort. Our only doubt is wether it may be a bit boring, since it´s an only adults resort maybe it lacks daily activities ... we enjoy having music and maybe taking a salsa class or two... what would you say about this?
Agree! Resort was amazing! Mine and my husband's favorite resort. Also, I didn't like like the smoking either, but DR is known for their cigars and lots of people look forward to buying them when they visit, so I think the resorts are careful not to discourage smoking too much, since it's a money maker for the resorts and locals there. I spoke to some avid cigar smokers and they come to the Punta Cana over Cancun mostly because of the cigar smoking and get offended when resort staff tell them not to smoke. It's hard to please everyone. 🤷🏼♀️

Not an answer you’ll like, but I liked them both for different reasons. Cap Cana had better service, Akumal had more entertainment. I loved the grounds more at Akumal, but liked the pool at Cap Cana. Beaches were similar, except Akumals is much busier. Cap Cana has better Preferred Club perks. I try to not compare resorts too much, because then it’s easy to trick yourself into not enjoying where you are.

Cap Cana looks great but already booked at Ocean Blue and Sand Punta Cana for first 2 weeks of March. Have you any insights or posts on that all inclusive?....Enjoy all your posts, favorite lunch time show!
You get much more of a European crowd in the DR as compared to Mexico so your going to get lots of smokers and the resort caters to that for sure. Europeans smoke WAY more than Canadians and Americans and they don’t have such strict rules against smoking in Europe so I’m sure the resorts are much more lax and don’t want to discourage anybody with a fat wallet from visiting.

I agree with you about SCC. You might’ve picked up on it by now, but we do a ton of all inclusives as well. Many of the resorts in the DR - even Excellence properties in the DR - are super lax about the smoking policy. Therefore, that didn’t surprise us at SCC. I also agree with you about the entertainment. I always tell people this is our second fave Secrets, but understand that it’s “sleepy” entertainment wise going in. However, with all that being said it’s still our second fave Secrets property mainly bc of the beach experience. Btw if you liked SCC I’d def encourage you to try Excellence Punta Cana. We actually like it better than SCC.
Exactly. Entertainment doesn’t factor high into my rating because I’m perfectly happy to go to bed early! I didn’t encounter so much smoking at the previous DR resorts I’ve been to- ugh, it was awful!

They don’t care. Even the Dreams Onyx that’s connected to Breathless is the same. They still have smoking lounges in the PC airport. I just think it’s more widely accepted in DR. I’m glad y’all had fun though it’s a great resort.

All of the great food there and you guys pick the cheeseburgers? I've been to SCC twice (going back again in the summer) and never had a problem with people smoking. I can't stand being around smokers either and never saw anyone smoking outside the designated areas.

I bet! Our flights are pretty expensive, compared to those who live in Florida or Texas, but I just love 5 night stays! My airport no longer offers a nonstop to Cancun, so that sucks. I don’t like to be gone from home long. I’m always ready to vacation, but longer than a week of tough for me. Perhaps when my son is an adult and not counting on me, I’ll feel differently 🙂

I believe the water sports hut had some snorkel masks. But if you’re looking to actually snorkel, an excursion is best.

Food is so subjective, but I still think Atelier has the best food.

I appreciate it! The Ocean brand isn’t as upscale as Secrets. I’ve only been to one Ocean resort, and it was fine for the low price I paid.

You may be correct! I don’t frequent the DR as much as Mexico, but it was definitely worse than the other DR resorts I’ve been to.
